@@AJRoberts i took a lot of notes! I'm the same as far as "unlock your hips unlock your total." What exaclty did you do? And yes super frusterating about the modern raw culture and how hard it is to find a freaking training parnter!! I literally cant find one or a crew that isnt 1-2 hours from me... Im in the bay area

These recent table discussions, especially those from the WSBB guys, have been on another level in terms of both the guests contributions and Dave's own learning/understanding while being thoroughly entertaining.

As a famous weightlifter, AJ has seen a lot of bright spots in him. We must believe in our dreams and don't give up even if we stumble and stumble.

I just had that AJ Robert’s talking to the young buck moment today and remembered being on the other side. That has become my motivation. To be good enough on the platform to lend credence to my guidance and mentoring.

He blew me away. Not from his powerlifting experience per se, but rather his discussion on how noise, both external and internal can affect you. That in itself was a profound segment. I'm convinced that most people who struggle day to day, myself included, are bombarded with noise and as a result lose focus on what is most important in life. Those who succumb to the noise, myself included end up becoming addicted to something just to numb the pain. I can understand why we do it - the addictions help quiet the noise but only temporarily and then the noise returns. I'm reminded of a passage in the movie the last samurai where Tom Cruise, when he couldn't overcome his opponent, was told that he had to many minds. Ponder that. The lesson being, learn to purge all your noise in order to achieve a calm and focused mind when working through adversity. I could be wrong but that's what I believe AJ was trying to convey. Truly purging ones noise sans addictions is easier said than done. Great interview Dave and Semper Fi,

This is a great way to live. There was a ted talk a while back that discussed how mono tasking is a lot more efficient than trying to multi task 5 different things all at once. You give yourself the time to do one specific task and give all your attention to it then move into the next. I myself struggle with the is but trying and trying helps me stay focused. Great thoughts Ken

I salute to this guy for moving from his home country to the united states to start a new life. I learned from this that you can be one strongest men in the world but your mental health is still important at the end of day. That 1000lb squat will always go down in history.

I trained alone from 2006-2018. I was at a gym in the city and spotted the only woman I had ever seen in my life that I thought could outwork me. She was training at Main Street barbell in Toledo Ohio.. I was also looking to get stronger and everyone I knew said to go there. I competed at the Arnold classic in women's Physique in 2018 took third place and 28 Days later was doing the first meet Main Street ever held. . for a year I never missed a weekend lift I joined the crew and it took me 2 years to catch up and another year to be a great training partner. It's been over 4 years now and that's the only gym family I have ever known, and that girl became the only training partner I've truly ever had ❤️ I've been studying conjugate since 2013, got certified in 19. She was the only one at that gym running conjugate and I was like holy s*** that's what I do too! If it weren't for that gym and those people, I wouldn't have a lot of things that I have or look the way I do today. And now they can say that one of their own is headed to the Olympia in December, as a female bodybuilder in the third year of its return to the biggest global bb stage. 🤝🔥🤝 Edit: I won 2nd place! I'm officially the 2nd best FBB on earth! And an automatic qual to the Olympia 2023. Team was thrilled for me. It felt so good to bring it home for US. Bc When I do well, we all do well. When I or any other teammate does well, it pours back into the strength of the gym. Can't wait to see what this year has in store for me 😈

Just from an aesthetics perspective, I do think raw lifting is cooler. It's (supposed to be) the epitome of performance in the lifts that the average guy in the gym probably does. So it's relatable.
Equipped lifting, no matter what flavour, to me is more brutally impressive. Seeing some gigantic mastodon of a man hold over a grand in his hands, lower it to his chest and press it back, all the while in the back of his mind knowing that if the shirt fails he's badly, badly fucked, might even die. The level of testicular fortitude it must take is scary.

You've officially "Hit the nail on the head" when it comes to the problem with "modern" education - it's Kindergarten and not College in so many degree fields! People working "In the trenches" without degrees often have such a deeper level of knowledge than those with the fancy degrees or as one of my professors (a retired General) "Your education begins when you graduate!"... Not sure who the lifter was but it's been useful in many ways "The smart person knows - get them talking then STFU and listen!"...
