I've been looking at many videos for plants and information and by far, Mike McGroarty is the BEST!!! No BS just clear, concise, thorough info and knowledge. What a find! And thanks.
I had a pair of Okatsune pruning shears that grew legs, loved those things. They were light weight, balanced, and the snap they made when cutting through a branch was very satisfying. I think they were less than my Coronas to boot.
Amazon also carries the Okatsune Precision Hedge Shears, 7 5/8" with a 100% rating on them. Thanks Mike for the video and good advice, I love quality anything.
I think it's like anything being offered on Amazon, you have to really search through the results for the best price as they are being offered by many different wholesalers and many will mark their prices hoping to sell at that higher price to someone that doesn't know they might be offered cheaper on the same site.
Mark Maysey got it. Thank you. I ordered a pair and I bought a medium hand pruners made by the same company. I read some reviews on the corona pruners and they didn’t compare to the one made by the same Japanese company that makes the shears
Some pro cutters use it too at our nursery every day and are happy with the sharp edge it keeps a long time when sharpened, especially for bonsai shaped Pinus sylvesteris for gardens which are a nightmare to cut with shears that are not razor sharp but i i don't like the models i've tried because the fact that when you make a cut there's no rubber stopping your force but metal on metal so it's not good on the wrists long term.
Love Mike's Backyard videos! This particular one was great for me - I went out afterwards and sorted out my garden! Thanks Mike! Also, sourced those shears within 10 minutes [I'm in the UK] and they have made such a difference, I'm thrilled with them.
Mike we've learned so much from your videos over here at the Forging Freedom Channel. Thanks for all you do. It's because of you and a few others that we got into plant propagation
Hey Mike. Of course to answer every question in the comments would be time consuming. Easier way is to do a Q&A segment on your channel where you just answer by making a video of it. Now that’s sensible. Love your knowledge on pruning.
I respect this and admire this. Because everyone uses mechanical machines on the plants. That can end up killing the plant eventually. But all scissor work is the best option for me
I don't think so. As he said in this video you can trim any time but I just watched another video by Mike and he said Spring is the worst time for a deep trim where you are cutting it down a lot. He suggests November after a cold freeze comes and the plants go dormant and are no longer growing.
I have those shears and the best. I noticed you had the same issue as I did with a really annoying thing with them, those stickers they put on the handles! They are so tough to clean off which is a real shame as the handles are stunning once the stickers are removed. Tip after trying for a long time, use wd40 to get the label off.
A full proof method if any sticker doesn’t come off easy hit it with a heat gun or hair dyer for a bit peel off, get some goo gone and Scott bright pad
OK, I am glancing across my subscription list page and come across the tiny picture of what I could have sworn was some guy holding an AK47 with a shoulder strap around his shoulder, then read the title about "how to trim bushes....." I figured it was a spoof video, or this guy was going to blow them off with his AK. :-) Then I looked at who's channel it was....... thought I'd share that with you Mike. :-)
He explained it's because he's mulching the beds today. You don't mulch and then prune, otherwise you mess up your nice mulch trying to clean up all the clippings.
Flipping the shears like that is a baller move
😂

Mark Maysey Amazon has the 7” and the 7 5/8”. The 7 5/8” is like double the money. What’s the big difference?

I hear the best time is during the spring... I wasn't aware and I did work on a shrub last fall. The shrub looks nice and full this summer.

Thanks Mario.

I was looking for a site to show me proper way to prune a blooming shrub without turning it into a ball. Our gardener turns everything into a ball.

Great.
exactly
I don't understand why a nicely blooming spirea was pruned? Just as an example?
He explained it's because he's mulching the beds today. You don't mulch and then prune, otherwise you mess up your nice mulch trying to clean up all the clippings.
Lol, top quality so I ordered 3 pair.
2:00 Oh no, he just said Corona and ordered three pairs of it...
😂this is NOT the biggest domestic issue in households 😂😂😂
CORONA HAND SHEARS??????
"genetically modified organism"
Did he say corona hand shears 😳
I don't grow bushes I have to trim! Problem solved. Although, I do prefer trimmed bushes😉
😖🤣
I think most of us prefer trimmed bushes. You rarely see messy bushes these days.
