I like the scent of Boos Board Cream...Smells a bit like honey...and leaves a beautiful sheen. I have one cherry and one maple Boos Blocks, I use the Mystery Oil per bottle instructions, the the Board Cream, both boards look amazing. The maple board is 12 years old, the cherry is 4 years old.

Both products are mainly mineral oil based but the difference is the amount of solids used. Mineral oil is used as an end grain sealer by penetrating to reduce water absorption but over time will leach out which is why it has to be food safe. The solid waxes are the main hardeners and sealer to reduce leaching and provide a sealed surface. Boos cream has higher solids which is why they charge more and that can be seen when the two creams were applied, Howard cream started to bleed into the pores due to higher amounts of mineral oil. Over time you will notice both products will cost the same since you will have to apply it twice as often as the mineral oil will washout sooner.

The Howard butcher block conditioner says to let it sit for AT LEAST 20 minutes, and to initially apply 3 - 4 coats to cure the wood. I've found letting it sit over night helps a ton.

Yes, I also let it sit overnight or I'll put in on first thing in the morning and let it sit until dinner time. I like to let it completely dry after washing.

Do you have to with the Boos also use their mystery oil which would be even more money?

If the board is super dry, use the conditioner, you don't need to use both. Use the mineral oil to keep it hydrated in between washings.

@@Kinsiderations Per Howard's instructions your supposed to use both. Howards can be found at Lowes. If you're a Veteran you get the military discount making it cheaper.

Check Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, local hardware stores. Many of them sell butcher block oil and conditioner. No need to wait for shipping.
