      Constipated_ Dragonfly In general, italians that don't know ( or just lazy ) how letters behave in english tend to speak like this super catchy lady in the video, and studying how letters behave is something few people do in Italy. Also Italian has loads 'n loads of accents, even little towns each other far 2km have totally different accents, so you must count how all these accents behave in italian and tranfer that to English ( or whatever accent ); that makes isolating a general italian accent a serious issue, but, overall, it's pretty correct as most italians ( especially ones that have a less " powerful " accent ) tend to " forget " their native accent when in front of other italians and when talking with foreigners.Stereotypes are called like that because there's some truth in them.

    Yeah.. I'm from near Sicily Italy (No my parents weren't from the Mafia), and i understand when people are trying accents they 'overdo' it to get the accent across. I'm saying this as a native Italian speaker that this is not what we sound like. It's too much and stereotypical. If you spoke like this to an Italian they'd think you were mocking them, or being funny. Buona giornata. :)

    • @Nannonoys
      @Nannonoys 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's interesting how you say that like it's general facts, because I'm sure you know every italian, ever, right? There are obviously people speaking like this, depending on where in Italy you are, and there are also people who don't. As there will always be. Some might be offended, some might think it's funny and some might not even care. It's all different depending on who you're dealing with.
      Furthermore, it's incredibly hard to "hear yourself" in the sense that you can say "This is not what we sound like." it's like you're friends are mimicking you and you say "That's not how I sound!" and everyone just tells you it is.
      Point being, it's different, there are some people talking like this, I've met them, and I've also met people who are better.
      E una buona giornata a te.

    • @MrTrollolol98
      @MrTrollolol98 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Capisco il tuo punto di vista, ed è corretto. Considera però due cose:
      uno, riuscire a fare un accento in un'altra lingua, per i non madrelingua, è complicato, e a volte l'esagerazione aiuta a far capire. Inoltre, dal punto di vista di uno straniero, il vero accento italiano è molto simile ad altri accenti europei, e da straniero magari è difficile distinguerli e riuscire a trovare un equilibrio. Avere una pronuncia italiana più naturale è questione davvero "millimetrica" e piena di sfumature, e per gli stranieri non dev'essere facile.
      Due, non prenderla così sul serio. Questo video è indirizzato soprattutto a chi utilizza l'accento italiano per la recitazione e simili, quindi è normale che sia un po' stereotipato.
      Poi non dico che questo sia un grande tutorial, perchè non lo è, ma non c'è bisogno di prenderla così male.

    Hey. I'm italian, from Milan. And I like video this because most of the things are true. I understand people complaining, because in different parts of Italy people speak differently, but this should not be taken too seriously.
    What i see wrong: in our language we do have diphtongs. The difference with other languages is our diphtongs are always written with two characters like 'miei' (my, plural form), 'vuoi' (you want), 'stai' (you stay). So, ye, we can get wrong saying 'go' (because the diphtongs is hidden to us), but we really can't forget the 'y' in 'play' (because we see it)
    What i miss. The 'g' in the gerund like plain-g, walkin-g or the k in k-nife, k-night. For an italian speaker it is hard to think a consonant can be mute, because we really write only the sounds we say, and viceversa; since we start learning english from books there are a lot of guys learning it wrong.

      I agree with you but only up to a point. While she is mostly theoretically right about the oral posture and the technical explanation which comes along, she is way too exaggerated when she try to reproduce the way we talk. We don't sound idiot like she is suggesting. Unfortunately, I as an Italian can overlook it and not take it seriously but foreign people don't know the reality and will end up believing that we talk like that.
