I was a relatively solitary kid, I went to see Star Wars on my own at age 10 and Bladerunner at age 15. I remember coming out of the cinema absolutely awe struck. The effects, cinematography, music. I bought the movie poster at the cinema and proudly put it up on my bedroom wall. That was a happy time, this took me back, thank you.
I saw Tommy by myself, as well as Saturday Night Fever. The former, my parents dropped me off at the theater. The latter, I walked like five miles to a theater in the next town. I wasn't a loner, per se, but I didn't mind being alone. Same as today, as a 62 yr old. Cheers!!
This is absolute synth gold. I recently watched the film Bladerunner at the Apollo in Manchester with a live "electronic" orchestra playing the Vangelis soundtrack in front of the screen. Such a feast for the eyes and ears.
I’ve seen countless videos on how to create the vangelis blade runner intro on dozens of synths .. However, no one can show how it’s done with such Joy and love than DR. MIX!!
I love you, man. Every video you post is gold. I just wish I could toss some money your way. This has been my all-time favorite synth tone since first seeing Blade Runner in the theater when I was a kid (my grandmother would take me to ANY movie I wanted, no matter the rating). The joy on your faces as you unlock this tone is so, so sweet. I've been listening to Vangelis for most of my life, and his sound never gets old.
Oh yeah, the plain pulse modulation reminded me of the good old C64 SID days when this was done excessively in tunes like Yie Ar Kung Fu or Rambo First Blood part two - both by Martin Galway.
@@OliverBusse gotta say the Rambo II loading screen music is a very impactive piece of music. It really is a great song in its own right not just in the 8bit computer music genre.
What a great video, guys 🥳. I really like this type of tutorial: showing the capabilities of the synth (OMG, what a sound coming from the Moog…and the Reverb 😎), deconstructing the sound, and chatting together! Appreciate the hard work a lot 🤟!
Man... Doctor Mix is just the best. I literally come and watch his channel if I want to smile really hard that day. @Doctormix, keep doing what you're doing. You're an amazing person. I love your enthusiasm, your cheerfulness, your joyfulness, and you just really have the ability to brighten anyone's bad day. Every time I'm watching your videos, if my girlfriend is observing me, she'll say... Are you watching Doctor Mix again? Just because of the smile I'll have on my face.
As if we needed more reason to love Vangelis...well, we now have more reason to love Dr. Mix!! This was an amazing recreation of one of the most iconic synth soundtracks ever made!! Incredible sound, incredible art. Perfection, recreated! Now I need to watch Blade Runner again!
When I dabble and try to find some sound I have in my head, I usually quickly feel like 'No, I'm approaching it the wrong way, this isn't it, try something else'. But seeing you start from a simple saw to the end result made me realize I just have to be more patient and try more stuff before giving up on what I started.
Really and so good!! Back on 80's, Vangelis is strong with you! Claudio, are you ready for Heaven an Hell album deconstructed Dr Mix version style? This album, Vangelis stared his philosophy & his magical sound, still inspire us!
I've designed a handful of Vangelis emulations using my Virus TI. The motion and after touch is easy on the TI, given how many modulator sources and targets it allows. Getting the wall shattering low brass is also relatively easy on the TI with the supersaw, third oscillator and a sub oscillator.
Nice to see someone programming a synth in the chase of the original sound done on a synth from a different era. I really hope you remembered to save the patch. 🙃
I'm genuinly impressed by Louie. I mean, we all know Claudio and his deep knowledge in synth sounds and his out if this world sensitive ear, but Louie... man... no kidding, a real master tech.
@@Doctormix Of course the best maestro also has the best homies. 😉 Complimenti per la crescita del canale. Contenuti top, montaggio, top, riprese top, godimento top. Continua così. Come dice Lazzarin, VAI UOMO!!!
very good tips for a synth or vst that is already very well in tune. This won't work for vst's that already simulate a certain analog/vintage character as the phase modulation would be excessive, but the theory is entirely correct ! Use your ears
This was Vangelis in his majestic phase, but how many are aware of his roots? Vangelis & a mate that I bet your Nan knows, Demis Roussos, started a prog jazz-rock band called Aphrodite's Child. Their most famous, and therefore easily found on here, album is "666". It's fascinating to hear them both a few months before their solo careers took off. The album has been sampled to death and it's an interesting long term exercise spotting where snippets pop up. I'd advise the psychoactive of choice, a huge, comfy settee & some decent headphones before embarking onto the Aegean of 1972... (even if it was recorded in Paris!).
The Gforce OB1 plugin for logic on Mac does a very very good impression of the bladerunner sound. It’s excellent. Wait for it to go back on offer and it’s an excellent deal. (And cheaper than a moog muse or (heaven forbid) a CS80. ! Great vid.
I love these recreation videos, it's extremely interesting. On a different music type, would you fancy recreating Philip Glass's Koyaanisqatsi arpeggiators?
I generally like your content a lot, even if you're a bit too “hyped-up” for my personal taste ;) But the way you've nailed the sound here with the MUSE is great, well done and well explained. I really enjoyed it, thanks a lot!
Another great reconstruction from you!!! ❤ I'm a big fan your channel. Question: Have you ever done anything from Joe Jackson? I would get very happy with a worthy reconstruction of Steppin Out with current synths. I think you're perfect for this. Please consider ❤
Thanks for this gem. You may want to consider to create a video to honor two female composers (synthesizer precursors) Wendy Carlos (Tron and A Clockwork Orange soundtracks) Suzanne Ciani, Neverland
instead of doing by pwm on vco 2 ( with an LFO to control pwm) i simply use another sawtooth on vco2 detuned a little bit, that also creates that "phasing fx",...

Over 40 years later and we're still chasing those Blade Runner tones. Pure magic!
Classic. Just pure, legendary, classic.
I thought chasing it 45 years later with all the tools we have now is pure sad.

Whaaa? Where is this ? Are they touring in rest of Eu as well ?
Wow, this is a gold tutorial on THAT Vangelis sound.
Going straight to my Prophet 10 R4 with a Big Sky reverb😎
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
I’ve seen countless videos on how to create the vangelis blade runner intro on dozens of synths .. However, no one can show how it’s done with such Joy and love than DR. MIX!!
Plus it is done originally on Yamaha CS 80.
8:50 incredible how 3 notes can summon up such powerful memories and feelings. Wonderful.
Probably the 1st sound I wanted to recreate on an Hydrasynth at the shop.
Made the vendor smile : "Everybody wants that sound" 😅
Rest In Paradise to the great maestro Vangelis ❤ May his beautiful sounds live into eternity
The Muse is astounding. I love the way you can patch it like a modular, but totally digitally. It's a composer's dream machine.
Majestic sounds!!!! Vangelis was a genius ! My favourite albums : 1 Blade Runner
2 El Greco 3 The City
Love Vangelis , Love Moog and Love Doctor Mix

MG, I think, was one of the pioneers in tweaking the SID parameters while the notes were playing. He got a bunch of awesome tunes under his belt.
*_Thanks a lot Claudio for this incredible composer of all time with his incredibly beautiful sound._*
Thanks for the Muse tutorial. Have had mine since day one . Its deep.
As I don't have the budget for a Muse, I just rebuilt this with my MicroMonsta2. Thanks DM for talking us through this beautiful sound classic!

CS80 had polyphonic aftertouch - so yeah, and then some.
