Fifth Harmony had some bops. Hearing them speak about their time in the band after the hiatus is so sad. All of them were teenagers when it started & I feel like none of these Managers/Label Executives looked after their physical, mental & spiritual well being. I hope they can find the healing they need
The real fans knew this all along. They never spoke directly about it, it was always some cliché moments in soundchecks/ meet & greets/ tour interludes etc... It breaks my heart hearing her speak about this now (and before).

@@isaiahacevedo541 That moment is engraved in my brain for life and I'm not exaggerating. I spent most of teen years being super obsessed with them so I have this kind of grew up with them mentality. It hurts me that I knew about their mistreatment but we never really got to do anything because the label was in high power. Which was frustrating. They were never given creative control until Camila left cause Epic just wanted the girls to do anything guaranteed they'd flop and they'd get dropped 😔.Epic Records is literally hell, Look at Madison Beers career. Her first album took a WHILE to release despite having 3 singles. As well as Zara Larsson, she had 5 singles before her debut.
Epic Records is basically a really greedy company.
“Your too soulful” “you need to hold back” translates to “you sing better than who we actually want to shine and that’s not okay.” 😂
naw not really, normani sung lead cuz the track was more of a hiphop vibe , sometimes it really just boils down to the sound for the audience, Dinah has a deep strong voice and not every song wins with that ingredient
One thing about Dinah Jane, when it came to live performances she delivered consistent live vocals ! She never used to hold back during live shows! To me she was the best vocally of the group & I hate how she was treated 🫶🏽

The group held them back and that's such a shame, all of them had great voices and had so much potential. I feel like their label wanted to focus so much on Camila, and I get it, she has an unique voice, but it's frustrating to hear how much bs they got when in fact, all 5 of them could sing really well. Just look at songs like Who Are You, We Know, That's My Girl, those were some moments were all of them really shined and it sounded amazing.
yeah it’s sad that group was basically made to launch Camila’s solo career. The other girls deserved better

Camila’s voice is a unique pop voice that stood out in group of soulful voices. And she was conventionally, attractive and charismatic.. she had the full package sorry not sorry
Not to mention how much she really showed she was an artist with her constantly songwriting while the other girls were chillin and resting.
Not only did she have the talent and look but she had the drive and passion.

Forming a group and then picking who gets to have singing parts on a record, specifically not allowing all members to actual sing "solo" on the record is probably one of the most evil things I've ever heard about the music industry. And they were teenage girls, imagine what this rejection and erasure does to your confidence and self-worth. Their managers, the A&R, producers or whoever made these decisions are not seeing heaven, bunch of sociopathic assholes.

that’s the one thing I appreciate about Little Mix. They all got equal shine, equal parts, nobody outdid the other. The consciously decided to be equals and be a group. It’s sad fifth harmonys label wouldn’t provide for them in the same ways! It’s creates a competitive atmosphere for sure.

This isn't new though. I'm not saying it's okay but it seem pretty common. Happened even in DC. Michelle has pipes but you never really heard her until much later on. Happened a ton in Danity Kane. The difference is though with DK they actually got told how to sing so they had a chance to get on the record. Butnif your sound wasn't a fit they left you off. In this case it sounds like they just left her off without really helping her out. I'm sure the same thing happened in the 90s girl groups.

Little Mix had so much more support from the label and public in general than Fifth Harmony, it's crazy how these fans want to talk about the supposed "mistreatment" of Little Mix which is obviously invented cause they never had any, you"ll be surprised at the amount of misoginy Fifth Harmony faced when they were together and how they're still facing it, Little Mix talk about a misoginy they never experienced in their songs.

But because there are some clips of the members "ignoring" Camilla, so people took it as Camilla being the victim always.

It’s so sad that they weren’t able to love being in a group like LM, DC, and FLO. Fifth Harmony had so much potential. I blame those in charge of managing those young ladies. They failed them. They failed their well being. Made them feel low and empty. So glad to see there resurgence!
I really feel like they punshed Camilla to the front. They wanted her to be the face of the group. They really buried Dinah Jane & Lauren who’s voices are actually better in my opinion. I think they felt Camilla was more marketable, she had a uniqueness to her voice but it wasn’t too R&B or too soulful. They didn’t want to turn off their non-poc fans.
if you don't mind me asking, I'm curious to what made you not list Ally? While vocal style and characteristics are of course up for preference, when it comes to the definition of vocal talent, Ally is the strongest in almost every area: skill, technique, range, musicality, resonance, etc (although she and Normani both possess whistle register, Ally has the highest vocal range and Normani can also go lowest)

@@divadream Honestly I wasn't really a fan of Ally's voice. Just my personal preference. She was just "okay" for me. Although I really like Normani, I like her overall performance ability. Lauren and Dinah Jane's voices got me from the beginning. If you go back to them doing the acapella version of Honeymoon Avenue you will see what I mean.
Yeah Dinah’s voice is so beautiful, you can tell the group had a specific person they wanted to spotlight because she’s amazing
I felt like all of them were stars, but behind the scenes, there was so much going on, and so many issues that some of them faced, not being heard on records, pushing Camila as the star of the group, even normani facing racial backlash and feeling left out by fans coz of her skin color it was so much going on behind the scenes that I'm happy some of em are speaking out about how they felt
Having watched 5th Harmony since X factor auditions, it was always insane to me how little Dinah Jane was feature on the songs. She was arguably the strongest vocalist in the group, and she didn’t even feature prominently in any of their singles until “Flex”. Bananas. I’ll always remember her absolutely destroying “If I were a boy” at like 15 years old.
Same. Her audition stood out to me the most, and that's why she was my favourite throughout the show.
Loved them all but Dinah will always be my number 1. I loved the way she rehashed her 5H memories. Both the good and the bad while being classy and not talking trash about anyone.
I met Dinah at an event and she's just lovely and sooo sweet! Really down to earth and I respect that so much! And she got some vocals! Love her!

I met her in Sydney when she came down for the Common Kings Australian tour. God she is beautiful both within and without. She has the best smile. And to top it off, so down to earth. Love her. Love you Dinah..
I saw Dinah live about 3 yrs ago and she did amazing. her set was short because she was the opener but I had sm fun. she was def underrated in 5h

Young people starting out in the music industry don’t realize that If you are signed to a major label or a subsidiary, you may qualify for health insurance though AFTRA. This applies to “royalty artists” as well as session vocalists, and the plan also covers families, not just individuals. Artists who join unions can obtain benefits through their union, for instance SAG/AFTRA, the Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has a pension and health plan. The music industry will never NOT be predatory on people’s ignorance, however💯💯

American groups from what I noticed always have a star in the group they make sure is always scene I noticed foreign groups or non American groups tend to always have members share vocals equally on a track I swear American group members are always pinned against each other

They tried to do the same with Little Mix in regards to having Perrie as the "lead" but Little Mix fought their management for their entire career to make sure they all had equal say, the concept of equality was something that was integral to the group and the reason why they lasted so long Vs Fifth Harmony who imploded in a number of years, largely due to that inequality between members. The whole thing of having 1 lead singer is usually seen in US girl groups too (although it is a sexist and ridiculous industry standard that has been consistently disproven).
It’s them acting like they didn’t know Lauren wasn’t on Worth it… y’all interviewed her 3 times and discussed that cut it out!
I personally know Camila and her mom which is her manager and I will say producers played a huge role but also individually these girls had opinions and a lot happened behind the scenes that no one talks about.
There is always one in the comment section who knows these people "personally" and then go on with the BS. Camila worked her ass off , just say you are a hater and go off. Btw , Roger is her manager. Her mom is not

Camila almost bought of her contract with fifth harmony and paid 300k but was advised not to by higher ups because there was only months left of it that’s how miserable these girls were

Very insightful. I don't know much about her or 5H other than some songs, but she's reflective but not bitter and seems happy moving forward which gives me strength.
I loved this group so much, and saw them in concert sooo many times! What Dinah said about only showing pieces of her, felt very true at the time. I always wondered why she, as one of the strongest vocalists of the group, never had any kind of high notes or vocal runs in their early music. I love seeing these women as individual artists now because we are discovering new sides of them. All this being said, Dinah’s audition for xfactor still gives me chills to this day. Love seeing her today ❤

Soul music is mostly associated with black people and music executives think that sound doesn't sell to the mainstream audience or white people. So, when you get told you are TOO SOULFUL it means YOU SOUND TOO BLACK AND YOU WONT MAKE IT MAINSTREAM OR TOP40. That's why you don't hear R&B on a Z100, Zach Sang or Ryan Seacrest because in their eyes, it doesn't sell.
It is completely racist and it's a double standard when white counterparts like Adele, Sam Smith, and other can sing like that and be put on Billboards, mainstream radio, TV, etc.

Dinah was the best live perfomer of the group, lets not forget that - she kept everyone in check with the dancing and many of the girls pushed themselves harder because of her. Im excited on what shes going to bring, but shes the youngest of the group. She can take her time until she's ready to strike back.

I think you're both wrong, Dinah was always out of breath, true, but Normani had some of the best vocals, she had the whistle notes and generally she could pull off a hour and a half show very easily. Ally was and still is the best vocally, she can belt notes and is very, very precise. She also has a great extension, can't say she is the most recognizable but If we're talking about singing.. she's is definitely the best. Dinah's voice is made for another kind of music, not the one she was making while on the group.

Normani and Camila were the best live performers (hard to admit that for Camila tho it’s true). Lauren was very inconsistent with her effort and Dinah just didn’t have the stamina but was the second best dancer.

yo full disclosure, at the time, i really thought, to be quite honest, i still to this day think it's actually Dinah's voice & management somehow made them do some kind of switch during live performances with Dinah & Camila, i really honestly thought Dinah was on the "ooh whoa baby" adlibs after the hook verse😂😂😂😂sorta like how they pulled a Miss Movin On switch where Lauren sang the verse "I broke the glass that surrounded me, i ain't the way you remember me, i was such a good girl so fragile, but no more" on the official released version but Ally does the verse during live performances...

So sad to think that even in 2023, "Harmonizers" are still pitching the girls against each other. She meant she didn’t have any lead parts on the songs and only did the harmonies on the chorus. So they basically just blended her vocals with the other girls. Just no solos
@@Bruddahlekii she meant that she didn't have lines, basically in groups, some members would get a verse, a chorus, ad libs, etc. these are called line distributions, Dinah does not have lines for Sledgehammer and Boss but only appears for the chorus and harmony. because of this, she has 0% on the line distribution

This isnt unheard of, it depends on the song and its intended sound. For instance, theres plenty of girl groups like Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child who have songs that not all the girls are on.

BLACKPINK has the same problem. Lisa always has to rap, they don't ever give her any song that suits her vocal range. So whenever their songs don't have rap parts, she only sings like 10 seconds
That's her role in the grp. She's weakest vocally so I'd understad if certain parts are just not suited for her vocal range. She can't hit high notes. It's a non issue because all if not most of their songs have a rap part..

Honestly, how these girls were treated was just foolish. They are so versatile and they should have played into that. For example, when you look at K-pop groups like Twice and BTS, they have 7 or 9 members, everybody gets a part. BTS even has solo numbers within their albums. The people who managed them were just very limited in vision and I think these girls might have stuck together if they just had more creative freedom and a place to showcase their talent.
