Merry Christmas 🎄 🎄 Ilana and family! All the best for 2025. Thank you for all your great travel info and updates. As a Canadian that flies AC, the amount of carry on luggage is mind boggling! Every flight we've been on for awhile now, they make an announcement, that there is too much carry on and would anyone like to check their carry on for free.I get some people are maybe doing carry on only to save the cost of checking luggage, but it's getting ridiculous. Even kids seem to have to have their own carry on. Oh well first world problems. Cheers from London, Ontario.
You’re right, lots of carry ons!! Although with the cost of flights in Canada I can see why people are trying to save where they can. Thanks neighbour 👋
Merry Christmas! Thanks so much for the new travel rules for travelers… I will be traveling UK this year. I paused your video, googled UK visas and immigration…. And within 3 minutes I processed ETA application, which was so easy…just needed my passport and smartphone and email address. $13 US payment .. all steps online. Received approval from UK government within an hour. The visa is going until Jan 2027! Thanks for bringing this visa info to my attention!!!
You must remember that these new restrictions to enter UK and Europe (ie applying for a visa) is what we Europeans have been having to do for years to enter the USA. If you have a criminal record for example, you may be refused entry,
We love your show! The information is so helpful and right to the point!! Our next cruise is a transatlantic on the Apex, our favorite ship right now. After the cruise we are renting a car in the UK and are exploring England and Scotland. At the end we will use train travel. Can’t wait!! Thanks for your tips!!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! Very important and informative information. Thank you. Next Cruise~ Princess February 28th out of Fort Lauderdale. 10 days!!
I know that the AC carry-on charge is infuriating, but necessary, as some people exaggerate with bringing multiple bags on board. I recently travelled to Europe with AC and I sat watching people coming on board with multiple bags and they get upset that they have no room in the bins above their seats! I’ve been travelling for 60 years and the level of stupidity & selfishness nowadays never ceases to amaze me! It was a matter of time that Air Canada would introduce a new policy on paying for carry-on luggage it’s getting ridiculous and the flight attendants are the ones that have to deal with this problem, it’s very stressful for them!
My husband and I are embarking on our first cruise in January 2025! We'll be exploring Spain 🇪🇸 and Morocco 🇲🇦. Your videos have been incredibly informative, and we've learned so much. Thank you for sharing your expertise! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
I'm not understanding the carry-on. You get with your ticket one carry-on and one personal bag. People that have more than that should be the ones paying extra regardless of how much their economy ticket costs. I've had to check my carry-on at the gate a couple times because the bins were full of people's stuff that was way more than the 2 smaller bags they were "allowed" to bring on board. Penalize the people creating the problem, not some poor person that is just trying to go visit Grandma for the last time.
Thank you for keeping everyone informed. We have a Panama Canal cruise on the Emerald Princess in February….first time as Elite. We have not booked our flights yet because our daughter just booked rooms at the Pop Century at Disney for 6 days before. Now I can book. Merry Christmas
Good information. My wife and I downloaded the UK ETA app and completed the application in about 5 minutes. Very quick and easy (note - it scans the chip on your passport which is on the back on newer US passports). We each received approval in exactly 16 minutes! By the way, the cost us 10£ - not € :)
Westjet is charging for carryons if you have a Basic Economy fare. If you pay a bit more for an Econoflex fare you can have a carryon plus one checked bag.
If the air industry were not so greedy I would say sure but the aren't accommodating to their customers like delays cancelations it's just another charge prohibiting some people from flying
A great overview of the current and impending travel requirements for 2025! Thanks. We are going on a 12-day cruise from Southampton on the X Apex to Belgium and Norway. In addition to trying to determine the ETA/ETIAS issues, we also discovered the passport requirements for the UK (passport must be valid for "duration of your stay") and the Schengen area (valid 3 months after your departure date from the Schengen Area) - something to watch as other countries require at least 6 months validity after your intended tavel dates.
@@Reed-2big That is also something to watch for sure and can very easily be overlooked. With these new changes, though, that may not be as much of a concern because you won't get as many stamps in your passport in the future.
@ I had a expanded passport with 2-3 visa in it. No, I’m not going back to China so that’s a couple of pages. But even Abu Dhabi who was using biometrics still stamped my passport! This passport was issued when you only got entry and exit stamps for the EU, so not many there. And my visa for india wasn’t in this passport either. And hopefully I won’t get another stamp for entering and exiting St Maartin, as that was a family emergency. But this passport will have one for Barbados. I’m not sure which stamps you thinking are dropping, but I’m sure both Argentina and Australia stamped my passport even though they required an electronic form be signed and printed.
The new Air Canada “no carry-on” rule follows Westjet’s own. It stems from the fact that a lot of us want to do carry on only and there not being enough space on board. Unfortunately, I still see many people putting more than one item and taking up more than one carry on space and this doesn’t seem to be policed by the flight attendants. It’s created a stressful situation for those of us who prefer a carry on only way to travel so I’m hoping that enough people will take these basic fares to alleviate some of the pressure on the overhead space.
It shouldn’t be up to the flight attendant, it should be the ground crew who are checking you into the plane…they are the last to see you before you board.
I'm happy I live close enough to be able to drive to the cruise port city the day before my cruise leaves. Love to spend some time there as well as going on a cruise.
I applied for UK ETA and got approval in a couple of hours. Note also, Australia and New Zealand also require ETA. If you are cruising there, there are very friendly apps to get that done.
I think we pay enough for flights to not be charged for a carry on. However... I would love it if more people didn't bring all their carry on bags because it takes people so long to get off the plane. I usually upgrade my seats anyway so it really doesn't effect me a lot.
Glad I’ve seen most of the countries on my bucket list. So tired of all these extra fees on both cruises and flights. Airfare has already priced many out of flying. Plus government overreach has gotten ridiculous.
Thank you Llana for the great info. I am so excited for my next cruise in fall 2025 on the Carnival Celebration. My sister and I would cruise together, but I haven’t been in many years since she passed away in 2017. I will be a solo cruiser which I have never done before.

I’ve seen other channels with comments about the charge for carryons and such and many are enraged. Not angry, not disappointed…. Full on rage. Calling on horrible things related to CEOs. And declaring they will sneak on what ever they can get away with. I call full stop on this nonsense. Flights cost what they cost. You get what you pay for. If a person can travel with a personal item only, fabulous for them. But that item better be under the seat in front of them and not taking up overhead bin space. They are specifically given a lower rate due to there lack of luggage. They should enjoy this privilege in peace. In addition, coats and purses and umbrellas, etc. do not belong in the overhead bins. I have been on flights where the only open space near me was where someone’s coat is and they don’t own up. Everyone pretends it not theirs or they can’t hear me. Unbelievable. And yes I do ask and say something to try to problem solve ahead of time. The flight attendant has to get involved and it’s stressful for them to find me and others a spot. They have to meet a very tight timeline for boarding and takeoff. They don’t need to be the overhead bin police. We can all work together. The entitlement I observe of some people flying is sad and disheartening. It’s already challenging enough to travel by plane. Why make it harder for your fellow flightmates? We all have somewhere to be. Cooperation ❤ goes a long way. Not paying for a carry on and sneaking stuff on will not affect the CEO at all. They will just come up with stricter protocols such as paying gate agents to look for those who did not pay for specific services and charging a steeper rate at the gate. Some airlines right now are doing a boarding zone scan that beeps when a person tries to board in a zone before theirs is called. From what I understand they are then sent to the back of the line. Bottom line as with any bonuses in life that is above and beyond basic needs we have to pay to play. It’s just like dining out and tipping. If you don’t have the money to cover all the expenses including the culturally acceptable gratuity, people should not go out the eat. It’s financially irresponsible. As with flying, if a flight fare cannot be budgeted with all the needs like seat assignments and or carry one bags, people need to find another way to get to the destination. The way I look at things is travel is a privilege to enjoy and respect. It is not a right. And traveling by plane has a high level of self awareness and responsibility. Any action where a person steps out of the guidelines and rules affects other passengers. If I pay for a specific seat and a carry on bag at full price I expect to have those needs met. Unfortunately, there are people who feel they are being wronged by the airline and retaliate in ways that are entitled and inconsiderate. None of these actions are helpful. And most affect other passengers.
Very informative video! One question, we are going on a Princess British Isles cruise next year. So we will need the ETA for the UK but entering Ireland and France, bookending it, how do we get the ETIAS in time? We will be in the UK a couple days before we leave. Would Princess have something set up on board?
ETA (UK) you can get now. The issue with Etias is that it has been delayed, it is now meant to be up and running 6 months after ESS (the fingerprint and photo entry part for Europe) that was meant to be up in Nov 2024, but has been delayed yet again till 2025 (No idea when in 2025....). So it all depends on when you are travelling.
Hi Liana, I am doing a transatlantic cruise in April 2025 leaving from Miami and finishing in Southampton, London. Do I need to do an ETIAS or a UK ETA application. Thank you! 😊
I read it the same was you do - "An ETA gives you permission to travel to the UK.", and the UK Gov site says: You can get an ETA instead of a visa if you are: (item 4) - transiting through the UK - including if you are not going through UK border control
New Zealand and Australia have their own version of this new money grab. New Zealand has NZeTA and Australia has ETA. New Zealand's NZeTA is $68.92 USD. Australia's ETA is $12.95 USD. On the baggage front, does any airline think you travel overseas or cross country with only the cloths on your back? One checked bag should always be free included as part of the ticket price.
The emergency happened to a friend of mine. She was traveling with her husband. He had a heart attack and needed to be hospitalized in the Dominican Republic. Apparently, they would not have needed a passport for the port of call, but they needed one for a longer stay, and they needed one to fly home.
Howdy Ilana, subscribed and even hit the like button. Like to start and end at NYC. Thinking about a repositioning cruise though. EES replacing passports? With all the drones up there maybe it would be safer taking a train.
@@harlanabraham7772 lol, maybe 😂. We do still need passports to travel internationally, but I think they won’t be stamping them or even necessarily looking as they were before. This is the system when you get off many cruise ships recently
The last time I had luggage lost the airline lost baggage process allowed me to track their tagging. But, yes, apple tag was faster to see the movement.
Thanks for the information. AC site states personal item depth is 6 inches. Most personal item bags I find in videos or on Amazon are 8 inch depth. Any recommendations?
The UK ETA isn't difficult, but the APP and website are both buggy. Be sure to give yourself enough time and be willing to switch devices or install a new browser if you're having issues.
The problem with ETIAS not implemented yet and being implemented later in 2025 is my trip will be around the same time. It's hard to get the ETIAS in time for my trip.
Etias will not be implemented until 6 months after ESS (according to official website). ESS was meant to be NOV 2024, delayed yet again, the website now says, "It is due to start in 2025." So it all depends when your trip is?
@@danielnormand8156 ETIAS shouldn't be running in May (that's from the official European website) - the official website on ESS and ETIAS is travel-europe.europa.eu. If you are unlucky then ESS might be up where they will scan your fingerprints and take your pic at the border (like has been happening to non-usa passport for years)
Do you have any idea if the ETIAS will have a different process for people with felonies? I have a friend that wanted to go to Australia and never was able to get approved because of a felony from 30 years ago. His application is still pending after 2 years!
I have a cruise in January but I have a transatlantic with my granddaughter on May 3, then travel around Spain, then fly to Greece and stay 3 days before another cruise around the Greek Islands and Turkey. So we don't leave until May 31. I knew nothing about this etias and would have just not been able to leave on my vacation if I hadn't watched this TH-cam! Not unless they push it back.
I am flying from Orlando to visit a friend in Vancouver BC in March. Do you know what I need other than my passport? Do they have the 6 month rule? My passport expires in October. Thanks for your help!
As it stands currently (December 2024) Air Canada offers 3 free checked luggage items for active or retired Canadian OR American military members. Not sure how it's going to change with the new 2025 policy with carry ones. Can one use their checked allowance for a carry on? Last time I flew Air Canada, the instructions were to check in online with "no luggage". Then when I arrived at the airport, I went to the special services desk and got ID'ed and bags tagged /accepted. Don't take this as gospel. Do your own research on the current policy/procedure. Safe travels all
I am not taking any chances..I am applying for my ETIAS in January for my March transatlantic to Spain i. The Schengen Area. I have a real ID drivers license, a global entry card, and passport book and a passport card😂😂😂😂. I have air tags in my bags but American airlines has not signed on yet. And thank goodness American has not implemented that carry on pay..For me i just say get a passport!..very nice video Ilana🚢🙂
Charging for carry on- I feel it’s due to people trying to bypass the checked in luggage cost. I’m not sure how it’s going to affect travellers but I know I will need to rethink my packing due to it
I’m flying from the USA to Australia in April 2025. We will be porting ar New Caledonia. I’ve been told I need a visa, how do I get one Thank You. I love your Channel. Judy
I'm taken with the idea of Apple Airtags working with the airlines. It's a brilliant concept. I would like to know if airlines will also work with the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2, which I find incredibly convenient. It's reassuring to know that my belongings are always within reach. It's worth noting that Americans or Canadians with legal residency in EU countries are exempt from the ETIAS requirement. The ETIAS, or European Travel Information and Authorization System, is a new travel authorization that will be required for non-EU citizens who reside in their country of origin and arrive in an EU nation. The exemption for non-EU travelers with legal residency in EU countries is a significant convenience for many travelers, like our family. Have a wonderful holiday!

Thanks for update
4:00 The ETA to enter the United Kingdom will cost a passenger ten pounds (not Euros) this approximates to US $12.56.
United won’t even allow you to pay for a carry on if you have the basic economy ticket!
I wish airlines would charge for carry on and offer a free checked bag.
Merry Christmas and a Happy Ne Year
Thank you for the new updates I have a cruise coming up 2026
Glad this was helpful! I think we’ll all have to keep aware over the next year :)
@LifeWellCruised my passport expired and so did my state ID card so I've gotten myself in quite the pickle
The air canada carry on cost is kind of infuriating ☹️ it's not like they're going to price match with budget airlines.
It is infuriating. This is just going to cause unnecessary delays
carry on cost only applies to basic fare, not all fare classes
Minor mistake by Llana the ETA for the UK is £10 (not euros) this is about $12.57 at the moment
Oh yes!! My apologies I meant pounds. Thanks
@@LifeWellCruised your welcome, and thank you for the wonderful content you produce
@ Thanks!
Great information thank you !
So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Hi Liana, I am doing a transatlantic cruise in April 2025 leaving from Miami and finishing in Southampton, London. Do I need to do an
ETIAS or a UK ETA application. Thank you! 😊
Simple solution to the carry-on madness. Stop charging for bags. It all started when they started charging for bags.
As I read the uk rules it applies to connecting flights too!
I read it the same was you do - "An ETA gives you permission to travel to the UK.", and the UK Gov site says: You can get an ETA instead of a visa if you are: (item 4) - transiting through the UK - including if you are not going through UK border control
@ Thxs I’m not crazy about transfers there anyway and this would add to it, if I’m just in transit.
I love the top you are wearing! Do you have a link?
Mexico is going to have extra fees in 2025, too, and they are high...
@@LifeWellCruised None of the foreign countries I've been to ever stamped my passport. Been on 31 cruises.
She does everything right!
It is best to have a passport book (not a passport card). Some ports won't let you off the ship if you don't have a passport book.
My next cruise is May 2025 celebrity to eastern Caribbean.
What's aggravating is the air tags don't work for android. You have to have an iphone, which I never will! When are rhey fixing this?
The problem with ETIAS not implemented yet and being implemented later in 2025 is my trip will be around the same time. It's hard to get the ETIAS in time for my trip.
Etias will not be implemented until 6 months after ESS (according to official website). ESS was meant to be NOV 2024, delayed yet again, the website now says, "It is due to start in 2025." So it all depends when your trip is?
@preachertrips my trip is in May. I think I will be ok but hopefully they give a break for a few months when it does come into effect
@@danielnormand8156 ETIAS shouldn't be running in May (that's from the official European website) - the official website on ESS and ETIAS is travel-europe.europa.eu. If you are unlucky then ESS might be up where they will scan your fingerprints and take your pic at the border (like has been happening to non-usa passport for years)
Do you know if Medical devices are allowed to be brought on without charge? How about lithium ion batteries that MUST be carry on?
Do you have any idea if the ETIAS will have a different process for people with felonies? I have a friend that wanted to go to Australia and never was able to get approved because of a felony from 30 years ago. His application is still pending after 2 years!
Merry Christmas
Do you need a passport going to Alaska from Seattle, coming back to Seattle(Roundtrip), due to the stop in Canada???
Do you need an ETAIS for Caribbean cruises?
The carry-on situation on AC applies only to the lowest economy fare. Also Air Transat is seriously thinking to apply the same rules.
What about Asia cruises, any chanes to flying to Japan and cruising to asian countries?
As it stands currently (December 2024)
Air Canada offers 3 free checked luggage items for active or retired Canadian OR American military members.
Safe travels all
I always have to fly to my cruises because I live in Georgia!
I wonder what I'll need if sailing into the UK, then touring in the EU for a bit.
What website to use when renewing my passport?
I am not taking any chances..I am applying for my ETIAS in January for my March transatlantic to Spain i. The Schengen Area. I have a real ID drivers license, a global entry card, and passport book and a passport card😂😂😂😂. I have air tags in my bags but American airlines has not signed on yet. And thank goodness American has not implemented that carry on pay..For me i just say get a passport!..very nice video Ilana🚢🙂
Charging for carry on- I feel it’s due to people trying to bypass the checked in luggage cost. I’m not sure how it’s going to affect travellers but I know I will need to rethink my packing due to it
I think you’re right
I’m flying from the USA to Australia in April 2025. We will be porting ar New Caledonia. I’ve been told I need a visa, how do I get one Thank You. I love your Channel. Judy
you can check the official Australian Gov website, there is a visa checking depending on whether you are going to visit, study or work.
