CIVT, the west coast flagship station of the CTV Television Network in Vancouver BC in Canada, is owned and operated by Bell Media, a subsidiary of BCE, Inc. CIVT is the sister station to CTV2 affiliates CIVI in Victoria, CTFK in Terrace and CJDC in Dawson Creek.
It didn't just have a strong resemblance to the original Citytv-- Ivan Fecan, head of Baton at the time, had previously worked at City for many years. He was essentially Moses Znaimer's protege, and Moses alleged Ivan had outright stolen City's playbook. But ultimately it was simply a filler while they used the station as a pawn in their game to control CTV.
Well Canwest knew that when they merged with WIC because they need Alberta to the Global fold but they have to sell CKVU to CHUM because BCTV was included in the merger, and thus CKVU was the beginning of CityTV expanded beyond the Toronto independence to become Canada’s fourth network with the addition of A-Channel in Alberta and Manitoba followed by SCN Saskatchewan and CJNT in Quebec.
As far as I know, they've been using the sound effects ever since they got the package in 2014; but literally no other station in the network uses it. Really makes the newscast sound more tabloidly.
Emarsee exactly what I think. Here in Ontario both CKCO and CFTO used the same package without sound effects. I have no idea why they add them, I don’t think they make anyone want to watch the news.
@@jacnel They're still a very strong second place regardless of what gimmicks they're using in the intro. And for the graphics, the new font ruined it imo. Especially when the L3s are still 4x3, it just makes things look way smaller than it used to.
Correct the new font is strange, reminds me of the same font used by Toronto’s TTC for subway station signs. I don’t know why CTV isn’t using 16:9 graphics yet given that all of their local stations are now broadcasting in HD.

I live in SF bay area. KRON 4 is copying the CityTV playbook too unexpectedly. Independent local news station is popular in California.

The newest intro is absolutely awful why are they using so many sound effects?!
