This is the kind of review that LEGO should pay more attention to...a real-world playtest! I especially appreciate the solutions suggested to overcome the problems.
Welding the rear differential only does good on a drift car. A welded front diff would not allow the car to turn. In real off-road cars, the differentials have a locker mechanism which gets engaged either automatically or manually when things get tough and disengaged when it's no longer needed so that the car can turn properly
Again very noice review! Been working on this sense last Thursday. One thing you can do w/ the central diff is replace it with a single gear and a "cap" you can find the specs on a vid about "quick fixes". Shout out to the person who made it very good vid I'll use that on my 6x6
You could probably fix the “wheel off the ground” issue by implementing a locking differential. Then you won’t have to worry about wheels not spinning in offroading
I wonder if there's a way to make the outriggers sit higher when retracted. I really like the idea of a 6 wheel floating axle truck, in fact maybe just dump the crane entirely and try to implement a diff lock like the Mercedes? Of course adding 2 wheels to the Merc might be easier?
Thank you this was very helpful, I have been considering buying this but I wanted to a little bit of research, this video has greatly informed me and I think now I will go ahead with the purchase.
Thanks! There aren't many fully motorized official sets, probably 42065 is the most fun off road :) 9398/41999 is good as well but it's too high and tips over easily... there are tons of amazing offroad mocs otherwise, my favorite is probably this one: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/161435-moc-greyhound-4wd-rc-buggy-with-buwizz-2/
Thank you, glad you like it! I use a Panasonic GH5 with some native and adapted lenses (e.g. 12-60 kit lens, Panasonic 100-300, Olympus 45 F1.8, Laowa 7.5 F2)
After some serious study, I am seriously considering getting a GH5 myself. I won't have the money for the new generation of cameras that are about the be announced, but GH5 is becoming more affordable as a consequence, yey. But related to that, I have another question for you if you don't mind. Out of the lenses you mentioned, which is your favorite and the one you use most of the time for your LEGO channel? Also do you remember the lens you used for this video? I would really appreciate it if you could help me with this.
I suggest to check out the Panasonic G9 as well. It lacks only the pro-oriented video features of the GH5 but has many other tweaks and updates, it is lighter and a bit cheaper as well. You can check the differences online, e.g. here: mirrorlesscomparison.com/preview/panasonic-g9-vs-gh5/ Regarding the lenses, the studio part was made mostly with the 12-60 kit lens. For the outdoor clips I think I used almost all of the lenses mentioned previously except the 100-300. Where you see a really wide angle but still a blurred background that's the Laowa 7.5 F2, if the angle is much narrower but there is heavy blurring that's the 45 1.8, otherwise the kit lens is used. As a rule of thumb if you would like to have a significantly blurred foreground/background, you need to have a fast lens around F1.8-F2. About my favorite lens, that's though as I use these 3 lenses almost all the time. The kit lens has the versatility of the zoom range but as it starts from F3.5 and goes up quickly to F5.6 so you cannot really do "artistic" shots with it with a shallow dof. I really like the 45 1.8, it's an amazing lens but has a limited usage due to the focal range, you cannot show much of the environment with 45mm. The super wide Laowa is also great but for specific shots again. So to sum it up, I'd suggest to get the G9 with the 12-60 kit lens, start to use it and see first what focal range you use the most and if you need something faster. If you need it then you can pick up a used Olympus 45mm 1.8, or Panasonic 25mm 1.7 or 20mm 1.7 for a decent price, depending on your preferred focal range.
Thanks! I'm pretty sure it's built the right way. If you start to engage them from a fully closed position the rear ones will touch the ground sooner than the side ones, so the clutch in the rear ones will make the creaking noise until the side ones are fully engaged.
Thanks! I think this set is a bit misunderstood - it is definitely not a trial truck. With the crane and the outriggers it is not capable of serious off-roading, but it was really not meant to do that. If we remove the outriggers and the crane I'm sure it'll perform much better - I'll make some experiments with it in the future. The song is called "So Lost", it is from the TH-cam Audio Library.
thanks for song name- well name of this set is "all terrain tow truck" - even if you remove outtrigers and crane and differencials with clutch gears this vehicle still can not work well. i say you why - its just too heav for one XL. be careful i broken one XL becouse its work with too heavy construction.
I'll see how it behaves, thanks for the warning. For a proper upgrade another XL is definitely a must have with the removal of the central differential.
It's a special edition Crawler. The only differences between it and the regular crawler are that this one has a winch, lights, and the top looks different.
Why do you think that? I always try to find the positive and the negative aspects as well. Especially with this set I saw so many totally negative reviews, I don't feel mine to be one of them.
RacingBrick it was on carpet and I had changed the drive train to gears but it only drove about 1 meters before the internal gearbox mange’s to break itself somehow I think it’s a traction problem
