I feel this is one of the crucial songs to understand PowaPowaP's main struggle when he was alive: growing up and loosing "Yourself". We don't need to go really far on the lyrics analysis. There are two each with two opposite events: Elementary Schoolers and Middle Schoolers is one, High Schoolers and Adults are other. The first opposition Is the passage from extreme childhood, when elementary schoolers paint mud on their faces attempting to get attention, to the mid-childhood when middle schoolers paint their arms and play normally. It's a trajectory from the state of "Individual" to the state of the "Collective". This trajectory happens again on the passage from a high-school where people desperate on trying to detach (high schoolers paint their hairs) towards a adult world like Japan's where the status quo is brutal, then Adults paint their lungs by smoking and conforming themselves with adulthood and the loss of their individuality. This is of great weight on PowaPowaP, after all he committed suicide by feeling like he lost his charm after he became an adult, and this song is exactly about this. May he rest in peace.

Sometimes I wonder what Siinamota could've accomplished, how much his songs might've progressed, if he had gotten help. If he had gone down a road of recovery. These songs of his are full of suffering, and I suppose that's what makes them so authentic and appealing to a wide audience - when you're in a deep, dark place, you tend to speak directly into whatever you make or say. Being vulnerable to your own depression, loneliness, thoughts, can make your creations seem so much more real, but it can also limit your own art and creativity. Don't get me wrong. I love his songs. I believe loving them is not an insult to his memory or to his suffering, but rather a good way to honor his memory, considering he put his heart and soul into the songs he made; his songs have brought comfort to many, many people, and I truly wish he's resting in peace after all his life of suffering, knowing what an impact he made upon so many people for the better (and for the worse). However, it does make me sad to think about the amazing songs he might've made, had he ever gotten the help and support he needed, and learned to cope with life.

I think when it says the lines about different school ages it actually means: High schoolers paint color into their hair: High schoolers change their appearance to fit in more with others. This could also mean constantly changing themselves and their appearance so they can just stay "friends" with others. Elementary Schoolers paint mud on their faces: This is when they change themselves and their personalities so they're not left out and considered weird, and they paint mud specifically because it's changing them so that they're not clear like they used to be. Middle Schoolers paint color onto their arms: MIddle schoolers are going through adolescence, thus cutting themselves due to the stress of friends and school(although this is just to describe the depression, but in most cases, not actually meaning cutting themselves). College students paint color onto their lungs: Although most just interpreted this as smoking, I think this could also mean them breathing and having to accept the cruel world and it's lies. I saw a lot of people(and the description) coming up with simple things like elementary kids throwing mud at each other while playing and the like, but we have to remember how much symbolism and thought Powapowa-P put into his work. In fact, just looking at a song like "Please Give Me a Red Pen" can get you thinking for hours. This dude had a really deep, almost philosophical outlook on life. It's a shame that I discovered him after he died, I think if we have a lot in common regarding how we see life. Overall, these lines, in my opinion, are supposed to represent the constant struggles throughout life. Elementary schoolers had to try and fake themselves so they could fit in with other people, middle schoolers going through stress and depression from being bullied, and the constant stress from schoolwork, especially in Asia (In fact, i'm in 7th grade myself, 13 years old, but I really enjoy dissecting things like Powapowa-Ps work), high schoolers, who have already changed their own core personalities, have to constantly adapt to others so they can be accepted by others, and finally, college students painting color onto their lungs by breathing in the lies and corruption of the "real" world, since they were always cared for and nurtured up until high school, and eventually becoming corrupted, or "tainted" themselves(You can also relate this as to why he killed himself, because he didn't want to grow up and become "tainted," instead of doing what he loved just for fun). Everybody can relate to this song because of what it's representing, some more than others. Edit: When he says "They can't tell one color from another anymore," I think this means that each individual's personalities have been so changed that we can't tell who they really are, and everyone tries to fit into this "perfect circle" of life that we create, we can hardly tell the difference from one person to the next.
Koharu Kisaragi Lol thanks. I wrote this awhile ago and totally forgot about it, so i'm glad to see it got so many likes. Like I said, I really enjoy trying to figure out hidden meanings behind works like this, I think I spent a little more than 40 minutes to just do this song.
MioKay I know there is no official statement, but it's almost definitely a suicide. The last song he produced was "give me a red pen," which was about how he wanted to rewrite his life and never wanting to grow up. His body was found about 2 hours later.
I think the meaning of the different school ages "painting" themselves is shown in the picture where the kids cover themselves with their hands. Yellow (elementary school): telling lies "painting mud" to grab more attention from society. (Painting mud "on their faces" could mean telling lies from their face/mouth.) Red (middle school): dealing with overall depression now that their innocence of elementary school is gone by cutting their wrists "painting their wrists" or possibly using creativity to ease their mind by drawing on their wrists. Blue (high school): changing their appearance "painting their hair" to be accepted in society. Black (college student): accepting the world around them by loosing their true colors and breathing through corrupted lungs "painting their lungs". "Breathing through corrupted lungs" is a metaphor that means "becoming evil/tainted," which could very well be caused by society. Other theories also say that college students resort to drugs, alcohol, or specifically smoking for this case to deal with the pressure of society.
I think Blue is the middle school one, because if they cut their wrist, they hide it, to be able to continue to do it, without being stopped by anyone : the blue girl have long sleeve : probably to hide the cuts.

"middle-schoolers get tattoos on their arms (or maybe cut their wrists?)" Actually, kids tend to draw on one another with marker and pens, especially in middle school and early high school. I don't think 14 year olds are getting tattoos.
from what i can tell this song is about things such as loosing innocence and growing up. it starts off from when you are a little kid and playing around in mud puddles and toys with no cares in the world then it goes to in middle school which is when lots of kids get confused about things like identity and experiment with different styles, such as being an athlete, goth, geek, ect. next is high school when people begin to experiment with things such as sexual orientation, dating, and identity then is college when people begin to experiment with drugs and begin to drink things like alcohol the song uses color as a metaphor for things like identity and experiences, as some one grows up more and more experiences are added and turn into your personality, or in the songs case the more colors are added and mixed together to the point where you forget what you started with you can;t go back to your innocence just like how you can't un-mix colors we all need to grow up eventually and doing so makes us forget what it was like to be so pure and innocent as a young child
This is what it means to me "The days follow in this direction" The world continues to do this. Fit in to be accepted. To not believe in anything so you won't be hated. To agree with everyone or be told your wrong and stupid. " High-schoolers paint color into their hair " They change their personalities and try to grab attention. Willing to do things like dye their hair and act differently. "Elementary-schoolers paint mud onto their faces " They change how they look at a young age to fit in with what is beautiful. Considering how they look they might think they're fine or ugly. People put on fake hair so it looks longer. Make up or "mud" covers their face so they can think they're beautiful. When they can't tell the colors apart they can't tell people apart. People try to not to be a sore thumb and fit in with trending clothing, hair styles and makeup. In the end they covered up the thing that made them unique. When Middle-schoolers paint color onto their arms they're scarring themselves. They're depressed or suicidal. College students paint color onto their lungs. They're smoking. People can smoke for many reasons so I guess it depends. When they are painted in colors they admit they changed in ways to fit in too. And even you have changed yourself in ways to fit in too. Soon we forget who we really are and think that the changed us is us. Mixing in venomous colors are things that can hurt you. You do things to fit in but they can be things that kill you or change your life in a negative way. A cheery waltz is acting like every is fine and fun when really it's not.
After listening to this song (and all of Siinamota-san's other works), I have to say, we lost a very talented and wonderful person. His songs are all very nice, and although I didn't know of him before this, I wish he were still here. But he's no longer here, so the only connection we can have is through his works.
this may be a small thing, but I realized the sample with the static at 3:03 also plays in one ok rock's "introduction" on their niche album (predates a palette full of you by about 2 years). not sure if it was originally from one ok rock or if it's simply a generic sample from somewhere else, but if it's the former then that means powapowap used to listen to the album, which the themes are about not giving up and pushing through tough times. I know we know powapowap was struggling when he passed, but a little interesting thing I found :(
i think it's just a stock sample, i can't remember where exactly but i know i've heard it in a random youtube video before and i was like holy shit this is just like siinamota. but then nobody was actually talking about siinamota or anything in the comments so i figured it was just a coincidence. so i assume that probably is too, but in any case i've never heard of one ok rock before so i'm glad to at least have learned about them from your comment
@@realshura No real job and still live in my parent basement. I'm somewhat feel better than in the college years.... Still my teenage years stay the best year of my life. Thankyou for asking me and sorry if i have bad english.
This song is so sad... ; - ; (but so pretty, the music is really strange but catchy) Myself I don't really want to grow up, and I'm sure I can understand a bit this song and maybe Powapowa-P but to think that it make him commit this... it's so sad I can't even really trust in it... Thank you for all the amazing music you made during those 5-6 years, your style was so unique with a beautiful meaning. May you now rest in peace Mizoguchi Ryou...
It's really sad that I never found out about PowapowaP until after he died. I can identify with his songs really well. I can't say I was as deeply affected by his death as others since I haven't known about him for long, but damn, his lyrics really get you thinking. Rest in peace, PowapowaP, and I hope you're in a better place than you were before.
Listening to this after just reaching the tail end of a pretty bad bout of depression hits pretty hard. Siinamota was my favorite vocaloid producer growing up yet as an adult I finally get the meaning of this song
Thank you so much for doing this! I purchased an album of his about 1.5 years ago, and this became one of my favorites, but I never found a translation of it... until now! Now seeing the translation, this song has another reason to become a favorite of mine again! It did really make me sad to hear that Powapowa-P took his life. I'm the same age right now myself! It's unbelievable to think about. The best I can do now is continue to enjoy the music he left us with.
Just a thought but perhaps painting there lungs isn't about smoking. What if it's about how college students paint an image of themselves in words (from their mouth and by association lungs). After all college students tend to be very opinionated. College is a time when people want to color their insides and outsides. People feel like they should have themselves figured out by around that point.
It's been awhile since I listened to this, my first Powapowa-P song. I forgot this sound, these words..how I felt. It's like coming home. Now I remember what it was I loved about his music. It was this.
Okay so, after being pretty addicted to this song, 2 theories came up in my mind; 1st theory is about people losing themself. Its basically like people sticking into new trends and things that they basically lose who they REALLY are. "Mixing with venomous colors" is sticking with so many trends and new things is basically losing yourself to stick with everybody else and not get judged, but it still doesnt make you happy. And if you be yourself, you'll get judged. Another thing i wanna add is that they want to be kids once more and have fun, and not be adults struggling with their lives. 2nd theory is about su1c1d3. This theory refers to the line "Noticed, and then met up here!". I noticed in the lyrics the "up here" part and made me think of a theory. So basically, people a bullied due to not sticking with new trends or things which leads to su1c1d3. Then, they meet eachother up in heaven and be happy that they no longer have to suffer. But, they wanted to go back to their old lives, and be kids once again.
This is now one of my favorite songs ever, I was introduced to it by an Omori music video. I love the instrumentals and the lyrics, I actually find myself relating to them because I'm currently in high school (10th grade) and I'm worried about my future. It all seems so uncertain right now, I have a plan in mind what I want to be, but I find it hard to imagine myself as an adult. I have some internal worries that in the future I might not pursue what I'm actually interested in, get some shitty job that I hate, lose my friends, lose my individuality, etc... This song's lyrics are incredibly sad but in some way comforting. RIP Siinamota, amazing composer and person.
been listening to his songs for almost 4 years and just discovered that his songs are actually based on his feelings and experiences........hope's siinamota's happy up there,,
When I first heard “young girl A” it was perfect but now with all the songs to listen to… I just wished I could meet siinamota Fun facts about PowaPowaP His real name is Ryo (I have no idea if that’s his first name or last) He is actually a boy (since he was called siinamota and used vocaloid it’s obvious he can get confused for a girl)
After I listened to Shiinamota's song I felt like I was hidden out of nowhere and I also felt lonely too when I was in elementary school until now and then I'm afraid to grow up, but thanks to his efforts I really appreciate the songs he made, I hope he will rest in peace. I really like this song so much all of song
3:03 that sound is sampled from RANT by Bo Burnham, I commented about that like 2 months ago on the audio version of RANT but it's time I say so here now that I remembered
yeah, i noticed that too but wasn’t sure if both artists just sampled it from the same place. but if that’s not the case it would be pretty cool to learn that powapowa watched bo’s video at one point
Wow PowapowaP passed away? That's really sad... His music had that style that is just oh so charming. Rest in peace PowapowaP. Your music always cheered me up when I feel down
its so strange to see some of the comments. i guess people who struggle relate to his works and his death. saddness. i think its hard to be truly happy, but if youre really sad it takes most of you anyway. his songs are truly depressed, really. it reminds of a person trying to cheer themselves up, to avoid thinking about all the bad. im tired of people who are happy and never knew what its like to feel bad, because they joke about me. they think im socially awkward because im weak, not because im always sad. happiness have become a really strange idea for me. everyone should have a little salt in their shoes.
Bringing up the whole see no evil hear no evil and speak no evil, what if the girl in the middle was the evil and they were blocking her. With the whole color mixing, what if the three primary colors and the black all in one person and the person was not going to lose to their inner demons, so they will not look at it, hear it, or speak it to others so they don't have to face it.
Or maybe the person in the middle is one's "true self". but to be fully accepted by their surroundings, they are supposed to have just one colour (black is a mix of all colours) and they can't talk about that "true self". so they refrain from hearing it, talking about it and seeing it. Or maybe I'm overthinking about all of this.
I think since she isn't doing any of the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" poses, she sees the evil, hears the evil and speaks the evil, which is the bleakness of the world outside of the childhood palette.
Did anyone else notice how each of the three girls represent the saying "do not speak, hear, or see evil"? For example the blue girl is covering her eyes, the yellow one her mouth, and the red one her ears. Thought that was interesting
shit. the painting colours in first chorus hits me hard. i have done all those thing. painting mud on my face, dying my hair, paint colour on my hand. and now painting colours on my lungs. all in the same time line. shit.
Huh, seems he passed on my birthday. Sad I didn't know of him much before his death, though his Strobe songs are some of my favorites, especially Strobe Last.
Everybody around me is like "Why DON'T you like GIVE ME A RED PEN YOU FREAK DID YOU WANT RYOU TO DIE?" And I'm just like "Okay calm down....Now, I just like this one more because it applies more to my tastes. Quiet your screamings, put down the keyboard, and open your mind lol"
Powapowa P has a thing when it comes to being dyed in many colors...maybe...maybe it has another meaning...I'm trying to find out who he was through his songs, but it's difficult...
I feel this is one of the crucial songs to understand PowaPowaP's main struggle when he was alive: growing up and loosing "Yourself".

Even though I didn't follow his work very closely either, I've realised how much his art meant to me and now that he's gone I can't help but feel empty. I hope Siina Mota can rest in peace.
"middle-schoolers get tattoos on their arms (or maybe cut their wrists?)"
Actually, kids tend to draw on one another with marker and pens, especially in middle school and early high school. I don't think 14 year olds are getting tattoos.
Jay D. Good point, I completely forgot about that! (Oh god I'm getting old HELP) That makes much more sense.
***** In some places it's a less common thing, so I can see why it wouldn't come to mind immediately for some people.
I did
lone wolf uh, congrats?
Or like the tattoos you get in candy
from what i can tell this song is about things such as loosing innocence and growing up.
it starts off from when you are a little kid and playing around in mud puddles and toys with no cares in the world
then it goes to in middle school which is when lots of kids get confused about things like identity and experiment with different styles, such as being an athlete, goth, geek, ect.
next is high school when people begin to experiment with things such as sexual orientation, dating, and identity
then is college when people begin to experiment with drugs and begin to drink things like alcohol
the song uses color as a metaphor for things like identity and experiences, as some one grows up more and more experiences are added and turn into your personality, or in the songs case the more colors are added and mixed together
to the point where you forget what you started with
you can;t go back to your innocence just like how you can't un-mix colors
we all need to grow up eventually
and doing so makes us forget what it was like to be so pure and innocent as a young child
That make me sad hhh
This is honestly the best description I have found yet
How did i accidentally find this song in pjsk and really like it... I JUST MADE MYSELF MORE DEPRESSED SINCE WOWAKA
This is what it means to me
"The days follow in this direction"
The world continues to do this. Fit in to be accepted. To not believe in anything so you won't be hated. To agree with everyone or be told your wrong and stupid.
" High-schoolers paint color into their hair "
They change their personalities and try to grab attention. Willing to do things like dye their hair and act differently.
"Elementary-schoolers paint mud onto their faces "
They change how they look at a young age to fit in with what is beautiful.
A cheery waltz is acting like every is fine and fun when really it's not.
true..
I'm just so sad right now, I really hope that no one forgets that he existed.
You can't lose yourself if you have no "self" to lose.
I just found out about Siinamota. I'm sorry for being late. His works are truly wonderful. May he rest in peace.
one of my favourite vocaloid songs i hold close to my heart. even after so many years. rest in peace PowaPowaP
After listening to this song (and all of Siinamota-san's other works), I have to say, we lost a very talented and wonderful person. His songs are all very nice, and although I didn't know of him before this, I wish he were still here. But he's no longer here, so the only connection we can have is through his works.
aww i love these lyrics, i got really obsessed with "good bye everybody" and i knew he had passed away, and at such an early age. its sad. oi
this may be a small thing, but I realized the sample with the static at 3:03 also plays in one ok rock's "introduction" on their niche album (predates a palette full of you by about 2 years). not sure if it was originally from one ok rock or if it's simply a generic sample from somewhere else, but if it's the former then that means powapowap used to listen to the album, which the themes are about not giving up and pushing through tough times.
This song its hit me hard.... Im scared of growing up
Same tbh
Wow, my comment in 2 year ago and now im in end of college still dont know what to do

This song is so sad... ; - ; (but so pretty, the music is really strange but catchy)
Myself I don't really want to grow up, and I'm sure I can understand a bit this song and maybe Powapowa-P but to think that it make him commit this... it's so sad I can't even really trust in it...
Thank you for all the amazing music you made during those 5-6 years, your style was so unique with a beautiful meaning. May you now rest in peace Mizoguchi Ryou...
I like how this song is deceptively simple at first and then becomes complex and profound
Really going to miss PoawpoawP. He was a great producer. Fantastic song. Thanks for the subs
hit after hit ugh rip king
It's really sad that I never found out about PowapowaP until after he died. I can identify with his songs really well. I can't say I was as deeply affected by his death as others since I haven't known about him for long, but damn, his lyrics really get you thinking. Rest in peace, PowapowaP, and I hope you're in a better place than you were before.
At least the songs will live on...
How do I keep accidentally finding songs that describe my current mental situation?? I just look for things I think sound good or seem interesting
How did I forget about this song ?! It was one of my absolute favourites as a teen
I still miss you dude
it's that time of the year again.
I like how PowaPowa-P create his music like, there's always a distorted part. Rest in peace, Senpai.
Listening to this after just reaching the tail end of a pretty bad bout of depression hits pretty hard. Siinamota was my favorite vocaloid producer growing up yet as an adult I finally get the meaning of this song
Ah man.... not another great person... anything but that *cries*

I am sure I am not the only one who listens to this song countless times in the same session while getting another calm existential crisis

while listening to this song I couldn't stop shivering aaaaa
2:44 - 3:21
I like dis part
Now that I know such a great guy has been lost my heart hurts so much... *so much*
+Soup that is too hot Same.
Okay so, after being pretty addicted to this song, 2 theories came up in my mind;
1st theory is about people losing themself.
I just realised that at 3:03 to 3:05, it is the exact same noise as 0:15 in Bo Burnham's "rant." song

oml , me too
It's been 3 yrs since i find this song, i love this song.
Everything will be okey
Please don't be so worry
@@Gimggucse Thank you for the kind words!
Project sekai added 3 songs to remember everything has gone through...rest in peace. Siinamota
been listening to his songs for almost 4 years and just discovered that his songs are actually based on his feelings and experiences........hope's siinamota's happy up there,,
Quite fitting for the day before my school starts back. Amazing subs as usual, and I'm sorry to hear about PowaPowaP. This song is beautiful.
Siinamota's songs have such a deep meaning in them. . . It's so sad. . .
I love it. Rest in peace PowapowaP. Bless whatever comes after this life with the music you make. :)
This comment section is so depressing 😭
When I first heard “young girl A” it was perfect but now with all the songs to listen to… I just wished I could meet siinamota
Fun facts about PowaPowaP
His real name is Ryo (I have no idea if that’s his first name or last)
He is actually a boy (since he was called siinamota and used vocaloid it’s obvious he can get confused for a girl)
rest in peace siinamota, I loved his music.
TikTokはあまり好きではないけど、TikTokというアプリがあったおかげでこの曲をもっと多くの人に知ってもらえたことがとても嬉しい。ただ、何も知らずに軽々しく使って欲しくはないなと思ってしまう。
2:45 D-...DID THEY JUMP OFF THE ROOF!?!?
PowaPowaP was and still is a great man :)... Thank you for the translation!
The sound was from Garage Band apparently
i know this song in projeck sekai bro,now this is my new fav song😭😭💖💖
See no evil speak no evil hear no evil do no evil
+Mokou Aoshi I wouldn't worry about over thinking about this, haha. That's also a good point!
I think since she isn't doing any of the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" poses, she sees the evil, hears the evil and speaks the evil, which is the bleakness of the world outside of the childhood palette.
Oh snap that is a very good point. That would probably explain why shes a gray color.
I remember listening this as a child. Here am I. 5 years later.
3:03 just realized what she was saying there. Ouch.
Elementary schoolers paint mud onto their face:
-maybe they're playing with mud for fun?
-or maybe it means tears? (
Rip PowapowaP
man i wish i didn’t open the description, even though that was in 2015 i still got a shockwave through my body :(
Found this song right after elementary school. Now I’m going to college and it just hurts different than it did before.
my godd I forgot about this song the last part will always make me cry jsinsnd
descansa en paz joven siinamota eres grande y siempre te recordaremos R.I.P powapowaP
1:06 Lyrics went hard right here.
Did anyone else notice how each of the three girls represent the saying "do not speak, hear, or see evil"? For example the blue girl is covering her eyes, the yellow one her mouth, and the red one her ears. Thought that was interesting
I looooove the idea of this song, with all the paint and color metaphors and stuff...
This is my favourite song from him, even though I haven't heard many of his.
Sempre tenho que voltar aqui
Rest In Peace PowaPowaP. I just discovered your music today but even though I don't know your name I'll cry for you. You tried.
shit. the painting colours in first chorus hits me hard. i have done all those thing. painting mud on my face, dying my hair, paint colour on my hand. and now painting colours on my lungs. all in the same time line. shit.
Thank you for the translations!!
RIP Siinamota :(
I never have had a song make me tear up on first listening. Where has this song been all my life??
Yellow: Speak no evil
Red: Hear no evil
Blue: See no evil
Black: Do no evil
Huh, seems he passed on my birthday. Sad I didn't know of him much before his death, though his Strobe songs are some of my favorites, especially Strobe Last.
OMG he died? He was always one of my favorite vocaloid producers ever since I heard City Lights. I am genuinely upset :(
I'm obsessed with this
Help
I just found this song just to find that the artist died... I hope that The years go by know that his songs will forever be loved.
he saw the world for what it is and was braver than me and decided to opt out
Everybody around me is like "Why DON'T you like GIVE ME A RED PEN YOU FREAK DID YOU WANT RYOU TO DIE?" And I'm just like "Okay calm down....Now, I just like this one more because it applies more to my tastes. Quiet your screamings, put down the keyboard, and open your mind lol"
I wish I know about Powa early (before he passed away) but I guess it too late
There no "happen" And no "alive"
Tf ???
Powapowa P has a thing when it comes to being dyed in many colors...maybe...maybe it has another meaning...I'm trying to find out who he was through his songs, but it's difficult...
The key to understanding Powapowa's work is to understand who "you" is in his songs.
Time decides all, and it is cruel.
"It's the sound of rain
Pouring down from the sky is a sound of what color ?"
It's red, with a hint of orange.
The best part of me is 2:31 - 3:40
Aaaah I miss PowPowa P. Im sad he died. He was great
I am so so sorry
I love this song
