    Thank you
    Hi
    This little Smart Fortwo, came to me because would not engage reverse.
    Would engage forward gears, and would drive absolutely fine, but not reverse...
    After remove, dismantle and lubricate the clutch actuator, the problem was still there, however next day, seemed to be working fine... obviously the problem wouldn't fix itself over night... a quick research, showed that this can be a common issue with this cars... follow me on this video to find out how to resolve it...
    (As it might help someone out there, I found that if I would move from 1st to reverse really quick, reverse would actually engage, but if I would stop in neutral for a few seconds, wouldn't engage anymore....)
    Hope you enjoy the video.
    Any questions or comments put them below.

    Great job as always!! Just a quick question. I just bought a 2005 MK2 Focus 1.6 101HP manual trans. Would it be beneficial to reset PCM adaptations in order to get a bit better mileage or any improvement in driving? Or is it any good reflashing the PCM with the latest soft version? Thank you for your advice!

      But, worth to check for TSB to see if any flash has been released to sort any specific issues with that car...

    I was driving my Wife's 451 when it made a loud bang then just stopped, in time the engine started but the shift wouldn't work in either direction. Before the incident the car seemed to struggle and made more noise than I would expect, the person we got it from said it was the ECU, a solenoid and software that would make the car work again but I'm no expert and am not sure I believe what I was told.

    My mechanic did the actuator cleaning and regreasing, after that he did a reset to the transmission, but when i start to move the car, sometimes it makes a cluncking noise but other than that it shifts just fine.
    Could it be a reteaching problem?
    His tester could not perform a teaching to the transmission.

    Great video. Nice to know that this is a 'known' fault - which we have in intermittently Side question: I purchased a fully automatic gear shift to replace the soft touch for my daughter's 451 I was going to ask my mechanic to swap out the two while he had the car in the shop.
    Q1: Does he need the TAN code to do the swap or will Xentry take care of that?
    Q2: Is it too ambitious to try both at the same time?
    Thanks once again

    • @EtoileBrilliant
      @EtoileBrilliant ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have mine in the shop as I write. They say it is not a remapping issue but could be a faulty pump that supplies oil pressure to the gearbox(?). Any ideas?

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi
      Does not make a lot of sense...
      The gearbox is essentially a manual gearbox that has some electric motors/servos to take care of the single plate clutch and the engagement of the gears...
      Not sure where that oil pressure comes into play...

    Hi I enjoyed watching this video and it is very helpful. I have the same issue with my Smart and I have been having this trouble for about 3 months now. I know Smart garages charge extortionate prices to fix problem and every mechanic in my area is clueless when it comes to Smarts. I have recently purchased the Xentry software online but it doesn't seem to have the file to flush TPU, do you know why this is and how can I go about getting the software to do this procedure?

    Hello, thank you very much for this video. I have the same problem with 451 Smart diesel 2008. It only happened few times tho, I tried to shift reverse from neutral and the N just start blinking. So I turn the engine off/on, shift to 1, etc. and it starts working again after a few minutes. I'm planning to visit the mechanic in a few days (hopefully the one that knows what I'm talking about), can you please tell me what exact software version should I have on my TCU that may resolve this issue? Is it the SW version from the video? Thanks in advance.

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As far as my research went, was something to do with the limits of the actuator... if would move just passing that limit, would cause the issue... could be that temperature could influence it...
      The fact that I opened it etc, could have also have something to do with it...
      Who knows... would probably require more time to figure it out...
      And you probably know how I like to get to the bottom of things.. but sometimes you fix the problem, and that's it...

      After this the car never failed to engage reverse...
      It did not take off smooth, but that was due to a worn clutch, which I know has been replaced few days later...

    Top videos and advice as usual. @lmautorepairs I'm having trouble to get offline programming to come up as I need a folder called flashen to replace the original so offline programming comes up. Do you have this folder or do you know where I can get it from ? I've looked around but can't find it

    Cleaning the actuator is a total waste of time
    The problem is that the car is detecting input shaft drag
    The updated soft ware will accept a slightly amount of rotation but the problem is the clutch is finished
    Replace clutch

    • @LMAutoRepairs

    • @evilutionltd

      It's rarely a worn clutch. The car gives the clutch a certain amount of time to complete a movement. If it takes too long, it fails. Generally it's because the clutch is binding. The replacement clutches have Teflon splines which don't bind. However, smart's update just increases the time allowed for the actuator movement.

      My 451 clutch has started to make a terrible noise on idle. It is as if some bolt has come loose inside. When I drive the car it drives perfectly fine however when it comes to a stop the rough noise is shocking. All the gears work fine. What's gone wrong to my car?

    damn robot, the worst gearbox i've ever seen.
    Gearbox can't engage R due one thing - there are no any synchronizators on reverse gear , so the best way I found - turn on Forward, go a very little, than turn on R. It works perfect for me

    Another over engineered car. I really dont like all this fancy electronics in modern cars, which are built to the cheapest price possible. I tend to stick with good old fashioned manuals cars. Cars from the early 2000s seem to be the most reliable due to not having all these complex electronics?
