I still feel that back when Kanan was dying and he looked over at Tariq, he definitely thought to himself "damn... if he got me he'll definitely kill Ghost" and that's really why he let him go.

That’s two lessons I learned from Ghost and Kanan: For Ghost, is always be three steps ahead and make your accomplishments seem effortless. And for Kanan make your opponents think they’ve already won when they haven’t; do things they will never see coming.

BOOK 3 of POWER, we don't see Young Kanan playing Chess or being Strategic, but when Young Kanan visits his Father, you can see a Chess set in the living room, so Kanan must learned too be strategic from his Policeman Father

Riq was my fave character from OG power when everyone hated him, now he’s leading the top power spin off. Love how we got to see him from young to now growing up on screen and his whole life.
I think what this is going to boil down to is who was smarter. Ghost or his son Tariq. They both have similar lifestyles and personalities. Ways of doing things. The game of Chess has always been about being steps ahead. Tariq now sees how his dad was. Hence the burning of the letter. Indicating that now Tariq sees what his father has been saying this whole time. Now it's time to execute! Smh I swear POWER is the best show ive ever watched. I don't think ive EVER invested so much of my time and opinions to one show like this!

Kanan taught Tariq to always be 3 moves a head of enemy. Once Tariq betrayed Kanan, Tariq was on a path to betray Ghost and Tommy with the quickness.
Idk I still look at that scene as kanan being proud of Tariq which also makes me think that’s also the reason why he didn’t kill him when he had the chance too.
Kanan may have been a very manipulative, but as an a adult, Ghost got the jump on Kanan, he sent him to prison to get him out of the way, Kanan obviously didn't see it coming that's the reason Kanan was so bitter..
If Ghost would have wanted Tariq in the game, Tariq would have been even better.
Well Tariq got the best of him too. Kanan and Dre weren't as smart as they thought they were. They used people to stay alive longer than they should have. While I don't agree Tasha should have made the call to kill Kanan at that point in the end probably the right move but idk he and ghost seemed to move past everything

Season 3: Lorenzo forces Dru to kill Everett, but his blood stained on his shoes during the emotional murder. Lorenzo, Cane and Tariq eliminate Mahoney and Evelyn after a short-lived war, and Tommy via the Serbs, becomes their new conect. Tariq and Diana will figure out first that Lorenzo is the only one that went missing and killed Zeke. They vow not to tell Monet but Tariq betrays Diana and let's Monet know what happened with Zeke (also to get Lorenzo out of the way). Monet then asks Cane again to smoke Lorenzo but he declines. Monet forces Diana to kill Lorenzo, but she can't do it so Monet comes in and kills them both and Tariq helps her dispose of the bodies😳. Cane finds out she killed Diana and pulls a gun on Monet, but Tariq comes behind Cane and puts a gun to his head and threaten to shoot him for Lauren. Cane cedes and is disgusted in his mom's betrayal, but vows revenge against Tariq. Davis chokes Saxe to death when he finds out he murdered his mistress and Theo took the fall, and Cane kills Trace as he was going to testify against him. Dru is arrested by Whitman and Blanca for the murder of Everret....
Season 4: Tariq is being stalked by Cash. However, Tariq catches him and begins to mentor him a little. But, Cash gives 2bit the info on Tariq who then reports back to Tommy that Tariq has been meeting with Tasha. Tommy orders the hit on Tasha (for snitching and for Tariq and the Tejadas being short on his payments due to Dru's case). Masked 2bit and Cash kill Tasha but leaves Yaz alive as they leave. Tariq regains custody of Yaz, while Davis and Monet is fighting to free Dru. Braden and Cane run their own mini drug operation as they separate from the Tejadas and Tariq, but Braden has a now unspoken hatred for Cane as he all but admits he killed Trace. Tariq asks Monet could she keep an eye on Yaz when he is unavailable. Cane, fed up, plans to kill his mom for what she did to the family. He breaks into his mom's home but finds Yazmine and she introduces herself as Tariqs sister and says hes Monets son. Cane smiles sinister and immediately informs Yazmine that "I KNOW SUM YOU DONT KNOW...TARIQ KILLED YOUR POPS". Yaz begins to cry as Cane is about to leave. Yaz says "I'm gonna kill him" and catches Canes attention. He begins to cheer her up and ask Monets whereabouts. She said she went to get something from the neighbor. Meanwhile, Racqui has Monet tied up in her basement across the street, beating her for killing her brother Dante (Mecca). Cane having a sudden change of heart towards his mom, senses the danger and remembers Racqui's red car used to be in the driveway across the street. He leaves Yaz with a revolver for her safety. He tells her to "aim at the bad guyss chest and shoot till they fall". He breaks in and rescues Monet and allows her to take the killshot on Racqui after neutralizing her. The duo reconciles and talk about Yazmine. Tariq picks Yazmine up and she vaguely asks him about Cane and their dad. Tariq puts it together and realizes that Cane has told Yazmine about what happen to Ghost. Tariq informs Braden that he needs to kill Cane due to what happened to Trace....and he tells him he still owes him for Lauren. Braden promises to kill Cane if he promises not to hurt Effie for what she did to Lauren. (This surprises Tariq as he always thought Cane had her killed). Tariq agrees, however. Meanwhile, 2bit finds out through Davis that Roberto is snitching on him (as they think Tommy is still dead) and asks Tommy for his assistance. Tommy tells him that Tariq got a "buddy in the can that's sucking up all my money, ask him if he can clip Roberto". 2bit has Davis reach out to Tariq, who then reaches out to Dru about clipping Roberto in the MCC. Dru owes Tariq this as he paid Davis for his fees twice. Dru shanks Roberto in prison to settle the debt and now Tariqs debt is settled with 2bit (for now). 2bit takes Tariq under his wing and teaches him how to throw hands....Braden confronts Cane while they're counting money as their business is booming. Cane threatens to kill him like he did Trace. Braden pulls out a Draco and warns Cane to apologize. Cane doubles down and tells Braden he's a pussy and he doesn't have the heart to kill him. Braden shoots but Cane hides and takes cover. Cane runs but Tariq pops up and shoots him in the legs. Cane shoots Tariq in the shoulder but the rest of the clip is empty (Braden emptied Canes clip before the confrontation). Cane laughs and bleeds and tells him "SHE KNOWS NIGGA, SHE KNOWS. AND SHE KNOW CASH KILLED YALL MOMMA TOO....AND YOU.. YO BROTHER CRIED LIKE A BITCH BEFORE I KILLED HIM CRACKA". Cane calls them Rich Bitches before Braden violently finishes him off. Tariqs arm is bleeding bad but he will survive... Davis McClane is about to enter his home when suddenly he is attacked and kidnapped. 2bit and Cash caught him for Tariq and Monet. They make him an offer...either he finishes representing Dru for free or he can go down for Saxes murder. Tariq has it on tape! Davis agrees to concur. Dru is released and is different monster once leaving prison....
Season 5: Tariq wants to finish the QCP in honor of Ghost. We find out that Effies parents were Famous and Corrine from RK. Famous is dead, but Unique is still alive and has been her plug for years... Dru kills Effie and shoots Braden in retaliation for Cane. Tariq and Dru play cat and mouse war half of the season. Cash admits to Tariq the truth about Tasha, and that Tommy and 2bit were involved in the hit. Tariq sets up and kills 2bit and retrieves his fathers watch off his arm. Dru has Tariq home assaulted and kills Tariqs grandmother but lets Yaz live. Dru eventually kills Monet at the end of the season once she admits to killing Diana. Yazmine is taken from Tariq again via the state after the death of grandma. Tariq and Dru have an icy confrontation.
Season 6: Tariq and Braden go on a mission to Chicago and kills Tommy for putting the hit on Tasha. They also get the drop on Dru, but they decide to let him live as they both have suffered tons of losses, both losing their whole families to the drug game. Riley finds out what happened to Saxe via Braden and she has Davis arrested for her uncles murder. Theo visits his brother in jail. Davis asks him to take out Braden, Riley, Yaz and Tariq. Theo and a goon shoots and kills Braden and Riley but Tariq escapes after killing Theos partner. Tariq visits Davis to have the hit called off, but Davis wants 3 million dollars to cancel the hit. Tariq, Cash and Dru form an alliance to hustle up the money (Dru never paid Tariq back for stealing his drugs in season 2). Jenny and Tate finally gets their witness to admit to seeing Tariq shoot Jabari Reynolds. She id's him via photo. They hustle up the money and gets it to Theo who gets it to Davis, who is eventually released on bail. Tariq asks Dru to kill Davis as he knows everything and could be a liability. Dru kills Davis and Tariq and Dru settle their beef for good. Both understanding each other's intentions. Dru expressed getting out the drug game to become a Tatoo artist. Tariq is headed into politics, but is still fighting for custody of Yaz. On the grand opening night of the QCP, Theo plans to smoke Tariq and Jenny is planning to have Tariq arrested for Jabaris murder. Tariq is alone in the building and gets a hallucination from his father Ghost. Ghost tells him he is proud but its too little too late as his time is up. Ghost disappears and Yazmine walks up. Yaz confronts Tariq for all the pain she has experienced of watching mom and grandma die. She admits that Cane told her about Tariq shooting dad. Tariq tries to persuade her but to no avail. Yaz shoots and kills Tariq right as Theo broke in and entered the building. The cops come immediately and arrest Theo but Yaz is nowhere to be found as the series ends....

Tariq didn’t need to learn the game from ghost, because he always destined to be ghost, just in his own way . He learned from some the biggest in the game and that’s what makes him one of the best characters. Tariq was the only one that can dethrone ghost. If anyone else did it it wouldn’t feel right. Tariq best ability is him being able to be professional and blend with any crowd. Season 3 will change the series I really see him bossing up

That part when Ghost said the last thing you wanna do is be caught between two woman. Crazy that later down the line Effie wants to be with Tariq but killed the "...love of his life". While Diana wants to be with him too but has also done some shady shyt to him too.
Kanan used Tariq to get back at Ghost because Kanan felt like Tariq was the son that Kanan had. Tariq had respect for Dre and Kanan because they never lied to Tariq like Ghost,Tasha and Tommy did.
Kanan didn't tell Tariq to pull the trigger. That's Tariqs defense mechanism to not feel guilty. Kanan was dead

Kanan lives in Tariq so basically Riq hated so much of his father and he already knew Kanan hated Ghost too so he thought doing it would make him feel bad for getting Kanan caught up with going into a shoot out with the police.

In season 3 of book 2 if we ever get a Ghost hallucination from tariq that would be crazy. Tariq has learned under Kanan Tommy ghost and Dre. Compared to Cane I believe Tariq would beat him but in different ways. an intelligent killer is also very dangerous too.

It very well may have started out as Kanan using Tariq as a pawn but there were so many parallels between Kanan as a kid and Tariq, Kanan had no choice but to embrace it and take him under his wing
Only reason why people think Tariq was more like Kanan is because we have no back story on Ghost. We only know bits and pieces of his past. We are learning about Kanan’s past thru his spin off. Kanan saw Ghost in Tariq and knew he would be even more ruthless but he saw him self as well that’s why he told ghost he was built for this life and learned quick.
Tariq was lied too by all his mentors but he learned valuable lessons from each one in turn. Kanan taught him to make his enemies think they won and be three moves ahead while Ghost taught him to live a double life and stay hidden and in plain sight, Tasha taught him to use his smarts and Tommy taught him to trust nobody. That’s why he will always come out on top, he’s run in circles nobody knows that he has. Then understand this, whoever killed Ghost father pulled him into the game, Tariq sought the game out destined to run it by the time he gets out from under the tejadas he will be have things on lock cause all of his weaknesses are gone (Lauren, Tasha, Yaz & Braden)

Had Ghost been honest with Tariq when he started asking questions, he could have avoided so much. You give kids a privileged life from drug money, hide the fact that you're still in the game from them and expect your kid to believe that the game is bad. Ghost said he was gonna take that charge until everything he wanted was in his face(lieutenant governor) then he lies to his son YET AGAIN. Mostly season 4,5,6 they were running around trying to fix their own and other players coverups.

I’m not sure but isn’t Ghost two steps ahead of everyone, like he sent Kanan to prison, which kanan didn’t see. He had a letter prepped for Tarique when he went to jail, He basically knew everything going on.
True and ignored his responsibility of raising his son which is why he was ultimately killed by Tariq
Kanan is the reason why ghost is who he is. And ghost’s cleverness kept his family in control, from being arrested (twice) being killed and a being boss in both business and streets. I feel like ghost made adjustments to his will/and trust fund before he died. He was one smart man to have everything planned even after death.

Tariq doesn’t trust Effie it’s a difference between telling someone something to get a result. Tariq will give you bones same thing Ghost did with Angela. Effie ran off to go do what she did the same thing Angela always did. Also Tariq knew they lied to Lauren to get her to wear the wire in the first place. I always say give a dog a bone and they will either carry it or bury it. Effie ran and told Cane so Tariq now knows Cane fell into it too I would be surprised if he wasn’t there but Cane should really lay low.
