I was able to replace the bushings in my 2000 Toyota 4Runner. It feels so much better when I put my vehicle into gear now 😁 Thank you so much for making this video. 😃
Hey Lori, thanks for the comment! It’s really an amazing night/day difference isn’t it? I’m happy your experience is better now behind the wheel. Thanks so much for watching, and you’re welcome!
What about the lower linkage rubber bushings where the shifter attaches to the transmission shift rod and the rubber bushings on the transmission selector arm where the shift rod attaches to the selector arm? Those should be done while you're under there as they get really soft and lose their firmness and sometimes they are gone completely.
All valid points and great feedback. Keep in mind that this work is being done on my personal Runner and I make these videos to help the community as I approach a job. This video was made specifically for the Shifter Bushings, so that’s where my focus was. As our vehicles are aging, there’s plenty of future projects to come and cover. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Hey Edwin! I didn’t forget it, just didn’t film it. That’s a pretty important part to the vehicle shifting into gear, I would hope someone wouldn’t forget to do it. Thanks so much for watching.
Goodness, sorry to hear about your broken leg! As they say, “Necessity is the mother of invention”. You could probably do it without removing the shifter, but I would think that you would still get in some precarious physical positions to do so. Good luck, lemme know if you find a way!
Hi, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. You won’t need to remove the entire assembly from the vehicle to change the indicator. You will have to remove the bezel, and remove the gear shift handle from the “stem/rod.” Once the handle is free (where you grip) you’ll need to unscrew the housing (where the indicator lives inside), unplug any electrical connections you may have and slide it up and off the gear shifter. Once it’s off you’ll see that there is an “upper” and “lower” housing within the one housing part. From there you can separate the two and access the indicator. Good luck!
The part number depends on your model. You can look it up by the name “plate control position indicator” One of the part numbers is 35921-35171 if that helps your search. Good luck!

Thank You for this great video! Very comprehensive and your fine attention to detail doesn’t go unnoticed.
Thank you so much for the compliment! That means more than you know.
Did this too! Feels brand new now.
Fantastic! I’m loving the results of this improvement every day as well.
I like that your projects are on the 2wd model.
Thanks Ken! I appreciate you watching and thanks for the feedback. Definitely more to come.

You forgot to put back your shifter linkage under your car

My main thing is. Can this all be done without removing the shifter? I have a broke leg and can't get under the vehical and do that part. Hmmm..
