Thank you for the feedback. Dogs will give calming signals all the time, it depends on the context. Calming signals are usually paired with a "Distance Increasing" or a "Distance Decreasing" sign. So for example, the dog has soft eyes and gives a flip of the tongue, this means "Get Closer Gently". On the other hand, the dog looks away and does the same tongue flick, now it means "Get Away or Else". The context is important: - So if the dog gives a warning when being tormented, then yes, one should move away (You would see this when a kid is jumping on the back of a dog for example). -On the other hand, if the dog gives this signal because someone walks into the room... then this warrants some investigation and probably behavioral work. Hope this helps :)
I've always been baffled by how we as humans with our big wrinkly brains insist on "talking" to animals using our own language, or even try to get them to learn our spoken language. We're the smart ones, we should be learning their language!
Great vid, I am a new puppy owner and this helps a lot to understand the little fella. Honestly the only issue I have is that understanding individual calming signals seems tough. My pup will sometimes sniff the floor but I learned that usually means he needs the bathroom, I also see him sometimes showing the white of his eyes in the car and I am honestly baffled is this anxiety or him just looking around- he is calm otherwise. What I'm getting at is could you make a more vids with examples of singular signals and how to tell fear apart and most importantly what to do to help/ calm the little bud. It might be because I never owned a dog previously so its harder to tell apart the hints he gives me, but I would be super grateful if you could fallow up with either more examples or how to calm the dog when he is showing said symthomps. Thanks for the great vid! :D
Hello Pati 17, thank you for your comment. Your observations are correct. Take yawning as another example, it can mean that the dog is genuinely sleepy, and it could also mean calm down. The general idea in psychology is to keep in mind that there are no black and white answers. And yes, I will work on a new video. Do you want to help? We always need cute videos of puppies!
great content!! thanks to share your expérience
Thank you for taking the time to leave your comment, much appreciated ❤
Wonderfull video, I will watch more for sure. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video with examples. So, what we should do when we see those signals? Just go away and do not disturb the dog?
