Sets 1-6 of the anime were in 4:3, Set 7 onward were in 16:9.

This is probably a dumb question but does anyone know if they would play on a UK ps3?, I bought a complete collection of a series on DVD that was region 1 but it still played in the ps3

Good. They basically upscaled the DVD masters for the SD episodes, so it's just a slightly better presentation of those. Though, for some reason, the end credits weren't converted to progressive scan, so they're still interlaced.

Yes. I recommend them over the DVDs. More episodes per set, better video & audio quality, & less sets overall, so you save shelf space.
