Class in USA is about money. In UK, it has nothing to do with money. Mickey is loaded but he will always be working class. If the king lost all his wealth tomorrow, he’d still be upper class. It’s about waaaaaay more than money.
UK class isn’t about money, it’s about background, schooling, cultural pursuits and much more. A lecturer, in Dublin, once told us that the working class live for now, to enjoy and experience, but the middle class are all about differed gratification - study hard and it will come, graduate and it will come, then sacrifice much of your potential joy, to pay for the kids to succeed. (It’s not actually that bad 😂) Upper class are like the working class - fun now and always, and someone else can look after the kids. Flanagan and Kay are the current best UK comedians. Tommy Tiernan is the best Irish one. Love your channels ❤️👍🏽👍☘️

Class relates to how much money you have and where you got it from. Inherited wealth makes you upper class. If you acquired or came by your money you don't become upper class.
Class is not based on money in the UK. I know many people who earn a typical 'middle class' salary who will always refer to themselves as working class. Even if you are wealthy beyond belief, nobody will ever refer to you as upper class if you have not inherited your money or property. They will simply be a working/middle class person who has 'done well for themselves'. If you make a lot of money and try to emulate the upper class lifestyle (old properties, land rovers, etc) you'll simply be referred to as a social climber or nouveau riche if they're being kind 😂
Tesco is one of our well known grocery stores, others are Asda, Sainsbury's, Aldi. Lidl, Morrisons. A fiver is slang for 5 pounds, for bread that is expensive. Tomato sauce is ketchup. Micky is from Whitechapel in London, fun fact that is the place where jack the ripper did his murders. Try Lee Evans or Billy Connolly both hilarious. 😂
Micky is originally from The East End of London, which is, traditionally, the poorest part of London. Very sensibly he crossed the mighty River Thames to my South East London to a Middle Class Area in Dulwich. So like me, he is London, ENGLAND, UK, Europe in that order.

Just after our recent election, there was a big debate when the incoming government admitted that there WOULD be tax rises, but that they would not affect " the workers " [ or " working class " ]. This lead to all sorts of discussions about what salary was necessary to shift from 'working class' to 'middle class'. Truth is, it's not about something as simple as rate of pay, or annual salary, individual or combined.
I’ve heard many Brits in my life but I have to say I struggled getting half of this. That accent was strong. After rewinding 6 or 7 times I finally just said “ah screw it” I’ll pick up what I pick up.
The traditional classes in the UK are upper class, which means being part of the aristocracy, middle class, which is either being a land owner or a professional such as doctor, teacher, lawyer etc or a company director. Everyone else is working class.
growing up we were middle class at 35k a year .. when I was working 50k was lower middle now .. forget about it .. thats one reason I'm fighting too keep my house from being stolen thru fraud .. ONE DAY i'm gonna be a news article
Micky is from the UK, he's a cockney. Meaning he's from the Eastend of London. Incidentally they have their own slang, called cockney rhyming slang. There are a few videos explaining this on TH-cam and I think you'd find it interesting. Although this slang is a cockney invention it is widely spoken throughout the UK, my family use some of it quite often and we live 200 miles from London.
Class in the UK isn't something that money can really buy you. You could have billions, buy yourself a country estate, send your children to the right schools, socialise in the right circles, but the upper class will still look at you like an outsider playing dress-up.
Re' your comments on comedy in the UK vs the US. I think you have it the wrong way round. I find most American humour to be incredibly tame. Even the supposedly 'risqué' US standups don't seem particularly risqué tbh and US sitcoms and tv comedy generally comes across as pretty safe, formulaic and unoriginal. There are a few exceptions of course but, generally speaking, British comedy seems much darker, edgier and much more diverse. TV comedy especially. For things like dark humour, irony, satire, surreal comedy, wit and wordplay, I don't think there are many countries that can match the UK. Ireland possibly? Another advantage is that swearing isn't censored as much as in America. Things like Monty Python, Blackadder, Ideal, The IT Crowd, Inside Number Nine, The League of Gentlemen, Absolutely Fabulous,The Mighty Boosh etc would never have been made in the US. Partly because US shows tend to have teams of writers, while in the UK a show will typically just have 1 or 2 writers, who are often the stars of the shows too. It makes for a much more varied and imaginative scene. When it comes to sketch shows and panel shows it's not even a contest and the UK has some of the biggest standups in the World! Tbh, I find most of the big name American standups to be not that funny. American animated comedies are better though Wallace and Gromit is still brilliant! :)
He's from east London BTW and the east end is definitely more common (projects like) then the richer west end, although London for the most part, has richer and poorer areas way more mixed than anywhere in the US has.
Yes Tesco is a supermarket in the UK and a "fiver" is slang for £5 which as of the time I'm writing this converts to $6.32. I'm not sure if that's a lot in America but realistically an en expensive loaf of bread in Cambridge (where I live in the UK) should cost maybe £2 MAXIMUM!!

Class is more to do with who you were born to and your level of education. You can have poor upper class and really wealthy lower class (dont like that term) The middle class are usually quite well educated with a reasonable income.
Money isn’t so much the measure of class in fact once you mention money it takes you down at least to lower middle. If you show no embarrassment it makes you working class.
