‘It rained bombs’-As over 50 bombs were thrown using drones in Manipur, state gears up to counter

- It was here that on 1 September that over 50 bombs were dropped allegedly using drones somewhere from the hills, followed by firing and even arson. The bombing, police sources said, went on for over two hours. According to the police, this was the first time that high tech drones were used to deploy Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) against security forces and the civilians, which marked a “significant escalation”. Manipur is burning with ethnic violence over 16 months now - the fighting communities are Kukis who are mainly Christians and Vaishnabite Meity. Lots of lives are lost in the resulting self goals among both the communities; besides a no. of security personnel lost their lives.
State BJP Govt has been trying to douse the mistrust between the two communities but so far could not achieve the expected results. Recently, the situation worsened when drones were used by some group to their advantage. GOI has been in touch with the situation but expected results are not forthcoming. It is the expectation of all peace loving Indians, Manipuris included, that PM Modi shall have an on the spot study of the crisis and take necessary measures to diffuse the crisis at the earliest.
