Great film, it really shows the diversity of the route and a clear idea of what to expect on doing this challenge. The route looks awesome.

This event is for a great cause and it fills a gap in the market for me? What else do we have like it in these parts? Looking forward to it👍🏻

Just signed up for the Red Gravel Route in September. Is there any way of checking out the far Eastside of the route in advance? AS I’ve not ridden over that way at all.

Hi Ray. The ‘red’ gravel route takes you into the Southern Washlands which was also completely new to me till recently. Our website has a link to the gpx of the 260km/150 mile route featured in the film above. So you can view/download that and start exploring gravel trails at there best. (The 240km route you signed up for cuts across the Calder floodplain at Stanley Ferry whereas the other two longer routes head downstream a little to Whitwood Bridge and the Millennium Bridge but all 3 routes take you into the SW and the superb Coxley Valley). The website also has maps, photos and descriptions of all 5 routes: www.calderdividetrail.co.uk ✌️

@@yorkshiredivide I’ve looked at the website but still not found the GPX file. Could you point me in the right direction please?

The narrative suggested that the world Calder come from a Celtic route? Is this definitely true as the Old Norse world Kelda sounds similar and means spring bog or source (or at least that's what a wiki says)

I have several books on rivers and others specifically on the Calder Valley and each states that the name could derive from the Celtic for 'wild water'. The Brigante tribe ruled the north for a long stretch of time and archelgoclogical finds 5 miles from my house included a stone carving of a Celtic goddess. (Adrian)

Can you share a link to the route on strava so I can copy it?

Hi. I will do that in about three weeks when I’m back home from my bikepacking trip. There are two gpx files available from the website - www.calderdividetrail.co.uk - one for the ‘long’ 152 mile route, the second the ‘short’ 92 mile route. The ‘medium’ 124 mile option will be posted a month before the event. All gpx’s are on ‘Ride with GPS’ as I found their mapping software the most user friendly when plotting the route. I had a go at downloading onto Strava but long sections of ‘off-road’ trail kept re-routing onto road and I ran out of time to fix the Strava map. I’ll have another go when I’m back home sat in front of my kitchen PC 👍
