Super grateful for all your new uploads, they're great. btw I love that little call-out 'if your ship is hit by our missile, please take it up with the navy'

Interesting how this period safety film has a bit of a tongue-in-cheek tone about the missile safety….”chemicals left on your clothes may make you combustible around a cigarette “

🤣 The other Nuclear Vault videos are great. I just watched one where the kids were "acting" about how "CRAZY" the whole, living in constant fear of nuclear weapons is, and the parents trying to reassure them, lol. Why do kids seem smarter than adults, no matter the times?

My Uncle Jerry, who worked on the Thor missile, attended one of the launches where the missile blew up about 150 feet after liftoff, and he and 14 others jumped into his car to evade any falling debris.

This film brought back lots of cool memories. Some of those structures & buildings still existed at Vandenberg when I left back in 2005. Most of the old Atlas and Thor launch complexes are long gone, with only concrete pads left to mark where they were, with the exception of two or three Atlas launch complexes with the large metal support missile structures, they were still in place with one having been modified for early Minuteman Missile testing if I remember correctly. Most of the Reentry Vehicle training and assembly buildings were still there too. Concerning tracking and destruction, only thing that has changed is the equipment and technology has been improved, and the safety cordon's made much larger. Not sure why they used Pine Canyon Gate to bring those missiles in (From where?), but, I guess it made sense back then.

It is amazing how many of these issues are still common today. And now our public safety officials, namely the police, are viewed with disdain by half of the country, while some fire departments cannot even feel safe entering half of our cities neighborhoods. Politics trumps safety every time.

Nice music @ the end; that blunt mother 3-holer Atlas has always been my favorite, tho' Thor is a pretty lil' devil 💜. A bursting Titan looks like the benchmark 4 conventional explosions, Yippee!

Heightened Awareness at Vandenberg...Film footage scenes wide scope with riveting silo tower rocket launch fails...System Safety showcase..Heavy duty high output fluid pumps and Nozzles same as on the rockets themselves!! Film is never boring and has slightly humorous content for its extremely dangerous subjects....

I lived in Lompoc back in 2005.
Remember asking the beach attendant about the bunkers everywhere at the beach.
She said the men would hide inside them in case a missile exploded an on one case there was a miss fire and crash at Vandenberg missile base.
As at one time going to be used to launch the space shuttle as a emergency site/ alternate launch area but was not completed.

1964, when Atlas was taken off alert. They actually only had a couple on alert, almost all the pads and rockets were used for testing and training.
