i actually did find this on my Volvo by coincidence. If the front seat is down like this, you can transport things up to a length of 2,40m. This car is amazing, i love my V70 2002 so much.
These are such good, long lasting cars. And the one thing that CAN kill these cars (a leaking heater core) is fairly easy to replace, left hand drive or right hand drive. These cars strike the perfect balance of all of these things: 1) cheap to buy 2) very long lasting if cared for 3) much safer than other cars of same age 4) very practical load lugger.
Hi Dave, Thanks for your comment! All very good points. I love these cars too. You are right about the heater core being very important and relatively easy to replace. I think a lot of people tend to ignore the low coolant light thinking its just a problem with the float sensor in the expansion tank. Big mistake! What they don’t realize is the coolant temperature sensor is so high in the engine that it doesn’t give an accurate reading when coolant is low. Then the engine overheats causing big problems!
Hi all, I am a new fan of Volvos. Just bought my first Volvo this year (a nice '04 XC90). I am pretty certain that these options will work on my XC90, will test this and let you know.
I think gen3 started in 2007. Unfortunately I don’t have access to a gen3 to take a look. I was able to get a friend see if her 2003 xc70 wagon has the same front seat latches. It does.
I didn't know about this! And I just found out it also works on my 2004 V70 with power passenger seat, with just a slight variation on removing the lower rear cushions from their bright-red lock clips. I was surprised how heavy they are, so now I"ll have the mental illusion of improved MPG (but will still be wondering about the mindlessly erratic fuel gauge).
Nice! I didn’t know the trick also works on the 2004 v70s. I have a friend who owns a 2004. I’ll be sure to pass the info along! Thanks for commenting!
@@fiveable Yes , my v70 Is now able to accommodate a double size inflatable mattress , I'm ordering the window blackout suckered, insulation window panels for all my windows .. my v70 will then be a perfect ,stealth micro camper . This has saved me upwards of £10,000 as I was gonna buy a micro camper .😎👍
@@davidjacobs828 That's great! Did you flip the driver's side seat forward to make room for the mattress? I think v70 wagons ( I think they are called estates in the UK ) would make great micro campers! Volvo got it right when they named it with a V for versatility. Unfortunately my v70 is parked with a bad transmission. I really miss driving that car. By the way, I wasn't sure if anyone would find the seat flip video helpful. Comments like yours make me glad I posted it!
Thanks for this. I heard about this feature on the first review of the Volvo 850(as it was first called). Really useful. I don't know if the modern Volvos still do this.
Thanks! I have a p80 but most of this video helps! Quick question, your rear wheel arch, just before it you have residue from something sticky, what was it? I have the exact same patch of brown used stickiness and I cannot get it off 😅
Yes, mine has what used to be thick clear stickers on the rear wheel arches toward the front. Pretty sure they were put there to help prevent chips. The stickers are discolored and look pretty bad now. I never removed them because it looked like it will be a pain to get all the residue off. Unfortunately the car is parked with a bad transmission now. I really miss driving my V70!
@@fiveable aaaahhh mine may be the same then! Thank you, yeah I've just gotten this 850, love it to pieces, but scared it'll bankrupt me at the same time 😅
Yep, complete with head rests and seat belts. My kids loved riding back there when they were small enough. We called them “the back-back” or “way back” seats.🤓😊
Are you thinking of making one into a mini camper? I think it would be possible if you built some sort of platform to give support across the gaps between the front and back seats.

Thanks! This helped me make the decisions for the next surf waggon! Didn't know they did this! Better than a van 👍🏻

Glad I could help!
Do you know in gen 3 works the same?

Oh, so nice that you checked! Many thanks!
Good tip! I have a XC70 and did not know. Thanks!
So very cool! I'm going to use it to carry a ladder today!
Nice!
Thank you!

Also works on my 1998 V70XC, now I have even more room for car-camping - Much Thanks for the tip! 🚗
Glad the tip worked for you too! Thanks for commenting and sharing that it works with 1998 V70XC too!
I have the power seat as well and was wondering how this would;d translate. Thanks for the info.
sweet tip just bought one plan on taking her on roadtrips
Thanks Alex. Hope you have fun traveling in your V70!

Yes ,I tipped the front seats forward ...perfect result .😎👍
You can remove the headrest with one move, there are two bumps in the backrest, pinch them and push up, headrest pulls out.
Maybe that’s on a seat from a different year or model. Can’t find any “bumps” on my 2000 v70 seats. Thanks for commenting!
No, headrests are not removable, part of Volvos safety design philosophy
@@adamap2796 Yes you can… 🤔

Thank you for your kind comment! 😊
This is great. I've got three V70R's at the moment. Do you know if this is possible with the electric power seats?
Three V70Rs, nice!!! I have never tried it on a V70R with power seats. Would love to know if it works on those too. Thanks!

The very back has some hidden seats too above the tire

For real lol.
The same trick with the front seat can be applied for Volvo V40 (VW, 645)
Cool! Thanks for the info!
Why you don't present an overview of the whole cargo space once the rear bench is down, to give some folk a sense of its potential.
I'm 6'3 is there any chance that I can sleep in one of those Volvos?

@@fiveable Yes it's one of the cars I'm looking to buy its on my shortlist
👍
Is that work for Volvo 960 or S90?
Not sure, never tried on one of those.
This alsp works exactly the same on the P2 V70
Good to know! Thanks for the info!
does this work in the 850?
