As Grisly as this is, it makes sense there would be somebody in the car.
There is no way with the fire being that large that somebody would be walking away from this unscathed, not even considering what happened with the car crash.

Maybe it was intentional but maybe not. Since the body has likely been completely incinerated, there is little to no chance of an autopsy determining whether there was a heart attack, stroke, or some other medical emergency, or even if it was self-inflicted on purpose. I still am inclined to believe that the driver had a medical emergency which, at first, caused her to lose control, going through the fence, slowing the car down some then, as she lost consciousness and/or passed away, the weight of her body slumped down & forward onto her right leg enough to cause the car to accelerate straight for the valve, unfortunately. The explosive force blasted the car up, set it ablaze, and the driver, if not already dead before impact, lost her life to the flames. That's my personal theory.

They know already who the driver was I'm certain of it. Think about it: they had good eye witness accounts of the accident and what the driver looked like and the vehicle description as well. And somebody's elderly relative that owns that exact vehicle didn't make it home the other day.... couple that with how quickly an act of terrorism was ruled out, and I'd say authorities have known since day 1 who the driver was. Whether a health emergency occurred or the driver was just not fit to drive anymore, is something they will never know for certain as I agree any remains would be along the lines of cremation quality. Steel was melting near that fire, houses a ways away were smoking even... that thing was a giant blow-torch that went on for over 48 hours and that car and driver were at ground-zero! 😞(oh, plus Walmart parking lots have a LOT of camera's usually, so I'm betting there is MUCH clearer video of the car driving thru that Walmart parking lot and the license plate was likely on video as such.)

I suspect authorities already know who the driver was... they had a good description of the vehicle before it hit the valve, and a partial description of the driver (an elderly woman with glasses on, I believe eye witnesses to the event have said). That woman, didn't make it home the other evening... I'm sure her relatives were quick to contact law enforcement, hence why a terrorist attack was ruled-out so very quickly in this incident. I am slightly concerned though that terrorist around the world now see just how vulnerable these gas pipeline valves in the US are, and that can't be a good thing! Just saying. 😕

Motive is my question. Once the driver is identified we should know a little more. Was it a disgruntled Transfer employee or an 80 year old retired librarian? My gut tells me this wasn't intentional because the public didn't know what the pipeline was carrying. The surveillance video of the collision showed that the car was not attempting to slow down when it struck the valve. It looked as if it was accelerating on the uneven ground.

Looks like a classic case of an elderly driver standing on the accelerator pedal trying to stop their vehicle in utter confusion... we really need to be more aggressive in taking the keys from drivers who are no longer safe to drive due to age or other health issues. Just because you can still drive, does not mean that you should still drive! It is very difficult to take the keys from your elderly relative who you are afraid to even ride with because their driving has deteriorated so badly they scare you... just saying. 😞

This happened once in a church parking lot across the street from my best friend's apartment. My girlfriend and I were just leaving going down the steps and the church was right in front of us. An elderly woman got into a large Plymouth four door sedan in the parking lot, stomped on the gas, and disappeared behind the back of the church when we heard the crash. We ran across the street, saw the accident, and my girlfriend ran back to my friends apartment to call EMS. With very little room to accelerate the car hit a concrete parking stop and jumped it, it then broke a small chain link fence to prevent pedestrians from falling into the basement level rear exit walkway. It completely cleared a double door walkway into the basement entrance of the church, impacted one of the doors and removed it from the hinges, and struck a woman in the head killing her instantly as it flew over. The car stopped in the grass 30 feet from the jump, and the woman driving did not have a scratch on her.... But she was very, very confused and was completely unsure what had just happened. I was one of the first people on the scene and would have seen all of it but I was looking at the front of the church and the car drove past the rear exit. But my girlfriend and I both looked up and saw the car speeding across the parking lot before it vanished behind the church... The whump bang!!

They should, but doesn't mean they will. Real terrorist want to do more than just cremate themselves and inconvenience a neighborhood in the process. In short, if the pipeline had exploded like a big bomb going off blowing homes and businesses away killing and wounding A LOT of people, then terrorists around the world would have taken notice of how easy this was to do! But the only person that died was the driver, and though structures were damaged (and possibly some are a complete loss), there was no huge amount of destruction that resulted. Hence, it would seem unlikely that anybody would ram a gas pipeline valve intentionally, and the odds of an accident like this occurring again are extremely slim. So they probably won't do anything new to protect such above ground valves, IMHO. 😕

    • @AlohaChips

Anything carrying fuel could explode or catch on fire if the containment is breached and the leak gets exposed to an ignition source. Metal scraping on metal (eg car body on metal pipe) causes sparks, and if that wasn't enough, regular vehicles have combustion engines--ie it's a bunch of constant, controlled fuel explosions being set off by spark plugs that's making most cars run. It would have been a reasonable guess on anyone's part that damage to pipeline like this could cause a big explosion and/or fire. (There's more reasons besides the expense and annoyance of breaking a water main or cutting telephone/cable lines that you're supposed to call to have pipelines and utilities marked before you dig!)
It seems like only a chain link fence was around the place. This isn't much of a match for a whole SUV going 70+ mph. So yes, easy, as long as you don't care about damage to the car from the impact.

As I understand it, and from the video I watched, the pipeline was carrying liquid natural gas. When the pipe ruptured, the line pressure dropped and the gas in the line started to boil with a mix of liquid and vapor escaping from the break. Even though the pipeline company shut off the valves on either side of the break, there is likely quite a few miles of pipeline on either side of the break, and all of the gas contained in the line will have to boil off to vapor and exit through the broken valve. This will take quite a while to happen since the boiling gas will take heat from the ground, chilling the earth and slowing the boiling process.

    • @HM2SGT
      @HM2SGT 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

Even with the proximal and distal valves closed, the size of the pipeline in diameter and length combined with the pressure it carried meant there was a significant volume of liquified natural gas in the remaining section. Liquid is denser than vapor and Vapor is what burns, so what we saw was the expansion as it vaporized. The physics are interesting but the reality of what happened is tragic end the tracks from the enjoyment of the science. 😕

Why are human beings who want to live in America and enjoy an improved lifestyle and economic opportunity your mortal enemies who want to kill you?

@@rtqii That's funny. The latest report from KHOU is that police consider this to be a criminal investigation. Are you saying that police have figured out that the driver was a little old lady who had a medical emergency but still feel a need to do a criminal investigation? If police know that she had a medical emergency, what's the crime? The area around the pipeline was not well-secured, but the fence would offer some resistance to a vehicle. If the little old lady was driving the speed limit and passed out, the vehicle having the energy to do this much damage would a remarkable coincidence. Likewise, someone passing out and driving on the exact path that would lead to rupturing the pipeline would be a remarkable coincidence. In either case, the police would not be investigating the situation as a crime if those things are known.
The obvious explanation is that you are being dishonest. Even if the crash ends up being the result of a medical emergency, you don't what happened. I speculated, but I clearly identified my speculation as speculation by using words like "if" and "maybe." I said that maybe the whole thing was an accident. I won't know that until the investigation is complete. You spoke as if you have the answer even as police are beginning an investigation. My guess is that you threw out that speculation because you don't like my raising the possibility that someone who shouldn't be in this country committed a terrorist act against our citizens.
Your dishonesty is why people have so much contempt for the left and anyone else who tries to insist that unrestricted illegal immigration isn't a problem. For that matter, many of us have the same contempt for those on the right who lie to support their narratives or to attack narratives that they don't like. I'm just guessing that you are on the left because generally those are the people most upset by criticism of unrestricted illegal immigration. I guess you could be a Liz Cheney supporter. That wouldn't help your credibility either.

@@Pigtrapper Lots of things. Infrastructure is just one of the many successful policies that has been converted into real gain. Rural communities across the country are being connected with low-cost high-speed fiber optic internet. Rifle Colorado is just one town that has been connected. It created jobs, and now permits remote work from this rural community. It was so popular that Lauren Boebert took credit for it at her local town hall... Even though she voted against the legislation, a vote that you personally support.
