If I can add a little context to this, they're from Las Vegas. I came from the same scene as them (though obviously not on the same level of succcess, and the songs on my page are just private demos that came later). But coming from there... there was NO culture in terms of indie style or garage style bands. At all. It was 90% metal bands or hard rock (a bunch of washed up 80s hopefuls, and a bunch of screamo bands). I was in the same position as them. You have to look outward. Coming through Vegas, my group was seen as different, and we actually got a good deal of interest in our time together. Decent sized shows with regular fans singing our songs. Vegas was this bleak place where there was actually a market for bands like The Killers, my band, and others. But the local scene didn't show it. Nowadays, the scene has expanded a lot from what I hear, which I'm happy for. But back then in the 2000s... it was a place you couldn't be influenced by if you were into UK music, or 60s-70s rock or anything. I doubt many will read this, but I thought I'd add some context.
The Killers are one of my all time favorite bands, and I've never understood the common criticism they get that the first album was way better than the rest. A band who achieved success by evoking a sound from another time/place basically decides to evoke a different time/place on their next record. Sounds like standard operating procedure, maybe. Weird to see Springsteen "rediscovered" this way; one of the reasons people in the US got away from his sound was it was constantly beaten into their ears without cease from about 1986 to 1995. The music industry loves "nostalgia" (bc they own so much real estate in it), so even tho' the "Jersey world" Bruce described hadn't existed since, at latest, 1978; the industry was relentless in making us hear about it for decades after. Given that it was a lucrative model, tho, it's no surprise that someone would try the template again, 30 years later.

Hot Fuss may be their magnum opus, but Sam's Town is still an underrated masterpiece. Everything about that album out at you with life in a viserical assault, but whereas Hot Fuss had the same lifeness, that wad deliberately more raw and less polished in its presentation. Can't say I was ever a kILLERS fan, but they were releasing music duting my high school years. So you could imagine how it's the soundtrack, in the background of my youth
Hot Fuss may be their magnum opus, but Sam's Town is still an underrated masterpiece. Everything about that album out at you with life in a viserical assault, but whereas Hot Fuss had the same lifeness, that wad deliberately more raw and less polished in its presentation. Sam's Town is like a a concept narratively constructed album that feels like your watching a movie with your ears. 'When You Were Young' is a great track, but I wouldn't say it's my favourite off the album.
My guy, you need some more subs! Thanks for the content.
Excellent video! The Killers are a favorite of mine, and Sam's Town is my favorite album of theirs. This context helps explain why I like it better than Hot Fuss, even though that sounds sacrilegious to say.
Good stuff. I think a video about Mumford & Sons and their evolution would be awesome!
Love this album. It has a special place in my heart.
Brandon Flowers sounds like Brandon Flowers. Thought we left all this Springsteen stuff in 2006.
Since moving to the USA from Canada, Sam's Town has made a resurgence on my playlists. I enjoyed it when it came out, but now it does have more of a connection. It's nice to know why.
Right there with you man. I was an exchange student in the US, and at that point Sam's Town had always been my favorite album - but seeing all the imagery so vividly described by Mr. Flowers left an everlasting impact on me.
Thank you for making a video about the killers !!!
Sam’s Town is one of the most underrated albums of our time.
F**k yeah!!! New polyphonic
Edit: also I love this song
Edit 2.0: great editing, best yet
Fuck yes. My favorite band of all time.
An even more similar "walk down in the bridge" can be heard during the solo of Prince's Purple Rain, around the 5:10 mark.
Sam's Town, Hot Fuss, Day & Age, and The Desired Effect are my favorite albums. I also happen to have a distant view of Sam's Town casino from my bedroom window, lol :)
talk about the debut album of the Violent Femmes and how they pioneered acoustic rock a full decade before it would become popular
Fuck yes
That'd be damn good.
Sam's Town is one of the greatest albums from the early 2000's
This is great, the killers are absolutely amazing!!!
Sams Town is a great album no matter what anyone says. The Killers in general are very good. Day & Age is their best, IMO. And is the perfect amalgamation of everything they’ve done and been inspired by.
The track "bones" from this album is one of the best from it
gosh this is such an amazing song
Glad to be here
