When you're winning the theme plays the Opportunity. Then someone like Piastol casts Eternum, killing someone automatically! The theme changes dramatically. I was like !!!D:
Dark Suns A lot of the music pretty good, like the town theme and even the overworld which adds instruments according to each character joining. (I personally like Wren Transforms best.) The battle music is so-so but horribly implemented, and seems to change every single turn.
I loved how the song would react to how you're party was doing. There was no better feeling than getting a boss down below 25% health with you're party doing well and having the song change to the victorious sounding theme at 1:55... made the game so freaking enjoyable. When things were going poorly it added drama by changing the more dark and moody melodies at 1:30
For reals its why its sometimes difficult for me to tell if games have fights you're supposed to lose but can win or fights you can't win because I have survived some encounters where I'm literally reviving the whole party with one character praying the boss doesn't use his strongest attacks I think the game where I was carried harder than ever by one character is Trails part 1 Joshua was a murdering machine hit an immediate roadblock in part 2 without him in my party
I always liked how the music shifted according to how well you're doing. So, it could go from sounding like "He's on the ropes! Finish him off!" to "Man, you're hosed now."
Vyse: In dire need Akia: We call forth Drachma/Glider/Enrique: The power Fina: Of the ancients Vyse: To battle our foe Then que the dropping a moon on them from orbit.
Correct. Everything from the first two minutes is what usually plays, but it'll transition into what plays from 2:00-2:35 when you're close to winning. It'll transition back though if you start losing again, definitely a cool music concept that's very much underused.
Because Sega apparently hates money. We still haven't received a current gen port or remaster after all this time. Also yes, I realize that your post is 12 years old.
@@EvilLordCanas I also realize your post is one year old, i recently replayed the legends version of this game after enjoying on the dreamcast emulating it on my steamdeck. if this game was available to buy in HD format on current consoles or pc i would have bought it in a heartbeat for love of the spirit in it.
Glad I found this. Someone had been using this occasionally in his MMORPG battle videos. Usually the "Winning" part starting at 1:53 and this particular part had me running in circles on TH-cam. It sounded so darn familiar, but I believe that's because of musical similarities through my youth. Heck even 49 seconds into "The Adventures of Tintin" opening theme, you'll hear a close similarity, minus one note. So happy I finally found this... puts my brain at ease. 😂
Not many game soundtracks can compare to this game's. It's epic, and really compliments the feel of the game. I especially like how this track is dynamic to yours and your enemy's health. It actually feels like you're winning when that music plays, and you can feel the desperation when you're about to die. Fantastical. ♥
I loved this theme song. Each transition summed up the exact feeling you had at that time. And you feel so ready to kick ass when it goes into that last transition. Man, I miss this game!
This is the ONLY rpg I've ever played that motivates you during the battle if you're winning or stresses u more if you're losing with this song. Love it!
It's funny, around 0:04 to 0:12 gives me FF9 boss theme vibes, but given the two games were released three months apart (plus this one required two "tide of battle" variants to exist) it just ended up being coincidence.
0:00 you enter class on the day you get your test grade back. 1:23 you see your grade and it's even worse than you feared. 1:54 your teacher tells you that you can retake the test.
This music can really suck you in durring the game. When your doing bad, you know it and can feel the tension. But when you turn the fight around and the music picks up... greatest feeling! So great!
this game was F-ing hot!! bosses were challenging and the fights were fun, the thing i loved about the boos battle them was that it had 3 version, regualr one whan you just into the fight, one when your close to dying, and the other wich was really encouraging in fights occur when your close to killin the boss, i loved the ship fights too, needed alot of stragizing
I love it when the "You're winning!" phase kicks in. It's so...triumphant and uplifting. And SoAL* isn't an easy game too (but damn is it awesome and fun) so it's doubly jubilating! *I've only played the Cube version as it would be only chance to play it. Bought it off eBay as a used game at the price of a new one. AND I DON'T REGRET IT ONE BLOODY BIT!! :D
The main thing I love about this game is that the majority of the bosses were hard as fuck! I mean some were pretty easy, but most of them gave you a run for your money, and you'd have to go level up a few times and try it again. That's what made this game so awesome. It was a CHALLENGING RPG! I love challenges.
The music of this game was so great - one of the things I thought was absolutely brilliant about this game. Very few games are just pure FUN to play like this one was.
@Xxxfire45xxX I agree, you wouldn't think it'd make such a difference, but it does make you want to keep every character at close to max health and block every heavy hit just to keep the music up.
Even near the end of the game, I didn't get sick of that music at all.. It was such a great feeling when the music was kicking into high gear and your party is just non stop whoopin the bosses ass. It was ... just awesome! lol
It was brilliant as well because of the difficulty of some bosses (esp on legends) whilst not being ridiculous. Happened SO many times with Piastol before i was properly prepared.
I only got to rent this game, but I loved it like CRAZY!!! This was the one game that actually made me want to solve it right down to the last bit...and then play it all over again (course rented, so I didn't get to play it again). But this music is so good. I would always perk so happily when the ending part of this played, since it's like, "Yay, we're so close to victory!"
goosebumps :D i remember these battles very well. Was so nice how the music changed if u were in the advantage or disadvantage. I always ended the bosses with the advantage and then a super move. Good times ;_; sniff..
Special moves were awesome. My favorite was when Vyse calls out all the crew members to either do damage to the bad guy or heal you. It was like a sense of pride, seeing the Blue Rogues all join together.
This is the only game I can think of where I *hate* if the bosses aren't really hard, because the music does such a good job of making the final victory feel so well-earned.
This theme must be from the original Dreamcast version, because the music in the Gamecube port is heavily compressed and isn't as good as the original. Still, awesome theme.
@bongobob00 lol I didn't know about the blue rogues attack until like the fourth time I played through it =D it made the wanted pirates battles a LITTLE bit easier XD
@sealkitty00 its hard 2 explain but i couldnt afford to do delta shield. see the thing is without vyses pirates wrath i wasnt able 2 do any damage to her or her pet that was worth anything so i had to save my points i fought her under lvld, each character was subject to instant death every turn vyse and aika were the only ones who could withstand an attack while blocking so i had to use them as decoys.i had to keep as many ppl alive as possible to keep her distracted from vyse it was complicated
@Hazzerz Lol remeber when u had to fight that big ass cat with the guy in it that does Payday from pokemon? I had 1:26 on that entire fight. "Money makes the world go round!" everyones healths on danger.
Good times. I loved how drama the music was. I agree that they should do that with most rpgs. Starts of normal, but when you're losing the struggling music plays then when you're winning the victorious music plays. I liked how unqiue it was for that very reason. I always loved the musics on this game. Infact it sounds like real instruments.
This song, I don't know why, reminds me of the Turtle boss you fight in Yafutoma, despite all the other bosses in this game. Oh and that big blob in Valua - from the beginning.
Least favourite mini boss is Elcian or something it looks like those flying things that move fast but its blue with like red eyes you can find it its HUGE and hard to miss in side the dark rift just when your almost @ yafutoma. but its hard to beat T^T or runs ...
They haven't made a sequel to this game because it would be too glorious. OUR MORTAL MINDS CANNOT COMPREHEND THE GREATNESS OF A SKIES OF ARCADIA SEQUEL.
Whenever the boss theme gets more cheerful you're always like, 'Oh yeah, I got this now!' It's so catchy, it cheers you on kind on.. but then you have to deal with that hardcore evil music if your party starts getting slaughtered =(
i like how the theme changes based on the tide of the battle

Right? Such a nice touch. I can't remember any other game doing that.
+Sobergrey The Last Story does it--normal battles sound different when you're about to win.
But Skies of Arcadia does the best job of this.
When you're winning the theme plays the Opportunity. Then someone like Piastol casts Eternum, killing someone automatically! The theme changes dramatically. I was like !!!D:
Phantasy Star 3 did it but sadly, the music in that game is terrible.

Those battles where it'd constantly cycle between the victorious sounding theme and critical danger theme...

This is the greatest JRPG ever made that isn't named Chrono Trigger.

But just now I fixed that

And now... you stand alone.

WOW I forgot how much this music affected me. sitting here with tears in my eyes 10/10

any game that can have whistling in a boss theme and still have it sound epic is brilliant: what a cruelly underrated game
Vyse: In dire need
Akia: We call forth
Drachma/Glider/Enrique: The power
Fina: Of the ancients

Aaah, the nostalgia ...
Out of all the great JRPGs I've played this is my second favourite, the music and the plot of this adventure is so phenomenal.
I feel that this could fit when fighting against those optional bosses, that're alot harder than the storyline's final boss.
