- Cycling the world - Europe: 158 episode
In the eighth episode of my bikepacking journey in Algeria, part of my endless cycling adventure around the world, I leave the city of Tiaret after a two-day break due to a cold rainstorm. With the sun shining, I start crossing the hills between Tiaret and Oran, quickly transitioning from green hills to a desert landscape. Despite the relentless and growing wind, I enjoy the rural roads, crossing valleys and canyons with steep climbs and descents. Just before sunset, I find shelter in an abandoned farmhouse to escape the wind. The next day, I take a dirt road that leads to the most dreamy double track of my journey, sharing the stunning ride live on Instagram. As night falls, I camp on a hilltop plateau with wild young woods. Late at night, I experience a heart-stopping encounter when two motorbikes and a man with dogs approach my tent, prompting me to pack up quickly and move a few kilometres to ensure safety.

Sometimes even as an ecologist from Algeria i struggle to understand from where we as a hospitable nice people did get those trash throwing tendencies, its not our religion nor our costumes but still we the one doing that.
It's not like we have other people doing that in our country.
I think we have way long road to develope young minds to how important recycling and preserving green fields is crucial for the major view of our country.
I thank you for your humble persona Davide and for your no sugar lines toward us.
Your final review of Algeria is something to build on to see how things should go.
I hope things will change rapidly and trash will be managed in a way to preserve the landscape because it is beautiful
It's simple, most of these people are not used to live in cities.
During the french occupation most algerians were kicked out of the cities and found themselves living in rural areas.
For them, throwing a bag of plastic is the same as throwing an apple on the ground. In the past the apple would decompose but not the bag of plastic.
And you can see the ugliness of the soviet buildings too, people came to cities to benefit from free housing but these buildings are so bad and it just creates bad neighborhoods with high criminality and drugs.
The authorities need to be more pragmatic, we don't have any penalties regarding pollution, and if we do, they are not applied, add to that, the burden of clearing the trash is entirely put on small companies with limited funding, developed countries make sure to involve the public in the collection and recycling of the waste, you could be fined for even disposing the wrong material in a designated trash bin. Although recently we see many social groups and societies arrange cleaning events, but their effect is limited. But still, it is totally manageable.
Where there are villages and cities, there is pollution. In fact, plastic has polluted the Earth. But despite that, very beautiful pictures were taken for us.
I’m discovering my country through ur videos 😅😊
You should get a bike and cycle around as well 👊
People from the rural areas are build different, it is true in every country. Very good video once again! I noticed your subscriber amount has gone up nicely, i dont know why more people want to watch this insane italian stallion cursin around the globe😂
Thank you. The new viewers are mostly Algerians, they are eager to see how their country is portrayed by travellers.
I had a great but long day and now I'm watching your videos to relax. Thanks for making them David
I'm glad you find them entertaining! Cheers 👊

Cheers man! 👊
11:43 the man asked you do you need anything😂❤

Remnants of French colonialism unfortunately
Thank you for the great video
I didn't have a chance to visit this side of the country.
Now I'm 10 thousand miles away .
Keep doing the good work.
Cheers! 😊🙏

Please continue to say the truth about trash, they need to know the truth and maybe change ❤❤
The landscape is reminding me of parts of Australia. David i would like 2 ask u a question. What is the thing you liked the most about Algeria? B aware i love ur videos and ur way of telling the truth without gloves 😂
What I liked most about Algeria was the welcoming of the people.
@@DavideTravelliand one more question,: what are you afraid of?
I was only afraid the police would follow me! 😅 There was nothing to be afraid of.

The scenery in algeria are beautiful. But you havent seen the east(aurès) of algeria and the road between bejaia and jijel and the coast. Yo havent seen either the region of djanet, its like you are on another planet. The only bad thing is the trash everywhere.
Visa was too short to see more than this unfortunately
Ah gia' passato!
Hi Davide. FYI: You may have caught a UFO - something traversing the video frame very quickly between 1:00 and 1:01. It could have been an insect, of course, but to my eye it doesn't look like an insect fly-by. Very interesting and intriguing,
Great eye! Defo it's a UFO 😎
The small cloud on the top left yeah? Impossible to see, You have a special talent buddy🎉
It's a bird!
Very nice episode, and beautiful pictures , we need more David,
All the best
One more episode of Algeria! 😊🙏
I am Algerian and I enjoy the views with you ❤😂🎉

We enjoyed with you your trip in algeria 🇩🇿 welcome everytime and hope that you have enjoyed it too .... Message to our community , we are muslims and we should present good our relegion. Let us carry out cleaning campaigns for cities... It is shameful and disgraceful to the situation we are in and our country has become a tourist destination par excellence... Hand in hand to present a better face to our country... #My_country_is_beautiful_and_we_make_it_clean ❤
One more episode of Algeria! 😊🙏

17:20 i think it's not a mosque but a speritual place to pray its more like berber tradition i'm lebanese i visited algeria with friend and i was wondering about these places and she said that its places for meditation and praying ...
You are right in Algeria they don't like their drinks too cold
In Sudan they dont put them in fridges, in freezers. Sometimes you take a coke and it's half frozen 😅🥶

This small mosque on 17 mn is in fact a tomb where a man is buried and which is visited often.... and the on the walls is made by extremist people who are rightly defending the fact that we worship God and that we should not build or visit beings like us to this extent but they show it in a wild way .... excuse my bad english
0 m 59 toskana landscape in tiaret......tiaret in winter like russia 🙂
👌
I didn't understand what happened in the end.
Were they stay dogs or someone came with his own pets to annoy you ?
Two motobikes stopped on the road, they had tow dogs (they looked greyhounds dogs). The dogs run to my tent and started barking so one of the guy come as well. I was already out of my tent as I woke up when the motorbikes stopped. HE said something and left.
I decided to pack as quick as I could and move a few kilometres away just for safety measures.
@@DavideTravelli probably Sloughi dogs as it is more common than greyhounds.
HI Brother, your videos are very informative but please do not use F words. You might get more views and people will be able to watch your videos with their kids and families. Please do not take me wrong but I believe it might get more better with my suggestion.
Thank you for your feedback and for appreciating my videos. I understand your concern about the use of strong language. My channel reflects my personal experiences and culture, where expressing myself freely, including the use of swear words, is part of who I am.
I believe that swearing is a common part of society and that children encounter such language in various contexts such tv etc. Instead of shielding them completely, I think it’s important for parents to provide proper context and understanding about language and its use.
Welcome Friends

This dome that you entered is the grave of one of the people people know. He seems to have died three centuries ago or more. This song is found in abundance in the countryside, especially in western Algeria. It is the graves of worshipers.
Thank you, I thought they could be graves but I wasnt sure.
@@DavideTravelli
Thank you. As I told you, these are graves that you find high in the mountains and in the plains in western Algeria, and they are many. In that region, people used to push those who believe they are righteous into these empty places and seek blessings from them. This is forbidden in the Islamic religion, and yet people do it.
It is all over Algeria indeed.
About the black spots on the wall, those are residue from lighting up candles.
davide et un amoureux fou du loubia .....🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
Loubya is the best!
the man on 11mn 42 asked u if he can help you or if u want somethink
Trashville is apt. In 2024 the technology exists to collect and store / incinerate trash. Cmon Algeria.
LEBEN is a fermenté milk frequently consumed in the south meduterranean countries generallly with couscous.. The small mosquee on a hill is the place where is a grave of a religious man respected by the population. The green prints on the walls are made with à plant mixture called "Henné ".
d
ns man
it's not a davide video without a dish of loubia.
Lol I love it and it's cheap 😎
You wanted to buy milk you should say halib not laben, but you bought another product. The fault is not on the fridge you bought the wrong product. In Algeria we don't say laben like Egyptians we say halib. Laben is another dairy product called fermented milk.
I wanted to buy Laben but this Laben was warm and tasted off.
@@DavideTravelli Should have returned it though ... I wouldn't accept to get spoiled LBen.
@cocothefly I didnt want to argue as well Algerians gave me so much free food during my journey so it's okay to pay for a spoiled Leben.
The Little mosque is sainte grave, the grave is the middle of the Space. Pérégrination once a year &🎉

Thanks for all the bieuriful picture! Sorry for the trash... is is the results of brains not following the socio-economic developement of the country! We have obviously to work on that.
My pleasure, glad you like them.

Mind your head Dav 😂
Too late, I think I'll have brain damages from how hard I hit that wall! Already I wasnt the brightest to begin with ... :(
lben is not milk in algeria it's fermented milk and tastes sour
I've had Laben hundreds of times in Morocco and in Algeria. That Laben was off
bro that was not a mosquée its was someone grave
This is a failure of public waste removal, does this country even have garbage trucks and landfills? That bean soup (lubja) looks delicious and healthy, and nothing better than beans to keep you satiated.
I have seen some garbage trucks at least in big cities and yes loubya is great and very cheap!
Trashville

This green white mausoleum is not a mosque, secondly in the wall isn't a shit but a henna a natural vegetal pigment for hair in a sens for attracting a good luck and unfortunately there is a grave in the middle. This a old bad believing in Holly men . In fact, this kind of building is not acceptable in islam. That's all folk. A random Algerian, bonne serra

You missed a lot of very beautiful places / I don't know you took the unwanted roads and not good / you had to take a geographical guide with the beautiful places and roads that you really missed unfortunately
And we're so sorry about the garbage. What a shame.

This is qobat elwali/ the shrine of the holly . Its a pagan believe in all north africa. When a good man dies they build for him the shrine. Go inside and pray to him. The things you did see on the wall is Henna a plant like tea leaves made dry u make past of it and ornment your hands and often used to be thankfull to God/s .
Mostly ladies will go inside pray to the holly man and make this henna while praying for good health or eventual husband . They did also put the flag to just aclaim the prayer in shrine belongs to us algerians because during the moslem fundamentalism war 1990 to 1999 the moslm fundalentalist will kill each person praying in shrines. So its the pagan algerian revenge its not allah of mecca he us far away 😂
Thank you for explanation!

such a shame that they throw trash everywhere especially when the country has some nice views and landscapes. sure the people are very nice and hospitable but it must get annoying when you always get stopped by people who want to feed you or know where you're going
I like to get to know new people and cultures. I feel very privileged that people want to know who I am and what I’m doing and share meals with me.
@@DavideTravelli i like to hear that since it sounds very open minded. I am visiting Algeria this month and your videos have given me a great idea for what to expect. I will follow your journey through other countries and see which ones peak my interests in XC.

@@DavideTravelli ah ok 👍 think you for the clarification.
nice Video, but just make sure you to blur women that wears hijab because of our tradition , this act maybe offensive to us
Shut the fk up
I disagree. Don't talk in the name of all Algerians.
I don't own women's image, they tell him if they don't want to be filmed. I don't decide for them.
It’s getting very hot these days , everybody comes out in the morning to by some groceries for dinner or if they work or for some urgent business than never to be seen until night time 😂 where it’s much cooler
And nobody comes out in the afternoon, it’s the period of the day where it’s more than 30 degree 🌡 outside even in national TV they advise us to avoid walking under the sun
Also I’m really disappointed, I don’t know where this mentality of trash came from but I think it’s industrialization because there was a time people used baskets 🧺 also 17:54 that was a grave 😅 of someone who probably fought in the war of Algeria 🇩🇿 against French occupation 🇫🇷 that’s why there’s an Algerian flag and some Quran verses hanged on the walls inside or some important Islamic scholar (like a priest) from centuries ago that’s why the shape of that building is like a mosque 🕌 and there’s a lot of these in mountains and other remote places
The hotter the better!
