Releasing a patch like that after it's been reviewed should be considered some sort of fraud. Especially if they purposely waited till after the reviews were out AND shut the game down to do so
Agreed. It should be a violation of consumer protection laws. When you purchase any good, you're buying it as it was, at the moment you purchased it. If the product is then changed and made so that the original version is unobtainable through legal means, then you should have a right to a refund.
It's pretty much Bait and Switch. I'm sure they can weasle their way out by saying stuff like "Well as a Live Service we are always developing and data indicated we needed a patch" but honestly, it's a Bait and Switch.
Never fails to amaze me how companies are like "Welp, we're going to immediately fuck you over and change this one thing really easily, buuuuuut when you all get pissed off, we're gonna REALLY take our sweet ass time actually doing anything to alleviate it, even though it's a problem we ourselves created and could easily fix by just undoing that first fix we did".
I think legit the reason for that is they say that just to buy time, see if the fallout stops, if it doesn't, they might change it, but with much else, wait until it only are embers left and stomp it out and continue to milk the few whales they have left.
Greed. That's why you shouldnt support gaming companies like this. Gamers need to learn from their mistakes or the same thing will keep happening over and over....
Wait until they "adjust" the prices back again, it will be way cheaper but still more expensive than the original price... therefore reaching their end goal of fking you up
I like how we still call them “micro” transactions, but some of these cars cost as much as a real world full tank of gas. By this point, they’re not micro, they’re just full blown transactions.
It's bonkers. I was just debating spending 6$ on an 85% off steam sale, and yet this game has *30$* for ONE CAR in the game. ...there are not enough swear words in all the languages for this... state of affairs.
@@teamhex Calling it "micro-transactions" made sense when you were buying a boost for a mobile game for 30 cents. Nowadays "in-game" or "in-app purchase" or "real-money transaction" (RMT) works better. Although I do like the Retro Gaming Nerd's idea above of just going with "macro-transaction" to highlight how anti-consumer these practices are. Releasing a game for reviewers and a different game for customers weeks later should be enough to get a decade-long ban from the media AND they should be sued for false advertising, since reviews are a major (if not THE most important) way costumers evaluate products.
The gaslighting companies do when they use terms like “confused” to describe backlash from people who understand perfectly well what is going on, like nails on chalk board.
Yeah, the "Oh you don't like what we are doing? Clearly that just means you're too stupid to understand our greatness" is almost worse than the shit they're doing.
It amazes me these dev teams can find a video of players finding a loophole in malicious design and within 24 hours have a patch out to nerf it to hell. But when this happens it "takes time".
Like with BioWare in regard to Anthem. Players were having fun with a “bug” that had enemies dropping items at a bit of a higher rate, whereas before, it was such a low rate. BioWare heard about it and patched that shit immediately. But they were moving slow and saying “it takes time” to fix the bugs, loading times, and lack of content.
this is not "dev" teams. this is marketing and producers. devs just make the panel where producers basically enter the numbers. please stop calling devs on the stupidity of producers/game designers and marketing. also: if you (players) stop paying for it, they will stop doing it game analytics is there, metacritic score doesn't mean shit when the currency accounts are goiing sky high. gamers/players of this age should get their shit together, this is not on devs that i know for sure. devs are the ones getting crunched, devs are the ones getting not paid for the overtime they do, devs are not the ones driving the million dollar cars or living in billion dollar houses.
@King of The Zinger Sorry to bring it to you, but that is the other extreme and it sucks almost (!) as much. Absolutely no feeling of reward/gratification in that.
The upper limit on the wallet makes no sense if they still allow you to purchase credits beyond that limit. I also like how they make it sound like an amazing thing to increase rewards by 100%. Seeing they lowered some races by 66% in the first place, raising those rewards by 100% after the 66% cut still leaves them 31% below the original reward value. Greenwood was 35k then 12k so with the 100% it's 24k. Seeing the original rewards were feeling borderline grindy already, that 100% is not good enough.
@@kimjuanjun7124 Exactly. As long as people buy the games, it's not going to stop. As our lord and savior Todd Howard said: "If you want us to stop re-releasing Skyrim, stop buying it."
The most insulting aspect of these kinds of ‘apologies’ is how thickly every word is dripping with contempt. The entire message hinges on their perception of their consumer base as drooling morons. The greed and intent behind what they did is so obvious, so brazen, and so plain to see to anyone with a functioning frontal lobe that even releasing this statement is a testament to their utter contempt. I’d sooner give my money to the dealer on the corner then these people. The hubris is sickening.
"It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission," is the new business model. Obliterate the game experience with microtransactions to take advantage of the people who will buy the ridiculous items, then back off and make slight changes if they receive backlash. Halo Infinite, anything Ubisoft, now Gran Turismo. Expect this to go on for quite a while.
@@AngelOfDæth_4 bungies MO makes sense, they want to try something but it doesn’t work. At least their store is reasonable and consistent, and earnable. Bungie is the example of what your consumers can do if they actually stand against something.
I would personally stop playing the game, sell it, get it refunded and move on. To many good games out there, stop defending these con artists. Hit them in the pocket and walk away. It’s the only way to stop this shit
The problem is that once you buy it retail they already have your money. People don't buy individual games from the publishers. Retail stores buy games in bulk and then when players go out into the stores to buy copies, the store orders more to replenish stock. That's why publishers want those month 1 sales to go super fast. Because that's when they make the most of their money and they can tell their investors that the game was a success. That's also why they push pre-order bonuses. To tempt players into buying a game before it even releases to ensure those early dollars. If you buy a game, decide you hate it, and bring it back, it doesn't go back to the publisher. It just goes in a used games bin at a discounted price so the store can get some of its money back. But by then the damage has already been done. Barring a large outcry, the publisher has already walked away with its success story. People want this to stop? Stop pre-ordering games.
@@elevate07 True to that but in order to have a live service game , game has to be alive. If people stopped playing this garbage, Sony would learn the lesson very quickly. Instead after blog post and update, players wanked each other on reddit, praising PD for how great developer they are to listen to the community. PD tried to rob me in broad daylight so I sold the game and will never buy anything from them again!
There is a whole generation that have now grown up with lootboxes, micro transactions, skins trading (gambling for children). I am afraid of the consequences of how they have normalised it all. Unfortunately, there will be a small audience that will spend a substantial amount of money in the game that it will all pay off for Sony no matter what the backlash. I was behind a public bus in traffic the other day and there was an ad about problem gambling for children.... That blew me away! That our society has stopped so low that we can't even protect children from the adult gaming (pokies etc..) industry
This is why so many people defend this crap, they've literally grown up with it. They've never known a gaming industry where you're not expected to pay for every breath your character takes. They don't know what it's like to actually be the one spending the money. They think it's "entitlement" to expect games to not nickel and dime you every ten seconds
Wait until we have to pay to continue playing again with only 3 free credits every 24 hours. Back to arcade machines, but way way worse... We have to buy the machine and don't make the profit.
This was done by design. They will scale it back to an 'acceptable' level where people give in but that will actually be there intended level of mtx. They overly inflated it at the start so the real level will seem like them doing players a favour. Shady af disgusting practices. Add that studio to the blacklist along with ubisoft and ea.
They will fall back to shady tactics after fixing it for some time, but I doubt it will gain PR and a legacy of hate like Fallout 76. Also, isn't the Online DRM like what happened with the 1st Titanfall? I bought the game on release way back in the 360 era, but didn't have Xbox Live hooked up, so it was unplayable. At least I got a refund for it then.
@@shockz1715 Titanfall 1 was an online only experience, there wasn't any kind of single player content, unlike GT7 where there's singleplayer content, but for some stupid reason is locked behind a online conection
This is all so textbook now: 1. Release an appealing version of the game to reviewers to generate positive buzz and early adoption. 2. Introduce brazenly egregious monetization scheme and wait for backlash to reach a fever pitch. 3. Announce that you've "Listened to the feedback" and roll back the changes to the levels you originally intended all along. They've got it down to a schedule. I'll be you could actually clock the timing of these controversies now. This is just the tried and true "Door in face" technique. You have a product that is worth $10.00. You want to get paid $20.00 because you'd rather make twice the profit for no reason. What do you do? Why you offer to sell it for $40.00! When the customer balks at your ridiculous price, you agree and offer them the much more reasonable price of $30.00. When they hesitate, you tell them you can see they're a tough negotiator and offer to sell it to them for just $20.00, because you like them so much. Why that's 50% off your original asking price! It must be a good deal. Never mind that without that original offer of $40.00 fresh in your mind, you would've rejected $20.00 as the absurd 100% mark-up that it is. Everyone that has been blasting them for this, needs to keep all barrels blazing until they back all the way off to what they actual sent to reviewers. When they don't do it, ACTUALLY vote with your wallet and DON'T BUY THE GAME OR ANY OF THE MICRO-TRANSACTIONS!
Here's the thing that everyone seems to be forgetting For now it's all good if they fix the game with a future patch because we can all connect and pull it from the server. But in the future, when the servers are down it doesn't really matter what updates they shipped because that server won't be there anymore and all well be left with is a coaster that says GT7. The v 1.0 that shipped in that disc relies on it to run. Remove the server, the game dies. In a single player racing game, this is unacceptable
@@lordspalse0062 "I'll never buy the game", then next sentence is "I'll buy the game"... ? If you want to vote with your wallet AND play the game, ignore sales and buy the disc second hand (that way none of your cash goes to Sony)
Tbf, they could patch the "always online" element at the end of the game's "life cycle" to make it playable despite the servers being shut down. Emphasis on "couuld". It's an option. But seeing how some companies even don't give a shyte about game preservation, I doubt it will happen. And yes, for someone who has no internet connection, the GT7 disc would be a coaster anyway, since he can't play it now and wouldn't be able to download the patch at the end. What has gaming become...
I’m really disappointed in so many people across this space that proclaim that Polyphony and Sony have fixed all of their problems. As long as this game is always online we will all continue to have problems and they will always have us by the balls. Stand up and demand that you own the game you paid for!
@@Jonathanloh1992 I mean, considering what everyone has done, very few are clear of doing bullshit. Even Elden Ring had a terrible port to PC (though i play in ps4 so i can't speak for myself. Such a shame for a game that brought - An entire generation into car guys - *Was an advocate of 3D racing* - Added weight to cars - Had a passionate developer - Was at a time when every car game was 2D or cartoony. Such a shame to become a pile of monetisation.
I hate it when companies apologizes for the "confusion" as of their consumers are dumb people and it was the consumers fault that they didn't understand what the company did. NO, there was no confusion. Sony/Polyphony tried to take advantage of its consumers and there was no doubt about it.
it's really disappointing and upsetting seeing great franchises like GT devolve into an agressively monetized husk of what it used to be. corporate greed is a true monster
Gran Turismo was one of the few franchises that made me miss my console sometimes. After seeing what they've done to it, I owe them a big thanks for helping me get over that feeling.
Do not assume them doing this was good will. The backlash was strong enough to warrant a class action suit for false advertising on at least the fact they advertised the ability to sell cars in then description of the game yet the mechanic didn't exist until they got caught with their pants down.
The government does this same tactic with your rights and laws. Slowly take bit by bit away until it directly affects you and then backlash starts and they return some rights but less than you had to begin with hoping no one noticed
It almost feels like there needs to be a law put in place where developers are not allowed to release a game altering patch within a month of release without first offering players a full refund.
Needs to be even stricter than that imo. Allow games to be refunded after any major patch, this would keep the companies on their toes as they could actually LOSE money at any point en masse.
That is why most people have started applying this 'rule' without waiting for the law to catch up. Fight back against your own FOMO, wait a month after release, and THEN decide if you really want to buy the game. The beautiful thing about this greedy publishers is they have less patience than you when it comes to money. You only need a month, sometimes even just two weeks before shit hits the fan. Let the streamers/reviewers purchase games on your behalf, and see if you're willing to forgive any shortcomings that comes up (sometimes it's just minor bugs, sometimes the games just doesn't play like you expect, sometimes it's something major like MTX).
I think we are at the point that we need something like "revised reviews" being integral part of reviewing process. This bait and switch tactics happens way to often.
i don't know about any major games journalism websites, but a lot of smaller creators on TH-cam will give updated (3-12 month later) reviews on the state of a game. considering how hard i've ditched preorders as a whole, seeing a fully updated game a few months after launch, and the real state of it, is a good purchase point.
@@Gwynhyvr Yea but you are talking about reviews that are sometimes years after release. I mean something that happens instantly. You have like "original score" and next to it "revised score" that is made AS SOON AS THESE MICROTRANSACTIONS HIT. It happens very often couple of weeks after release. After a year of waiting only fraction of people still care about said game usually. Reviews of "patched up" games is a bit different story than this.
@@Diegoshadow85 agreed. it'd be pretty awesome if a larger platform somehow could, but i imagine they'd be under instant fire by game companies, unfortunately.

They just wanted to see how far they can push it this year. No matter what, the same people complaining will buy the next one without flinching. They learn, gamers don't.

Thank you for not buying into their corporate BS. Sadly many people are. And raising prizes by 100% still won't get them back to their initial, already grindy, payout. Because some prices were cut down by more than a half in that patch which nerfed everything. They think we cannot do math.
Same with graphics cards. If nobody would buy cards at €1600, prices would drop. People are just too stupid t buy at these prices, especially for things they don’t need.

Spot on Yong. Been with Grand Turismo from the start. Almost. Played GT 1 on a friend's son's ps1. Was blown away! I have all of the gt's except for special editions that I didn't know came out. I am now an old kid (68 years old) and have been a rabid fan. I have spent, I think, literally thousands of hours over the years, enjoying something not possible in real life. Driving cars I'll never own as fast as I can on race tracks that I'll never see. This blatant money grab is DEEPLY hurtful. After all these years of loyalty, I'm rewarded by stupendously pricing cars that we love and have had access to by earning credits, back to out of reach fantasies. Payed over $90 for the game. Yep, I got the 25th Aniversary edition and stupidly paid 10 bucks for another million credits so I could get the Aston Martin Valkrey. Thought I would get that dream car then I could drive my way to more cars and upgrades. What a slap in the face to see the 1.09 update and find out what they did. Anniversary edition. $90. 25 years of eagerly awaiting every release. Read statement from them somewhere that was critical of other game mtx. Then THIS! What about those fans that $70 is a ton of money? Then they have to painfully come up with more money to get good cars. What if they wanted a steering wheel and a rig (or tabletop) to attach it to. They knew. It was discussed. Decisions were made. Stick it to them and see how loud they squeal. Well bitches we sqealed!
i stopped with Gran Turismo on the ps3 but still, i don't get it. This sounds like a free to play and pay to win title. Why should we buy this if its clearly a free to play title? No one values loyal customers. never pre order, never buy new. i am 47 years old and all i buy are small indie titles, most after they finish or crowdfund for small money. Almost all mainstream titles are not worth the money, maybe because half of the costs are spent on advertising costs.
this 67 year old totally agrees with your sentiments my friend, i too got the 25 year version, ps5, and psn, ps5 at launch just for this game, now they want more money from me, not going to happen. I wish i could turn the clock back to gt1, simpler times, buy game, play game, no bull, greed will finish them, and that would be sad to see, but self inflicted and deserved.
i stopped at GT2, i sold my ps1 cuz i asked my self why buy a console when they make games we play on a fking PC, let's buy a pc and use the fking pc instead
One thing which a lot of people may have missed was the ability to actually receive cars as prizes as well as credits. Races or championships which would reward cars upon completion multiple times, not just once. It was these races which were grind-worthy and gave us the ability to buy and tune up whatever we wanted. Remember the Tuscan Speed 12? Not only do they need to drastically increase credits for racing, but they need to bring back cars as prizes. Currently just being able to 'discard' vehicles is stupid.
"We hear that you hate our microtransactions so we give you your first hit free in the hope that you shut the fuck up and buy more, you cretins" is what I see from this story.
Unfortunately, there are cretins who buy and end up ruining the majority's experience just because they will spend a shit ton of $$$ in microtransactions.
"Geoffrey, the peasants are revolting. And I'm not talking about their smell. Give them some free microtransactions to shut them up, there's a good chap."
Really making people who don't engage with the mictrotransactions feel like second-hand citizens, aren't they? The fact that in-game currency is capped makes this reek more like a mobile game than a AAA videogame you paid full price for. Absolutely disgusting. These companies have all lost the sight of what gaming is about, treating everything like a way to milk players recurrently, for the rest of time.
We have become aware of an issue where players might not want to patch to the latest nerfed patch, so we have decided always online DRM will be required to make sure everyone is on the latest nerfed payout reward, this is to ensure your maximum compliance with the paid mictrotransaction system, thank you for your support
We've gone from, pay to win, to gambling, to literal fraud. What's next, really? I'm not even scared, I lost all interest in AAA gaming, from a while to be honest.

What's stupendous is that the *REVIEW COPIES* of the game, as in, the version video game review outlets got, had *NOTHING* like this. Literally it was _just_ the game. So, they *knew* how this would be received. They *knew* this would effect sales. They *KNEW* people wouldnt like it. But. They dont need you to like the game you BOUGHT. You already bought it.
@@Patrick_The_Pure The costs are still astronomical, and you bet your ass you won't get what you want even in a class action suit. The only winner in a Class Action suit is lawyers. And to win, you'd have to prove that Sony misled people. By my knowledge, Sony never advertised GT7 as being MTX free, so it isn't an easy win. They could easily say "Microtransactions weren't ready at the time of review".
The most depressing aspect of this whole thing is that just a couple weeks ago I was praising Gran Turismo for staying a true racing game to a friend just for this to happen. In the end, I guess in the gaming industry as it is now, the best mindset is to not have high expectations of anything, especially companies, so the disappointment isn't so severe...
It reminds me of going to a car dealership. They give you an extremely high price to begin with. When you settle with a price that is lower but still high, you think you got a good deal. In reality, you still got screwed, they just used "sleight of hand" tricks to make you feel better about it.
The fact that their 'apology' amounts to a small pack of credits tells me that they're really not looking at similar incidents for reference, several flops have done this seemingly thinking that it will make everything better (fallout 76 with the collectors edition incident springs to mind) Also interesting that they intend to basically double credits, when the post patch halved them, seems almost like anchoring to me.
I swear nearly *every* dev or publisher is going to end up trying this bullshit until all recent AAA titles have been nuked into the ground on the critic websites
@@vizioax2 would explain it, while most companies everywhere do tend to look to other companies for reference, only other way I can see this method apply is if they're only looking at the action, not the response, which is utterly silly
Remember this is the tactic, push then apologize for backlash, then wait until the internet forgets then slip something back in. Too many studios do this approach of refusing to put into games what should be in them from the start, rather than make games and making them quality products they would rather resort to manipulative tactics against those who buy their products. A good example tactic they use is a classic one in negotiating that I have seen others point out, which is put an extreme up front then walk it back to a (by comparison) more agreeable/appealing preposition to lower the guard of those you are negotiating with and get them to acquiesce/agree to what otherwise would also be objected to. TL;DR don't play or purchase games from any company who or at all if no company refuses to attempt manipulation to give less in their products for more money out of their consumers either learn and make your own games or invest your money else where while enjoying the good classics that people have fought hard to preserve and remember what we should be getting with our money
I agree, enough talk about these companies "learning from mistakes" or "listening to feedback". Time to wipe the slate clean and fund more worthy productions.
The problem is you end up with older consumers like me avoiding your products. I never buy ea games because I don't trust them. Once the trust is gone it's very tough to get back. I was genuinely considering gt7 until this, and it's put me right off.
they're more than likely banking on the people that are out of loop of this sort of stuff like children or literally anybody that doesn't pay attention to gaming news, as well as the die hard fans that will forgive and celebrate any sin these gaming companies commit. No doubt you'll find a whale here and there
'older customers'? Anyone with a knowledge of the market. I'm 24 and right in the middle of the bell curve and I wouldn't buy EA games if EA itself gave me the money to do so.
Selling a product under false pretenses is illegal, surely?! It's time governments start punishing this kind of greedy behaviour. And as a lifelong PlayStation costumer I'd have no problem in taking my business elsewhere if this is what the future holds for PlayStation.

This is by far the worst "shoving you towards the MTX store" in a single player game I have ever seen. It beats the nonsense Ubisoft have been doing hands down. It is a travesty and players should not stand for it. The more this rubbish gets an "ok" the worse it will become. Oh and let me not get started on a a single player game that requires you to be online. I would not even touch this game if it was given to me for free.
I always love just how far they’ll go to keep their shitty microtransactions in place. Instead of changing the system that makes earning credits an absolute grind (obviously to encourage mtx spending) they just go “here’s $10 worth of mtx, you’re welcome”
Except credits is the only form of currency in the game, not like other games which use the "free currency" and then the "Premium currency".. Basically anyone can use the 1mil credits..
tbh, after 30 Afters of server maintenance, 1,000,000 credit compensation is the bare minimum i expected. even then, compared to Genshin Impact (which has given higher amounts of compensation for shorter unexpected server outages), it's such an insulting amount. i logged in every day since i bought the game and my daily ticket streak was broken, so I'm back to getting 1,000 credit tickets. it's so stupid.

I’ll come back to GT when they: Eliminate the Limit of currency we can have at any given point. Completely remove the always online aspect of the game Remove micro transactions but lets be honest that will never happen.
We've seen this before. A company intentionally stepping way out of line on this kind of stuff, say "were sowwy" draw things back slightly to make it look like they are the good guys. When if they wanted to be the good guys THEY NEVER WOULD HAVE DONE THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE
Exactly. I think they intentionally made it this bad so that when we backlash, which they knew we would, they would make it less bad and expect us to be happy. That 100 percent is not enough honestly
BS PR apology. Shouldnt have happened in the first place. They tried basically milking people of their money. Like when you try to kill someone its not just forgiven and forgotten. Like bruh fuck that
Credibility ain't worth shit in 2022. They will still make money, people will forget, or most likely won't care at all. Reasonable players are only 10% of consumers, all the rest sees a supercar on the disc, buys the game and maybe the microtransactions along with it too. They won. Credibility it's a concept of the past, to when gaming was a medium only for enthusiasts.
@@alessiobenvenuto5159 But it is. CDPR and their new Witcher Trilogy's lack of hype is a good example of how it matters. Yea, they will still make tons of money, but when is that not th case? of course, there's no such thing as common sense nowadays, I mean there's NFTs ,so that should be enough proof.
Gamers do NOT want MTX. Gamers do NOT want "Always online DRM". Gamers do NOT want NFT's or crypto. Why do companies keep trying to push this on us and wonder why we all get mad when they do? AAA Developers/Publishers are so out of touch it amazes me.
Money, money, money, money....MONEY - that's the reason. If they could get away with a game-mechanic of rng-chances for tires flattening and selling you high-end-tires with a 0%-chance to flat or repair-kits for real money, they would.
I feel like I've been reliving the same year over and over again since like 2010 with companies *listening* to feedback after getting assblasted about microtransactions for the 90th time in a row. Companies will simply never learn, clearly.
So I’m going to add some thing that most people don’t realize, part of the reason why they want online at all times for single players games is so that they can monetize the games more, that way you won’t be able to use things like cheat engine or hack the game bc The currency for the game is server-based
Well, on the bright side, I am saving sooo much money on the games that I no longer buy...when I used to buy games monthly. It's interesting that I didn't outgrow the market, but rather that the market simply doesn't care to cater to any reasonable consumer demand (ie: not utterly fleecing the fans). Meanwhile, those rare complete "single player" games like Elden Ring, Jedi Fallen Order, Bravely Default, and Horizon continue to sell gangbusters and surprise these myopic fools.
We need an Elden Ring of racing games. Many people had so much faith that GT7 will be one of the best racing games to date. So many racing IPs have either died (Midnight Club from R*, Burnout from EA) or have their legacy tarnished for various reasons (Gran Turismo, Need For Speed from EA, Project Cars, Forza Motorsport [not Forza Horizon]).
I feel that all these major reviewers should probably start up a second review practice, where they go back to a game a month or two after launch to see how it holds up to their 'on launch' review. Not only would it possibly give some scummy people a pause on flipping the 'screw the customers over' switch, it would also give the poor rushed to release developers a chance to have their work seen in a positive light, rather than the mess they were forced to launch in. Granted that second one could lead developers being pushed to launch before they're ready even more…
@@ShaimingLong it would be great if the reviewers just had a policy of "company deceived us by having us review a game that was not a reflection of the true aspects of the game? Score immediately gets reduced to 0"
@@pinkchckn You'd run into the problem of company's refusing to support those publications though, like how basically no official review score goes below 6/10. There's many stories of publishers demanding low score reviews be taken down under threat of being blacklisted for review copies and interviews. It wouldn't be a bad idea in general for a review to be officially stated to be obsolete by the publication after any major update has happened to a product they've reviewed, however. Just that 0 score would cause some knee jerk reactions and those big companies paying those reviewers will want to avoid that 😕
Really glad that the players are pushing back hard against this bs. The worst thing about microtransactions, gazillion DLCs and overall bad practices is that it's so often tolerated byt the communities, that it's encouraging those companies to continue the bad practices and so the vicious circle continues.
There has only been one DLC in GT history. GT5 had multiple dlc packs that were….ok…wasn’t a total rip off but could have been free. Ever since all “dlc” has been free updates like cars and tracks.
How many PR disasters like this does the gaming industry need before they realize that gamers HATE this! Who is doing the math that says making games this much of a grind will increase monetary income? BF2042 disastrously fails, GT7 getting review bombed. How hard is it to ask for good games these days!?
It gets harder and harder, because the moment investors and shareholders got involved, it all became about profit. They want to see a bigger number each earnings call, no matter the means. They're everything that's wrong with the gaming industry now. Most of the games' budgets are blown onto marketing and lining the pockets of executives, while those making the actual game are paid in peanuts. Things are looking somewhat better with indie games, but not all indie developers are our friends either. Lots of grab-and-run cases, whether on Kickstarter or in early access. Good games are still being made but it looks like there's a growing trend of "money for nothing".
The problem is that even when a game fails from a PR perspective, there are usually enough people pumping money into MTX to more than make up the difference in sales. It doesn't matter how much we complain, this is what AAA gaming is now.
According to the ESA, if a game is found to have content that contradicts its rating, that game needs to be massively recalled and all customers need to be refunded and the game needs to be released with the relevant rating.
This is the same ESA that grants NBA 2k21 an E for Everyone rating despite having blatant gambling mechanics. A literal pochinko machine. And they changed Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green's rating to Teen due to simulated gambling...
You are 1 billion percent correct. The part where they shady released the game to be reviewed without micro transactions to turn it on nearly immediately after launch is the shadiest thing I have seen. I wish we could all return the game to vote with our wallets. They did this so we could not vote with our money. This is so disappointing as a gamer
And remember how the devs noted that the nerfs in patch 1.07 was to correct an 'exploit' in which players were earning more credits than intended. That blew me away when they called the payouts an exploit. Deflecting the blame onto the players. Plain speak...you're earning more credits that we want you to for free and not spending enough IRL money. Dishonest and dishonorable.
Not to mention,if they were an exploit, nerf the ones people were "exploiting" not literally all of them. Only raised up the payout on races that take 30 minutes to do,shot every other one in the foot
Great, now we're going from "never pre-order games" to "never buy games at release". All because of the greed and disgusting behavior of executives like this. Although, just as with the "never pre-order" thing, people don't learn their lesson when getting ripped off, and I expect people to still be throwing billions at these publishers while crying on twitter about getting ripped off.
Comes as a surprise that another racing game, Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox and PC didn't pull this like Gran Turismo 7 did. I never played Forza but do they also include microtransactions and lock the single -player to online only? I'm curious, so let me know.
I'm glad the community pushed for changed, shame those fanboys defended the decision to drop payouts & the whole mess of an economy we have. Never settle for shady business practices👍
Changes? You are being played by them, the fact that they change the system from "egregious shit" to "just shit" doesn't make it "good". They relase an unacceptable system, so that when they make into a barely acceptable one, you'll think they are good, but it's all in their plans, and the game will never get good this way. It's sad and frustrating, really.

If I viewed games in the way you do, I just wouldn't be a gamer anymore, full stop, i'd turn my back on industry as a whole but for me personally I'd rather push for change with a community & see those small wins than just turn my back on a franchise I hold dearly which has the foundations to be the best in the series.
The fact they're insistent on calling it a Live service sadly means we'll likely never get an offline only mode and the game will forever remain unplayable once the plug is pulled
Gran Turismo 5's removal of ALL online features was a warning of the domino effect we're seeing today in the franchise. I remember being angrily confused about why I couldn't access anymore the DLC events and car market (or whatever the names were - I don't even own my PS3 currently) - I thought they'd update an offline version of them. I knew online matches were bound to be terminated (and they did it way earlier than I expected), but I'm still salty they basically removed a fraction of the game's content. Unfortunately all that wasn't the worst from their decision making.
The solution is simple. Reviewers need to wait to provide review scores, or review sites have to allow reviewers to adjust their scores if a developer pulls this kind of crap. That way if the developer gives review copies out that do not contain microtransactions, but then the retail version drops and it does, the reviewers can just go in and change their score based on how they view the changes that were made between the review copy they were given, and the garbage retail version.
They will literally never do that, the market rewards the earliest reviews and their relationship with game companies means they will never stand up to them. That's why you can't trust major reviewers.
Their "compensation" of 1 million credits (worth about $10) has big "500 atoms" energy to it. Anything less than the complete removal of MTX and rebalancing of payouts and rewards to be more in favor of the player is completely unacceptable.
Also giving players free credits is a well known f2p tactic to get people to engage with the in game store and increase the likelihood of them spending real money.
My sentiment remains highly negative. Kaz's latest statement neither acknowledges the actual issue of the complaints which is primarily the monetization push as well as online DRM. All Polyphony did was back down the bullshit flame to a point where they think the peons will be happy enough to go back to business as usual. I do love the driving of the game itself. I just got a Zonda R and it's my current favorite. But the grind it took to get the credits to buy it sucks.
To be honest, your sentiment is irrelevant Scotty. The DRM issue I get and it's idiotic. But microtransactions? For what ? Gt7 is by far the easiest GT game. You literally don't even have to win games to get cars rewarded to you (you only need to achieve third place lmao). They did this for players like you Scotty. Participation awards for players of your generation with three second attention spans. I'd love to see your reactions to the GT3 economy. Grinding the Sunday Cup with an '89 Mazda Miata for 15 times to get a few thousand credits.
@waxing gibbous Miss me with the generic copy pasta you heard from a youtuber. Use your brain and think for yourselves for once. Btw, how many hours have you logged in GT7 ? Lemme hear it friendo.

@@JL-rj9fl But that's why his point of view is so easy to deconstruct, he said he loves the driving in this game, but he hated the grind. Which is an oxymoron. If you love the driving in this game, then how on earth do you hate "the grind" (In this case, the "grind" being the driving itself)? Also, that's been the whole point of Gran Turismo games since their inception. God forbid putting in work to buy a (super exclusive) hypercar like the Pagani Zonda R. This isn't an arcade game like Forza. You don't get to start the game with new Supras and Corvettes, collect a few mil after playing for a few hours and call it a day. Gran Turismo games (thankfully) have never functioned this way. Also, i think it was rather clear, but the three second attention span comment was generally aimed at the people who criticize this game without having actually played. It was more of an extension of my issue that i have with the community.
@@divinitygaming8673 I would say my issue was that it seemed like you were singling out the guy, and I think Scotty's a victim here. The issue with grind, and the enjoyment of driving, comes down to expectations that were set at the time the game was purchased. For all we know, the user purchased the game based on his understanding of the economy he got from watching reviewers who evaluated the game. It isn't his fault that PD's initial patch reduced in-game rewards. Personally, I could see this position, as I was very interested in the title until I learned it was a live service. Once I realized it was, I could never purchase it because I will not support that business model.
It is really disappointing to see Sony of all companies allow this crap to happen to one of their franchises. They knew fans would hate it and even hid it from reviewers. That is something I expect from Activision or EA but not Sony. They had better not do this to God of War.
They are at the top of the games and it makes them giddy. I played PS1 a lot back in the days and PS2 is the latest Sony console I own, I'm okay. PS4 is great for offline play, but PS5 is more like PC by the day. At least PC has access to drm free games.
I was planning to buy PS5 for GT7 (PC is my main gaming platform) and possibly Horizon: Forbidden West. My idea was to wait until some reviews to check if some stuff is available - mostly single player endurance races as i found them most fun in GT series, but GT6 was disappointing not to have those on release. And it occurred that: - no endurance races are present - microtransactions are polluting the game - there is no option to sell the car - graphics are ok, but only on Forza 7 level from 2017- this is fine, but i was expecting more. As of now Sony and Polyphony is not getting my money. I will use the money for some nice vacation.
"Intended equilibrium" is right up there with "surprise game mechanics". We can't even get refunds now that Sony disallows them the millisecond the game download starts. This is the first generation I've actually regretted being a PlayStation guy.
It doesn't matter to me what fixes or improvements they can make to this; the damage has already been done and has effectively tainted the series and the devs so badly.
It’s dirty as hell. Just leaves a bad taste in the mouth no matter what. That they even remotely thought what they did was a good idea is insulting and disrespectful. I’m still not buying this shit
Rockstar has the right idea by creating their own cars instead of PAYING for real ones in the Grand Theft Auto games, etc. If the car manufacturers are willing to pay to have their cars in a video game, fine. Otherwise, I'll stick with fictional cars.
Stop buying live services. They are not games. They are stores, with a "skin" of a game. The focus of this will always be on the store, because that's all there is at the core.
And stop buying games on day one. No need to chase after a refund if you wait until the product is revealed for the shameless cash grab it is before you buy.
1 million credits does nothing if the monetization and micro transactions stay the same. What a bunch of BS, I hope their decisions here tank this installment of this series.
Wait so they took the game offline for 30 hours to nerf rewards and set up MTs? Geez racing sims are already such a niche market in gaming, then they go ahead and piss off their faithfuls? Gaming has become a cesspool of greed and it's just sad smh
Not buying this game out of principle, even if they fix it. They need to feel it in their wallets before our voices get REALLY heard... That thief analogy was spot on btw, that is exactly how I feel about this. And love your channel, been a subscriber for a few weeks now!
Good on you for not buying it, screw FOMO. This idea of "we should buy it after they fix it" is ridiculous. People should buy the next one, GT8, if they don't pull this crap again.
They will never disable always online DRM, it's a "live service" Also, there isn't an "in game economy" yet given only one entity can sell (Sony) and one entity can buy (players)
I’m at a point where I just don’t give a shit if the devs themselves get a huge amount of flack. I’m done with the whole we don’t have a choice excuse. These devs are complicit and deserve all the shit they get.
The developers have to make a living. Implementation is not the same as making the decision. If they were nazis killing Jews I’d agree. This is just game developers adding micro transactions to keep their jobs so they can feed their families. I hate what GT 7 did as much as you do but we can’t let our disgust be targeted at those without the power to decide. They could just quit and be blacklisted from every game company I suppose but it’s not feasible or fair to expect that.
yeah these devs could go to different companies. they know what they are working on. if they don't want any flack go to a company that actually cares about making games for the customers

It is fraud
Agreed. It should be a violation of consumer protection laws. When you purchase any good, you're buying it as it was, at the moment you purchased it. If the product is then changed and made so that the original version is unobtainable through legal means, then you should have a right to a refund.
@@TheMongoNetwork When is it not?
Why does that sound familiar...?
Oh wait.
That's the EA business model.

Macro transactions
Your thought should be talked about more.
That's the manipulative marketing they use to soften what it really is. If you're buying something, that's definitely a transaction.
For real
Yeah, the "Oh you don't like what we are doing? Clearly that just means you're too stupid to understand our greatness" is almost worse than the shit they're doing.
It’s all bullshit. I respond by never purchasing games from these devs any longer. Thankfully EA games are low on my priority list.

HOW?
There is a whole generation that have now grown up with lootboxes, micro transactions, skins trading (gambling for children). I am afraid of the consequences of how they have normalised it all. Unfortunately, there will be a small audience that will spend a substantial amount of money in the game that it will all pay off for Sony no matter what the backlash.
I was behind a public bus in traffic the other day and there was an ad about problem gambling for children.... That blew me away! That our society has stopped so low that we can't even protect children from the adult gaming (pokies etc..) industry
The thing is we can alresdy see this with MMOs and Mobile games that have been doing Microtransactions heavy handily since conception.
This is why so many people defend this crap, they've literally grown up with it. They've never known a gaming industry where you're not expected to pay for every breath your character takes. They don't know what it's like to actually be the one spending the money. They think it's "entitlement" to expect games to not nickel and dime you every ten seconds

They will fall back to shady tactics after fixing it for some time, but I doubt it will gain PR and a legacy of hate like Fallout 76. This is all so textbook now:
Here's the thing that everyone seems to be forgetting
For now it's all good if they fix the game with a future patch because we can all connect and pull it from the server.
That's why I'll never buy the game no matter what they do. I'll get it in the future for between 10 and 20 bucks because that's all it's worth.
@@lordspalse0062 "I'll never buy the game", then next sentence is "I'll buy the game"... ?

Tbf, they could patch the "always online" element at the end of the game's "life cycle" to make it playable despite the servers being shut down. Emphasis on "couuld". It's an option. But seeing how some companies even don't give a shyte about game preservation, I doubt it will happen. And yes, for someone who has no internet connection, the GT7 disc would be a coaster anyway, since he can't play it now and wouldn't be able to download the patch at the end. Jokes on them. Amazon has a 30 day refund policy.
Lower monthly payment but higher APR%
The fact that their 'apology' amounts to a small pack of credits tells me that they're really not looking at similar incidents for reference, several flops have done this seemingly thinking that it will make everything better (fallout 76 with the collectors edition incident springs to mind)
Also interesting that they intend to basically double credits, when the post patch halved them, seems almost like anchoring to me.
It's essentially "hush money" except it's not real money.
My conspiracy is it's the same PR person moving from all the company's and giving the same apology lol.
AAA gaming needs to collapse like it did in the early 80’s. Perhaps something worthy of our money will rise from the ashes. Doubtful though.
I agree, enough talk about these companies "learning from mistakes" or "listening to feedback". Time to wipe the slate clean and fund more worthy productions.

Releasing a patch like that after it's been reviewed is called FRAUD! They should be fined for this!

They only understand the language of money, if enough people are buying them then nothing else matters

Exactly bro.
Consider this
Reviewers get PAID to do so, when and how said company wants not when/how they want
Too late metacritic have spoken, the dev will have their bonus
They will literally never do that, the market rewards the earliest reviews and their relationship with game companies means they will never stand up to them. That's why you can't trust major reviewers.
The solution would be for the gamers to stop contributing to micro transactions because as long as they are profitable they will always be an issue
Every time AAA gets shat on, it warms my jaded, frozen heart just a bit.

And it occurred that:
- no endurance races are present
- microtransactions are polluting the game
- there is no option to sell the car
- graphics are ok, but only on Forza 7 level from 2017- this is fine, but i was expecting more.
As of now Sony and Polyphony is not getting my money. I will use the money for some nice vacation.

Yupp i returned my gt7 no ty
And stop buying games on day one. No need to chase after a refund if you wait until the product is revealed for the shameless cash grab it is before you buy.
@@2020-p2z I haven't bought a game on day 1 (without seeing player reviews, I don't give a fuck what critics say) since 2015.
Most live service games are FREE.
The best thing after the shitstorm would be a class action lawsuit. And yes also not buying the game
good work mate , seriously. we need more like you.
Good on you for not buying it, screw FOMO.
This idea of "we should buy it after they fix it" is ridiculous. People should buy the next one, GT8, if they don't pull this crap again.
@@ran_red I totally agree. Waiting for GT8 with no bull crap.
Man I remember the days when GT was the racing sim. It just saddens me to see such a great series stoop so low.
at least we still have iracing

Assetto Corsa as well
They will never disable always online DRM, it's a "live service"
Also, there isn't an "in game economy" yet given only one entity can sell (Sony) and one entity can buy (players)
@Michael Lochlann but you aren't paying your boss right , wtf is that logic?
yeah these devs could go to different companies. they know what they are working on. if they don't want any flack go to a company that actually cares about making games for the customers
@@TheHolsomback again that’s not fair to expect. It’s incredibly difficult to get hired onto the worlds best gaming teams. They don’t owe us anything. Their family is more important than us being mad about micro transactions.
