"Why should a person spend so much money on headphone audio because alot can be had at lower price points". I think this viewpoint mainly comes from (1) people who are imposing their own sense of "value" onto others or (2) people who have not actually tried the best headphones have to offer and heard the differences themselves. While alot can be had at lower price points, and diminishing returns kicks in pretty hard for headphones especially after the 1-2k pricepoint, some people are willing to pay a premium for that last 5-10% (subjective) improvement in sound quality. To my ears, that last 5-10% is an extremely significant difference and makes the music I listen to much more enjoyable, regardless of how much I have to shell out to achieve that level of audio fidelity. We are not robots that derive enjoyment purely based on price to performance. I don't think its a healthy mindset to judge others based on one's own sense of value because everyone values things differently. For example, I *personally* don't find any value in owning luxury watches or luxury bags, but I don't go around shaming others who derive enjoyment from owning such items - as long as it makes them happy and they can afford it, its all good.
Agree with a lot of points in this video but I disagree on the "craftsmanship" argument for Rolex. Rolex is far overpriced from a pure craftsmanship perspective. Greater horology and incredible craftsmanship can be had for much more reasonable prices from the likes of JLC, Glashutte, Moser, even GS and Zenith.. the reason to flock to Rolex are the hype and aftermarket value.
Sure. I am aware of that argument. Some people say even Grand Seiko is better crafted. It’s still extremely fine craftsmanship IMO Rolex produces: not just finishing but the sheer delightfulness of their design; sturdiness, etc.
Disagree. Rolex at retail is a great buy and on many accounts have provably lasted many decades. If we're discussing aftermarket value, then yes, it's very much "overpriced." But that is driven by speculative demand and is entirely out of Rolex's control. The brands listed aren't exactly innocent either. JLC's movement finishing has plummeted, Zenith designs are strangely resembling Hublot, and Moser is holy trinity expensive so they shouldn't be a part of the discussion. Though I do agree that GO and GS are up there in terms exceptional craftsmanship for reasonable. Not sure why discussing Rolex is so radioactive nowadays-they've done more than any other brand in the watch industry. I personally own a VC Cornes de Vache and Overseas, GS Night Birch, JLC MUT perpetual, and a Rolex Daytona. While it doesn't spend the most wrist time, going back to the Daytona feels refreshing every once in a while.
Thank you for this video discussion.. It was over due. My first stereo was $129,00, I bought it at the neighborhood appliance store (none exist today anymore} It was one of the first that had a turntable and radio built in. At the time I was earning $18k a year. Im now 71 yrs old, worked hard all over the USA for decades, lived without my family to earn a living for several years as one example. Many years later now When I retired my earnings were 6 figures +. Two years ago I purchased a Lina stack as one of my first new headphone hobby buys. and joined the headphone hobby. And so to me that's an American or any success story. I enjoyed ,appreciated my first stereo. Today I enjoy and can afford my Lina stack, so what's up with anyones judgement. I have children raising families that the best they can spend on a headphone (by choice) are Ear Pods....so what of it? So again thanks for the video as it points out a simple fact of life. We are all free to buy or aspire to buy what we can afford and what we obtain joy and pleasure from and none of that should be anyones business. I respect and appreciate the ear pod owner right next to the Susvara owner .So Respectfully if you think buying a Susvara or any headphone of a similar price is crazy, or does not have value then don't buy it. Respect the choice however of anyone who can and does....................it's call free will. BTW this discussion applies to anything...wannna talk Cars................
Mate, people with two channel systems have crazy expensive systems. There’s the MSB DAC that three people I know own and that DAC itself is $100,000. As for watches, check out prices of Richard Mille watches. As for who buys these things and jobs that can afford them: banking, medicine, real estate to name a few, and of course having your own business. I probably didn’t need to tell you that. 😂
Have both after many years wasting money on both watches and headphones decided to try top end of both watches and headphones They are keepers no longer have itch to upgrade either Both superb I’m delighted
Value perception is always an interesting topic. The susvara is worth $2.5k for me used while a Rolex or a watch is worth $0 to me because I don’t wear them. I appreciate the technology and design of various watches to look at them but I would never wear one. Most enthusiasts will value a Rolex or Sus much higher than I would. Cars are another thing where if I did have crazy money I would spend it on cars.
This is an interesting topic. I am not saying that I can afford these sets but definitely there's rich shaming. I do believe that there's a lot to be had at a higher price point hence the pursuit of such in any product range/hobby. When you have the means then it's not a problem. The only problem is to fail to strike a balance between value and opulence. It makes the market mudded for those who cannot afford it or are money/value conscience just because there will always be someone who is willing to buy it since they can afford it. Opinions vary on this topic especially since these products may not be available for the general public to test and experience what gear at these price points are. Then again if they were available then they wouldn't be exclusive... What a paradox!
Great comparison I am in both hobbies and I was thinking many times about this issue 👍 I spend money easier on watches as on hifi😢 Hifi makes my life more enjoyable as a watch but the financial lost on Hifi is much higher if you are going to sell it😢
Depends on what price point you buy then at…I don’t know if all watches retain value as well as PP, AP, Rolex. You can of course buy used audio gears and you won’t lose money necessarily if you buy after used prices have settled down:
Nah, you said it. Most people can't afford it. And that's ok. The great thing about the hobby is that there is something for everybody in every hobby. How much you do or dont spend dont matter just enjoy.
The price of the product has been a topic of discussion for centuries. First of all, Rolex is a typical everyday watch, the so-called toolwatch, Susvara is a masterpiece of art among headphones, so it cannot be compared. Some people prefer to drive a Ferrari, others prefer to buy Hi-end audio equipment. Personally, I am in the latter group.
No I am aware. I have bought a sub and a DJ at retail. Waitlists I mention in the context of how it is represented to the overwhelming majority of buyers.

Agree 💯
I received a lot of criticism from friends and family after purchasing my Porsche 911 (992). So, I get it. But that car brings me so much joy!
Congrats 🎈

@@chlorinegivesmelife9792 I agree with you. Discussing Rolex has become radioactive and its idiocy really.
Nice comparison. By the way how can I find the black cat figure without pant? I would like to buy one too.

After this video I only have 2 questions, what is your job and that guy who spent 100 thousand on a sound system?
I am interested too🤣🤣

Fair enough

Well put!
Cool mentioning the Raal Immanis, btw it's Raal 1995 now for the new series.
I've heard that you really liked the Immanis.
Loved it!
Great video, as always 👍
Thanks for the visit
Lovely GMT with that Jubilee 😍
Indeed!

Cool.
I think these two items are just a waste of money. That being said, if I won the lottery I’d probably buy these exact two items 😂
5:28 finally addressed the elephant in the room!
Susvara. ✅
You can get it for USD$3,500 you say? 😮
Pray tell…
I knew you were a billionaire, aha
lol ! Start a watch and headfi thread 😂
I should!
noice
I probably should tell you. There is no wait list #iykyk… at least not what people think it is
