Well done guys. Your plans are a no-brainer. When you're taken away from what you love doing, the love slowly ebbs away. Concentrate on what you're good at, and everything will fall into place without even trying.
Go for one a week. Some of the biggest car and engineering TH-cam channels only do one a week. Best ones at it seem to be: Welderfabber Mat Armstrong (he has 2 channels to split between builds and minor updates) Saving Salvage Cutting edge engineering- he does one a week on 1 item start to finish (has got a build at part 29 but it's a massive one)
Go for it guys, 1 nice video a week will be fine, although I am always looking forward to your videos, but business comes first because that pays the bills. Good luck.
What about a John's corner, that if he's up for it, 30mins once a month what he's on with or something he's done over the years, he's got to have some useful tips.
I think the quality has been fine and personally I love your videos. Just my opinion but I think 30 min is probably the most I would go. Keep up the good work !!!
Glad your making changes . Sounds good . One comment ..........30 minutes is kind of the sweet spot for these type of video on TH-cam . From years of watching them myself and also friends comments if you make them any longer attention span of watcher drops right off and people have such busy lives these days that any longer time at one sitting is often a big ask for them . Personally I always look at the time stamp duration of a video before I even start watching it and I rarely bother with ones over 35 minutes . Not enough hours in the day and no one likes to start them and not finish them in a single sitting . Better to stick to a fixed time duration and when its up say "to be continued next week " That gives you some needed "suspense" and also a lead into the next vid quite naturally .
Whilst receptionists are an added expense, a good one can deflect unnecessary hassle away from the workshop floor, act as an intermediary between customer and company. Always remembering the company terms and conditions. More productivity will pay her wages and a maybe more.
good plan. Mayby add an fixed mouning point/rail to the sealing for some timelaps footage on 1 engine strip or build. Is less demanding and both will do some work. keep on doing the good stuff.
Well done guys. This sounds like a good plan. My personal interests are in inline motorcycle engines and pushrod auto engines but I love watching the machining and engineering of the more exotic engines you guys work on.
Change is plynging into the abyss--your longtime viewers like myself will be happy to hold hands and leap with you. I've always liked all of your videos, the honesty, the non-Hollywood production. I don't think we'll lose that. But I'm in it foe the long run, and i suspect that many others are the same. I, too, would love to see the cars your engines go into, and see what kind of power/torque figures they produce. We never get to hear those things, and this form a performance leaning engine builder. From across the big blue thing: Hang in there.
The bottom line is, you need more staff Lee. Whether its an office based person, another apprentice, or a skilled tradesman. The initial cost and stress will be greater, but long term, the benefits will pay off.
Me personally would prefer to speak to the engineer. This filling out forms online has never been for me. When looking for a particular service I always skip the businesses where there is no number and just a form etc. That’s how I am. Everybody is different
+1 for more tech work. Perhaps check out the style of Cutting Edge Engineering (CEE) in Australia? Although they do have an excellent full time camera lady who would be hard to match.
Loving the channel any way you want to present it. As others have often said, don't make a rod for your backs. On a pedantic note. When is a jig not a jig? When it's a fixture. A fixture holds work in place to be machined. It may have a datum to set tooling from but doesn't guide tooling. A jig is made with precision to guide tools into the work.
I think that's the right way to go looking forward to the different content in the new year. Maybe give less air time to trolls because any airtime just feeds them
prime reason for videos has to be business generation. How you do it is down to you. But the mgt time invested has to be proportionate. Ultimate objective has to be business security long med/long term. Glad you have reassessed the situation, this “mental health” matters (terms never used in my day!) has to be rooted in a mgt problem.
Once a week seems the way to go as you still have to run the company. You put out great content so will be looking forward to the longer ones. Hope it all goes well for the future and stay well.
Great idea guys. Always thought it would be nice to see where some of the engines end up. I would watch full engine strip down and builds. What you do with your cars and where you take them, ie car meets, track days would also be interesting. Love the channel. Thanks guys.
Some great content and boost profile would be to partner up with a engine build customer when on a Rolling road assuming someone has a finished engine running in a car by now 👍
Be careful with your plans. The joy of TH-cam for some is the bite size show, that hits the subject and finished. More importantly protect yourself and drop the pressure.
What about doing a weekly general update video, then do each build/ project in depth in 1 video as and when they are done. Love the channel, keep up the good work,
Main priority is to protect your mental health! However you have got to accept you are the face of the business and you need to be front of house, your accessibility to new customers is what brings work in the doors. I also run a small business and people expect to talk to me, you transition into the role of front of house and off the workshop floor. The secret is promise absolutely nothing over the phone, only give estimates or as i like to class them guestimates until you see the job in person and can formulate an engineering plan going forward. Take on another apprenticeship or engineer and slide into the full managerial roll. Whatever you finally decide i wish you and the team all the very best. Ohh and finally one quality video 20-30 minutes long weekly or fortnightly is more than enough
Lee I know it’s hard to ignore the hate. But just look how many hater’s there are too people who love you and isacc. You’re a very honest good person and that will always beat the hater’s in the end. And isacc is an absolute treasure to your company for hes age. Look after him and never let him leave, such a dedicated young fellow is impressive!👌👌
Good idea to cut down the frequency of videos - trying to shoot and edit 3 per week can be very stressful keeping to schedule, even for someone not doing a fulltime job as well !
Lee, think about doing two a week, do a short one on Monday, 10 or 12 mins. to outline what's coming up in the week ahead. Then on Friday a long one detailing what you accomplished. Generally though I think you've got a good plan for going forward, carry on McDuff.
I think i said cut down 2 per week max , one at the beginning of the week saying what you are going to do and then do a review at the end of the week to cover the weeks work.
Love your videos and will continue to watch whatever you do. For me about 40 mins is good as I prefer to watch a complete episode rather than pause part way through as other pressures mount! There has been no content to date I haven't enjoyed even the challenges of "try on customers" and we all get them, seeing you learning to be more "streetwise" and also learning from you.Issac is a real asset and so keen - very rare these days.
It's amazing what a pair of fresh eyes can do for your business. I look forward to the better & more in depth content. As a suggestion, keep the phone handy, whip it out, film a little bit & put it as a short.
Great Video Guys, Lee when we drop our liners in we always put a heavy weight on top of the liner straight away because they tend to bounce when dropped in and I found it difficult to press them home once cold , just a thought mate.
I have been concerned about Lee for a bit and support his ideas about pulling back on direct contact (and warts and all) coverage. I love watching the many episodes per week but I feel Lee's health trumps quantity. Love those guys (and John too). love g
Lee, John and Isaac do what you can when you can. You need to remember that the business is the priority not TH-cam. Even though we love the content we would rather see you doing well then stressed with issues.
I do feel sorry for Isaac very nice young man seems like he just wants to get on with a job rather than the drama and Lee’s problems and I’m not a troll, it’s just my opinion things seem to have changed dramatically and I can’t quite get my finger on it
Suggest caution with longer videos unless content calls for it. eg. Vice Grip Garage can do 1.5 hrs BUT content is totally engaging throughout. Discard waffle as per Salvage Rebuild UK. Good luck.
Am I to assume that to give Lee even more of a comfort zone , he is going to be fitted with a Borg upgrade on his right hand , with the twiddly bits. (a given )That liner was to get him used to the feel of it ? 😂
Said it a while back you need someone to book in / manage and filter calls and queries … then you allocate YOUR time and more importantly WHEN you want to deal with them (mbe allocate an afternoon per week and do in bulk) and not when you midway through resleeving a block. 30 min vid 1 x week is perfect.
Like the idea of 1 or possibly 2 videos a week. I did comment suggesting that a few months ago. I'd say up to 40 mins is about the max you want to be doing.
I watched the first minute of that, don't know if I will watch anymore, I used to watch it to see you building engines, don't know what it's about now.
I think change is a good thing for you and your business because people don’t realise how hard it is for you to run a successful business and over the last year or so people only want to pass comments on things they don’t know anything about because they think it’s cool to write something negative and that in my opinion has taken away from what you’re channel is all about because I would rather watch an honest channel that doesn’t just post about the good things that are going on in the workplace because it’s a breath of fresh air to see people going about their business and being honest with their viewers and their customers but some people can’t understand that so they jump on the bandwagon and you guys don’t deserve any negative feedback from your channel because you’re loyal customers know that they are getting the best for their money so people don’t let a few stupid comments get in the way of your business coming first and it’s probably because they are jealous it’s a typical way that social media has become but just remember that you didn’t get to where you are right now because you don’t have the knowledge or experience you know how good you guys are so please don’t let anyone get you down mate
One a week is more achievable Lee. Love watching it but I did think you might burning the candle at both ends . As for the haters ignore them mate . You’re doing what they could never achieve.
I do out of focus drunk video`s fixing old starter motors etc. I try to show the process from start to finish. Love it when someone says thanks for showing where that washer went lol etc. Might take a long video for a detailed engine rebuild.
All sounds good but if the videos are too long, you may lose views. I followed a similar channel but when his videos became 40+ minutes or longer, I moved on to other content. I can only speak for me and my preferences but bear in mind the attention span of viewers. I will still follow your channel and see how it goes.
In my view and this is a highly controversial one! Lee and Issac should swop roles for a 3 month period …,,chain lee to the engines and get Issac to do lees jobs I’m sure the business will become more productive and wise Issac will problem solve as he goes Lee step back Issac step up let’s see what happens
Yours is a really good channel but it’s hard to keep up with the constant videos. One episode around 30-40 minutes a week gives us something we can sit down and enjoy rather than constantly checking in case we miss an episode and subsequently miss a part of one of the stories we’re following. You’ve made the right decision, good luck..
You should have got a Panasonic gh6 etc for videos, very well respected for vlogging, plus one good pro lens. I would try 2x 20min videos a week, reason being I read a long time ago people’s attention begins to wain after that time. All the best though, and I think a lot healthier 😊.

That boy's worth his weight in gold Lee mate and he looks like big boy,he's more than just an apprentice ,what a good lad too have in your corner
Keep it real people like it as it is your a engine builder not a production company. We like normal everyday life.
Well done guys. Your plans are a no-brainer. When you're taken away from what you love doing, the love slowly ebbs away. Concentrate on what you're good at, and everything will fall into place without even trying.
Isaac has a very wise head for such a young person. Nice one.
The main reason I'm here all the time is to see how you are machining stuff and what goes bang and why on different engines.
Go for one a week. Some of the biggest car and engineering TH-cam channels only do one a week.

Whilst receptionists are an added expense, a good one can deflect unnecessary hassle away from the workshop floor, act as an intermediary between customer and company. Always remembering the company terms and conditions. More productivity will pay her wages and a maybe more.
Just a suggestion, have a look at an engineering co ‘ cutting edge engineering’ an Aussie firm, Tis good detailed work and vlog.
Kurtis is brilliant, and his YT channel is ever growing too, especially with links to Adam Savage.
Good suggestion that.
I've been following kurtis for years now. Can't wait for 8am fridays
good plan.
Mayby add an fixed mouning point/rail to the sealing for some timelaps footage on 1 engine strip or build.
Is less demanding and both will do some work.
keep on doing the good stuff.
I'd love to see some time lapse engine strip downs. 💪👍
And rebuilds.
Well done guys. This sounds like a good plan. My personal interests are in inline motorcycle engines and pushrod auto engines but I love watching the machining and engineering of the more exotic engines you guys work on.
Lee you are very lucky to have such a young man with an adult head on hid shoulders+ technical ability and a good business head.
I've said as much before, hes quite a find for a small business
Change is plynging into the abyss--your longtime viewers like myself will be happy to hold hands and leap with you. I've always liked all of your videos, the honesty, the non-Hollywood production. I don't think we'll lose that. But I'm in it foe the long run, and i suspect that many others are the same.

Was going to say the same thing colin, very good channel
Loving the channel any way you want to present it. As others have often said, don't make a rod for your backs.

A fixture holds work in place to be machined. It may have a datum to set tooling from but doesn't guide tooling. A jig is made with precision to guide tools into the work.
Don’t set a target that then ends causing pressure and subsequently stress. Just pick and choose and go for the quality
I think that's the right way to go looking forward to the different content in the new year. Maybe give less air time to trolls because any airtime just feeds them
prime reason for videos has to be business generation. How you do it is down to you. But the mgt time invested has to be proportionate. Guys it’s your show, we stay because you’re smashing the content and banter. 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘
Once a week seems the way to go as you still have to run the company. You put out great content so will be looking forward to the longer ones. Hope it all goes well for the future and stay well.
As a regular watcher, I'd like to see more actual work and a little less chat about completed jobs ready to ship.
Great idea guys. Always thought it would be nice to see where some of the engines end up. I would watch full engine strip down and builds. What you do with your cars and where you take them, ie car meets, track days would also be interesting. Love the channel. Thanks guys.
Use liquid dry ice on the inserts. They will fall right in.
Good idea. Film as you go, and upload when you have enough material.
Some great content and boost profile would be to partner up with a engine build customer when on a Rolling road assuming someone has a finished engine running in a car by now 👍
The changes to come sound very good 👍👍👍
Be careful with your plans. The joy of TH-cam for some is the bite size show, that hits the subject and finished. More importantly protect yourself and drop the pressure.
Spot on.
ever thought of using plumbers freeze on the liners to shrink them
What about doing a weekly general update video, then do each build/ project in depth in 1 video as and when they are done.

How about a full rebuild from start to finish, time lapsed?
It would be great to see a series on just one job start to finish. Especially if you get unusual or interesting engines. Please!
Meanwhile Lee the iron man, has his hand stuck in a baked bean tin
A nice video to watch on a boring Sunday afternoon.
Lee I know it’s hard to ignore the hate. But just look how many hater’s there are too people who love you and isacc. You’re a very honest good person and that will always beat the hater’s in the end. Issac talks a lot of sense, especially for his age.

Hi Two a week & around 15 to 20 Mins - with no click bait! Bills
I think i said cut down 2 per week max , one at the beginning of the week saying what you are going to do and then do a review at the end of the week to cover the weeks work.
RE liner insertion, put the liners in a fridge or even better freezer and they will literally drop in with the increased clearance.
Love your videos and will continue to watch whatever you do. For me about 40 mins is good as I prefer to watch a complete episode rather than pause part way through as other pressures mount! May I just say ? You seem to be back in to your old happy place and making good progress and content. Issac is a really great Guy.
It's amazing what a pair of fresh eyes can do for your business. I look forward to the better & more in depth content.
As a suggestion, keep the phone handy, whip it out, film a little bit & put it as a short.
What about liquid nitrogen for the liners? No need to mess about with heating...
Be nice to see the cars the cozzys go in
Great Video Guys, Lee when we drop our liners in we always put a heavy weight on top of the liner straight away because they tend to bounce when dropped in and I found it difficult to press them home once cold , just a thought mate.

Lee, I have enjoyed your content over the years, keep it going.
With a longer , more in-depth approach. Engine build to the customer having it in their vehicle and then a road test would be really interesting
Why not freeze the liners similar to installing roller/ball bearings in alloy? Faster and more accurate.
Then they can,t charge you as much!!
You have reached the point salvage rebuilds did. They went from 3 to 2 a week, and I feel their channel is better for it.
Ye doing a great job.follow ur gut.
A longer video with a mixted bag of content sounds like a plan.
Who doesn't love a pick and mix..
👍
Keep up the good work guys.love the content
Finally the panelling getting done 🎉
Lee, John and Isaac do what you can when you can. You need to remember that the business is the priority not TH-cam. Even though we love the content we would rather see you doing well then stressed with issues.
I do feel sorry for Isaac very nice young man seems like he just wants to get on with a job rather than the drama and Lee’s problems and I’m not a troll, it’s just my opinion things seem to have changed dramatically and I can’t quite get my finger on it
Great idea for a single, longer video.

Fucking hell Lee you look like a new man, Bright eyed & Bushy tailed "Have you given Mrs Lee also a smile too" LMAO 😉 😂
An hour long video 1 a week woukd be spot on
One a week is more achievable Lee. Love watching it but I did think you might burning the candle at both ends . As for the haters ignore them mate . You’re doing what they could never achieve.
1 a week is fine Lee, Issac is gold, more machining & assembly.
As long as you keep it real and the company still comes across as approachable, just put something out, when you have content & time to do so.
I do out of focus drunk video`s fixing old starter motors etc. I try to show the process from start to finish. Love it when someone says thanks for showing where that washer went lol etc. Might take a long video for a detailed engine rebuild.
Great ideas!
Yes we want to see more engine strip downs.
All sounds good but if the videos are too long, you may lose views. I followed a similar channel but when his videos became 40+ minutes or longer, I moved on to other content. I can only speak for me and my preferences but bear in mind the attention span of viewers. I will still follow your channel and see how it goes.
Sounds like a good idea.one video a week is fine by me.
Thought you had become surgically attached to the liner😂
Great job to you both
Good plan on the videos, that will be brilliant.
Have you considered a part time book keeper or alike to take some of the paperwork pressure of you?
My friend, if you would ditch the clickbait type titles I think your channel would grow tremendously. Something to consider.
Good idea 👍
Quality, not quantity every time.n
Go for quality over quantity every time, you will enjoy making the videos more and i look forward to seeing them, cheers guys.
In my view and this is a highly controversial one! Lee and Issac should swop roles for a 3 month period …,,chain lee to the engines and get Issac to do lees jobs
I’m sure the business will become more productive and wise Issac will problem solve as he goes
Lee step back Issac step up let’s see what happens
Videos on the work and what you do would be good id personally like to see more practical stuff videos I could learn stuff from if that's would be possible
Limited videos is fine by me, and Merry Christmas to you all from Canada.
Have a look at the ashville channel and how those episodes are put together. I have always enjoyed the way there put together small clips over the week and put together like a diary and edited together into one longer episode and the end of every week.
Sounds like a good plan. 2025, let’s go.
OK Lee, er I mean OK Barum Engines, another slant on the videos might be that currently you show where you are this week with engine A B C & D; maybe shoot all the weekly work through the builds, but edit at the end to produce "Here's the story of engine A from day 1 to finish" content. Then next time engine B's story etc?
Good to hear 🎉
Don't lose the personal touch actively making yourself unavailable will be damaging to your business customers want the reassurance from speaking with you at the least you need to make yourself available when handing engines back that personal touch is key. I personally think your over thinking things. I also think this video will bring unwanted comments but don't take anything personally.
Work smarter not harder chaps
John came in on his horse at 7 minutes lol 😂 LEE GET A GOOD RECEPTIONIST WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD 👍
