Even though the filter was extreme, we were still able to see the movement of the dancer(s) due to the light/dark contrast, so it was more satisfying than a filter that blurs or blocks parts of the image. There were even certain features, like the light flashes responding to the beats, that stood out because of this particular filter! (2:14-2:23)

Jimin’s music is nothing like JK’s; his artistry, his versatility is unbelievable! He is the crowned King of KPop and best dancer in KPop (trained in everything from hip hop to ballet and everything in between). You should check out the music from his album, FACE; it is his story of what he went through during the pandemic…a masterpiece! Specifically, you check out Like Crazy (#1 Billboard in April 2023) and Set Me Free Part 2. He has broken records with his album…still is one year later.

Jk and Jimin's songs are very different styles, but they both are uniquely superb. Jk might be commercially more successful recently and give you happy vibes, but Jimin's songs are usually more meaningful and stays in your mind longer most likely because of those lyrics. I love both of them.

I found it all very interesting, Jimin wrote much of the song himself. The "lie" is that he did not feel good enough and everyone was praising him. His voice is very beautiful and expressive. A recent song of his is Like Crazy, or older solos inclde Filter and Serendipity, both excellent as live performances. I also love his song Letter, which is very different and feels very intimate.

Omg omg I love love so much your reaction cause you a truly musician non biased and I like that. LIE is my baby, is what drove me into Jimin and after BTS, so I get so emotional when I see a true musician reacting and understanding the genious behind its creation, cause if you don’t understand music there’s so much you lose. Jimin did with LIE what he did on the 6 months of training to be a part of the group, he made an almost disaster situation into a masterpiece killing it like a pro. They gave him the sample of this music, he was like “what will I do with this” but Jimin was fed with classical music tru contemporary dance, ballet and there’s pop tru popping.. he knows his classic music and he knows the era of their birth, the changing that each era created, so he made a primordial soup with this music by blending the classic with pop and rock and a hint of Spanish with a valse tempo that is just a work of a genious 😊😊… and he keeps doing it, all his works are one of a kind so as him.. amazing reaction, thx you for the master class.. and I hope you get to know the rest of the gang cause each BTS member is number 1. I’m a 100% jimin biased but BTS is 100% the best! Have fun ❤❤

What never ceases to hit me hard with Lie is when the change to major happens. It’s the chorus - “Caught in a lie.” The lie is the happier, upbeat sounding part. It’s brilliant but also awful to think about.

I think that set me free pt 2 is best seen music video for artistic value but the live performance is the best to showcase his vocals. That’s my opinion. Maybe you can react to both?
Jimin is the greatest artist of all time and i dont even think he grasps just how amazing he is. Lie is truly the greatest songs to ever grace kpop
Ohooo! Lie is a good introduction to Jimin. Thank you for the reaction. 😊 If I can add something on the lyrics/meaning of the song, I have always interpreted it as juxtaposing what we as fans see (the perfect, happy image that Jimin portrays, i.e the chorus in major) and what he actually feels (the rest of the song). The distortion comes from the fact that the two sides are so different. Idols in South Korea are held to the highest standards in terms of beauty, fitness, work ethic, behaviour, you name it. So he is caught in a lie because he has to keep up with appearances, regardless of his internal struggles. As an addition, the fans are called Army, and they are waving light sticks called Army bombs. If you look for a photo of a BTS concert you will see how beautiful they can look. It is often called "the purple ocean", as purple is the colour of the fandom. 😊 Finally, a suggestion for a song where you can see all members singing, including how high Jimin can go: Your Eyes Tell (in Japanese).

So glad to have come across your reaction. It is a very educated description of what the structure of Lie is. This song and performance is truly a masterpiece. Jimin is a consummate, captivating performer. The Lie that he is caught in, is doubts that he is not good enough. The constant second guessing, is the torment and desperation, that is expressed so well in his voice and dance. Jimin dances on point to every single beat. This song on the 6/8 orchestral beat is so beautiful and different from most pop song structure. He is called the rookie's bible, other idols emulate his songs and performances as a right of passage. No one can come close to cover his work because he is just so unique. His visuals and dance lines are breathtaking and mesmerizing. Jimin is a counter tenor.. he uses his chest and head voice with good versatility across the low, mid and high register. His dance and voice is a rare treat from the generic stuff we see and hear these days.

About his voice, this is Jimin in his lower register. He usually sings the highest parts in BTS songs, that's probably why you assumed it wasn't only his voice here.

I enjoy everything Jimin
There is nothing I love more than listening to musicians analyze Lie. As a musician myself, I think the way we listen to and process music is a little different than the casual listener. When you make music, read and perform music you are more knowledgeable of all the moving parts. I really enjoy listening to reactors with this perspective and knowledge geek out over it. Lie really is an impressive and unique song. The dramatic choreography, composition, and lyrics all work together to convey the song's theme. Thanks for the reaction. Magnificent classical sound, deep lyrics, amazingly expressive vocals, beautiful and captivating choreography and mesmerizing Jimin. Jimin had full participation in the writing and composition of this masterpiece.
Each solo in the Wings album is related to the BU (bangtan Universe) aka the fictional storyline witch run threw MV and albums since "I need you", specially the short films. So the lyrics of Lie fits to the fictional character played by Jimin but it's also related to Jimin himself, the struggles he faced, and we can feel the authentic emotions and pain. The Wings album revolves around the concept of Hermann Hesse’s novel, ‘Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth’, a coming of age piece that uses myths and references to follow the journey of a young boy to self-realization. One of the key points of this book is the importance of accepting the “dualism”, the idea of two opposing forces (maybe good and bad or truth vs fake) that are both necessary in life. This idea is portrayed by Jimin’s solo where we see an inner fight between his two sides, his true and insecure self, and this mask that he created to face the world but is swallowing him up (as in the verse : the prey vs the snake, you were spot on ) . It’s a complex song where metaphors, vocal and music composition details mix to vignette a cry for help.("caught in a lie" is the only line of the song in a major key (usually associated with happiness), while the rest of the song is in a minor key (usually associated with sadness, mystery, unease). So, the line "caught in a lie" is itself a lie amongst the rest of the song - the "happiness" is a lie) .
This song is a portrait of what struggling with your identity, insecurities and inner demons is. RM explained that Jimin used to blame himself for all the failures and shortcomings, having thoughts like “I’m not good enough, I can’t do this” and that he wrote the song reflecting that mentality. Knowing this reflective way of working to deliver an honest history is why this song is so important for so many ARMY (BTs Fandom's name) . Jimin's journey to self love is so inspiring for a lot of us. The choreography and interpretation is incredible too .Jimin seems to 'punch the beat'. Lie has been popular all through the years, and is refered as a rite of passage for rookie idols, they cover LIE as a show of their vocal and dance capabilities, as the song is considered to be highly technical in both aspects.

From what I've heard Jimin say, the song is about the trappings of perfectionism and how it always grabs a hold of him no matter how he tries to set himself free from it. The change from the minor to major cord here serves the feelings well and you picked up on that brilliantly. At the end he gets a moment of relief but he has not fully freed himself from it. A later song of his called Set me Free Part 2 (no part 1) touches on these themes again. This time we get the cathartic final butterfly moment so to speak.

He holds the title of the king of kpop for consecutive years as he has been an inspiration and a role model for other idols. He has a unique voice and in my opinion his stage presence is the best. All of his songs are different from each other, he likes to experiment and isn't afraid to try various genres. I hope you can react more to his solo songs❤
and to think 'some' people have said he can't sing but then some people say non of BTS can sing which begs the question do they have issues' with their hearing?
I've always loved how the cord switches to major as soon as he starts singing about lies... as if the happier aspects of himself are the lie. Jimin is a counter tenor. His speaking voice is actually fairly low and he can sing in a lower chest voice as well. His tone is one of the most unique voice I've ever heard.

I am not very involved with K pop music but I am very aware of BTS. Jimin along with the last 3 began their 18-22 month mandatory military service in December 2023 after there was a modification for groups like BTS allowing deferral until 30. It was quite a story in the music world at the time.
The working culture of the Asian groups is slightly different from other areas. Besides being formed by their labels they live together that develops a tight performance both musically and in dance routines.
It is quite stunning to experience.

@@SirHairlessthey lived together for almost 8y I think. So yes, you can say they grew up together. They a really amazing family. They serving military right now, Jin is almost done, Hobi next, but the resto we will see them in 2025. Hope you enjoy your journey, cause it’s amazing ❤

We know suga, jin, jk and jm where the last to live the dorm, when they actually did it I don’t know. But joni was the first to buy his house in 2018 if I’m not mistaken.

Lie is the lie Jimin's inner voice told himself - that he wasn't good enough or not talented. This song recognizes that insecure side of himself -and recognizes that the belief that he wasn't good enough or untalented was a lie. Jimin is reputed to be a perfectionist.
i remember the reaction of a different musician who was like "the key change IS the lie" and that never left my brain ever again and i started to really enjoy the reactions of professional musicians. thank you so much for the indepth analysis. i really enjoyed it.

As far as JIMIN goes, he is a “WORLD CLASS” dancer meaning he is not just hip hop or pop…he is trained in Hip hop, street dance, popping and locking, ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary dance.
Dance professionals globally refer to him as a MASTER OF DANCE as well❣️
JIMIN is a GENUINE person with a heart of gold 💛💛💛💛💛💛
He is very dedicated to his craft, works harder than all the other members , supports the other members emotionally and mentally, donates his time and money to many causes, became the “birthday fairy” for the group, supports each member by attending their individual concerts, gives of himself freely and the list goes on and on❣️He is an OUTSTANDING YOUNG MAN AND PERFORMER always leaving us wanting MORE❣️
Please also watch his MV of “CLOSER THAN THIS” which was dedicated to us ARMY’s before he entered the military in December to fulfill his 2 year mandatory service❣️ Even in the military he is outshining other recruits because he is dedicated to whatever he chooses to be❣️ He won an award at military camp for the most outstanding way he performed during basic training❣️
HE TRULY IS AN ALL ENCOMPASSING ARTIST WITH VERSATILITY TO MATCH❣️AND AN “ANGEL” whom I have often referred to as a gift from God sent to teach us ALL how to be better people…
Ps….he has a BLACK BELT in Taekwondo and studied Kendo he for 7-8 years❣️He has also been voted KPOP MALE IDOL OF THE YEAR for 5 consecutive years and THE BEST KPOP DANCER for 6 years as well…

Jimin has a very high tenor voice and you're right he does get utilized often for that in BTS. But, all 4 singers of the group have incredible vocal range, even the baritone (V).

Wow, haven't heard BTS since my female students talked me into having a BTS dance party the day before winter break, which was many years ago. I had to placate the boys by allowing them to play soccer on the field instead. 😂

Great reaction of Jimin's Lie. I find many musicians can appreciate the complexity of the composition of Lie. Jimin contributed to the writing of Lie. I enjoyed your dissection and analysis of the song. Most musician reactors have a lot to say about Lie. You are the first that noticed the beginning sample from the other song.
I like how you explained what was happening with the chords during the song.
Jimin and BTS are diverse, and you will see that if you react to more.
There is a studio version of Lie, that was redone by the original producer, DOCSKIM, that should be listened to. It obviously sounds better without the crowd cheering. It's worth checking out.

Very good reaction, the technicalities, you were able to get the message of the song. You are good. Jimin I think exactly wants to convey how a lie is consuming him. What you see is a lie, not his true persona. I have seen students of classical music and a jazz expert reacts to LIE. They said minor is usually used to convey sadness and major feeling happy. So when the last part Lie turns major from minor... is a LIE!
Jimin makes you feel emotions not just in the way he delivers the song but conveys through his dance. He is a trained contemporary dancer so even in dance he combines modern and hip hop choreo. Yes, his voice is used to add texture and impact to their songs.

Thank you for the reaction and very interesting musical analysis. Someone already recommended Jimin's two songs (Set Me Free Pt.2 and Like Crazy) from his solo album "FACE" to react. I would actually suggest reacting to all songs of the album in the original order to follow the story, lyrically and musically. The instrumental arrangement is incredible.
The other solo songs by Jimin are also extraordinary.
