Good question. The regulatory arm in Europe is much stronger then the government in the US. In Europe they only allow EVs to be sold with CCS . The US does not dictate this. Hence at the beginning of EVs there was multiple connectors in US. There are pros and cons to this in my opinion. Regulatory laws make things more compatible which is good. However it sometime stifles innovation. Yes the US had to deal with a mix of connectors but now I believe the better one has won out in the US. The Tesla connector is much less bulky than CCS while at the same time providing both AC slow charging and DC Fast charging.
Why is it that all EU cars have CCS and except the older models. And in the US all cars seem to have other connectors?
