  • A prominent Odissi dancer and guru, Sharon Lowen has made outstanding contributions to Indian classical arts through a career spanning four decades. Born and brought up in the US, she was fascinated with dance right from a very young age. In this second and final segment of the conversation with Madhur Gupta, Lowen talks warmly about her guru and inspiration Kelucharan Mohapatra and recalls the affection and care he showered on her. Lowen speaks about how, coming from a different culture, she was able to establish herself in the field of Odissi at the level of her peers. Lowen says that the young generation should take up a career in dance only if they are willing to do it with great passion and commitment.
Madhur Gupta is one of the leading Odissi dance exponents of his generation. He is also an author and columnist widely featured in national and international publications for his sensitive writings in the field of arts and culture. Apart from extensively performing and writing, Madhur also teaches Odissi at Sangeet Vidya Niketan, New Delhi.
