The glottal singing after the soprano part is a traditional singing style from the region he is from being Kazakhstan. Dimash likes to mix local traditional sounds - not just singing - into his music. When it comes to suggestions, I'm really partial to "Autumn Strong" from the Singer 2017 competition. For Dimash's standard it is quite demure with only little vocal gymnastics, but it is amazing in his capacity to project emotions. On the other end of the scale is Diva Dance which shoots up and down his vocal range.
I will say it here Dimash has the potential to take music, in a good way, to a whole new level like the music greats of the last two hundred plus years! I studied voice with one of the greatest voice teachers of the 20th century.
As a musician (guitar/piano), I'm in awe of his many talents: songwriter, composer, arranger, rapper, multi instrumentalist (10), poet, (as a teen would compose music to great Kazakh poets & writers), self-driven/serious about music since 5, (would cry if they took his little cassette player/tapes away-he HAD to hear music to go to sleep), very self-driven w/perfect pitch (& gets all the little nuances of songs), children's advocate, Kazakh Youth Embassador & Cultural Embassador to China, his originals are amazing, etc!😊
Did you notice 22 second belted run near the end? While most people focus on Dimash's incredible range and his complete comfort level in each range, I think there are three often overlooked aspects of what sets him apart. First, the can seamlessly transition between each of his ranges, up or down it doesn't matter. Second, in each of his ranges he has the ability to change the texture or flavor of a sound at both loud and soft volumes. And lastly, Dimash puts so much emotion or "acting" into each of his songs. Even if the video has no subtitles, the viewer still can understand the basic emotions within each song. It is this emotional experience which draws in the audience and makes a Dimash someone that is truly shared between performance and audience and performer.

Russia ignores him Dimash got Grand Prize In 2015 Slavic Bazar and he perform on the same stage with Russian singers and he never was invited perform in Russia because most of them lips singing.Thanks to Maestro Igor Krutoy who invited him to Sochi. Dimash loved by millions around the world. I think everyone deserves to listen him once in the life.He is outstanding singer and artist The best in the world
One thing I noticed is that I finally realized that after he does that middle eastern sounding thing and then those notes where he shouts out those for notes before he slides way up high. That last note that he slides up to the top. . .and then he does the run down the other side. . . That's ALL ONE BREATH. Listen again, he doesn't take a breath. I can't believe it.

Dimash has so many things going for him. He's intelligent, kind, confident and humble at once. He was blessed by circumstance (having come from a highly musical family that encouraged his musicality - he went to the best schools, etc). On the other hand, he took full advantage of all of this, and I have no doubt that his work ethic has made him into a once in a generation phenomenon. You aren't just born knowing how to sing classical, opera, pop, rock, folk or sing in at least 8 languages or become an expert in just as many instruments. Oh yeah and also martial arts and swimming on the side. This is someone who is laser-focused in such a way most of us will never be. I'm glad to witness it. Such skill gives me hope of what a human can truly be if they make the most of their opportunities, passions and work ethic.
And on top of all that, he graduated from the Kazakhstan University of Arts with a masters degree. He will go on with the aim of becoming a doctor of arts.
Only recently, I fell into the Dimash rabbit hole. I knew his name last year, read that he was similar to Vitas, whom I heard a decade ago, wasn't driven to listen to his actual singing. Then, just a few weeks ago, when his cover of the French song 'SOS' popped up on my TH-cam recommendations, I clicked. It was like a drop-kick to my gut. I had to find and listen to everything from Dimash. Here's a fun little exercise: listen to Gregory LeMarchal's cover of 'SOS.' That's the gold standard for how 'SOS' is supposed to be sung. LeMarchal has harvested years of praise and adulation for that song. Then listen to Dimash pull that paradigm up by the roots and set it on fire. I'm no expert in singing, so I wanted to understand more about what he is doing, listen to expert people remarking on it. That's why I came here, and also visited the channels of other voice coaches to hear their reactions. I enjoyed your reaction to 'Sinful Passion' very much. The unusual run towards the end of this song is a technique associated with areas of the world with a strong Muslim influence (including Kazakhstan). It's said to be quite difficult to master, and if it has ever been used before in a French song, I don't know about it. One of the things I love about Dimash is his use of extremely varied vocal techniques to tell a song's story. He also establishes dramatic tension in many of his songs and lets it build until you just know you're about to hear the musical equivalent of fireworks, explosions and shattering glass. Then he delivers. It's wonderful, really.

Yes, truly, he is shattering all kinds of barriers and pre-conceived notions, and doing so in the most enjoyable way, right?!? It's so much fun to also know that he is absolutely his own man -- he is determined, knows what he wants, and quietly, nicely, makes it happen. (He has shown, publicly, firmly, kindly, that he won't be manipulated.) If you want something new to watch for fun, go check out a new video of his own song, "Give Me Your Love Tonight." He is learning dance in the last two years, and it's remarkable for as tall a guy -- with long feet -- as he is! He also has that forward, buzzy tone. That masked voice that he uses when he starts belting up high. Plus he also has that very deep chesty opera, baritone-ish voice or whatever range that he uses With all the vibrato. It's that dark and heavy voice, you know what I mean. The dude uses all his vocal colours in every song. And there is the fact that he did this very long run after that a crazy high note toward the end. I think they say it was about 25 seconds in total without stopping to breathe. Incredible.

Consider this versus the many commercial simple fly by night songs and arrogant personalities out there. This is why his Dears (us Dears) are undyingly loyal and devoted.

I agree “yummy” is a good word. He actually came in 2nd in The Singer. He did win several performances on the Singer. He is scheduled to be st Maestro Krutoy’s concert in October in NYC. Should be amazing there is quite a line up of singers to be there. They are talking of a solo concert at Madison square garden around the same time. This is the festival "New Wave" in Sochi (Russia). There was a competition of young performers and concerts of Russian artists. Dimash acted as a guest at the jubilee concert of the Kazakh group "A-studio". Baigali Serkebaev - the author of the song - plays the piano here. It was a phenomenal performance! Superb low notes at the beginning, unreal high notes at the end. And again the oriental tones in the song! Melismа in the finale together with the last "Дай" - 23 seconds! Dimash used kazakh singing technique. Saha people ( Russia) uses this technique too.
This was my first Dimash video in Sept 2018. It has been a never ending Dimash roller coaster ever since! Now I am living for a chance to see him in concert.
The Slavic Bazaar takes place in Belarus. Dimash came in 2nd in the Chinese show "Singer 2017" (formerly "I Am a Singer"). The confusion may have arisen from what must be the many requests you've gotten to react to "SOS" performed during the "Singer 2017." However, the performance of "SOS" at the Slavic Bazaar in 2018 is possibly - certainly is for me - the best performance of any song that Dimash has given. He was in such top form on that night that he could've sung anything in any manner of his desire, and it would've come out indomitably brilliantly. So, if you're gonna react to "SOS" - and you definitely must catch it, whether or not you do a reaction video for it - the version to catch is the one performed at the Slavic Bazaar. Another essential Dimash performance to catch is "Late Autumn" (alternatively "Autumn Strong") during the "Singer 2017." Yet another "essential" one is "Diva Dance" at the Bastau concert. So many... So little time...

Dimash talked about injecting the folk and classics styles into modern music, (2 interviews, September and January 2018). Dimash took part in a professional singers competition show in China in 2007 and that's where his career took off. He had 13 performances on that show! All of them are so good. I suggest you check out his 1st performance SOS.

Another thought, when you said "intelligent": I think this is a big part of what draws me to his music: in addition to it being gorgeous, it's obviously SO intelligent. I can tell that if I knew more about music or vocal technique, or the cultural context or history of a song, I could peel back the layers of each song and find all kind of additional things to appreciate. It's almost like having a new hobby! :-)

We love your sincere reaction. I can tell you...you found a treasure. The best of the best. I suggest you start with Singer 2017 series, which was a professional singer competition in China. Dimash is a rare talent, so special and probably the only one in our generation. He is making some pretty 'extreme' music and breaking Music impossibility and all rules with his unbelievable vocal techniques and his 6 octaves. He is a God of EXTREME VOCALS.

He sang Daybreak on Singer 2017 but had lost his voice right before and was cautioned from hitting high notes (which he did anyway!)...but many say that the Bastau performance was how he intended it to be sung and I agree! It’s one of my favorites!!! Just some backstory, it’s a Chinese song and the original artist, Han Hong, wrote it about her adoptive son (from his point of view) whose parents died in a cable car accident but not before lifting him to safety. Talk about an emotional song!!! You can locate it in Dimash’s official YT channel & I recommend turning on the subtitles. Also, Dimash won the Slavic Bazaar but finished 2nd in the Chinese show Singer (what?!! I know!!!). 😁💕

Then, just a few weeks ago, when his cover of the French song 'SOS' popped up on my TH-cam recommendations, I clicked.
It was like a drop-kick to my gut. I had to find and listen to everything from Dimash.
Here's a fun little exercise: listen to Gregory LeMarchal's cover of 'SOS.' That's the gold standard for how 'SOS' is supposed to be sung. LeMarchal has harvested years of praise and adulation for that song.
Then listen to Dimash pull that paradigm up by the roots and set it on fire.
I'm no expert in singing, so I wanted to understand more about what he is doing, listen to expert people remarking on it. That's why I came here, and also visited the channels of other voice coaches to hear their reactions. I enjoyed your reaction to 'Sinful Passion' very much.
The unusual run towards the end of this song is a technique associated with areas of the world with a strong Muslim influence (including Kazakhstan). It's said to be quite difficult to master, and if it has ever been used before in a French song, I don't know about it. One of the things I love about Dimash is his use of extremely varied vocal techniques to tell a song's story.
He also establishes dramatic tension in many of his songs and lets it build until you just know you're about to hear the musical equivalent of fireworks, explosions and shattering glass. Then he delivers. It's wonderful, really.

I have been able to se him live in London nov 2018 and recently in Moscow 2019. He is born to be on the stage performing. Please go and see hin in USA when he will perform. He also has that forward, buzzy tone. That masked voice that he uses when he starts belting up high. Plus he also has that very deep chesty opera, baritone-ish voice or whatever range that he uses With all the vibrato. It's that dark and heavy voice, you know what I mean. The dude uses all his vocal colours in every song. And there is the fact that he did this very long run after that a crazy high note toward the end. I think they say it was about 25 seconds in total without stopping to breathe. Incredible.

I agree “yummy” is a good word. He actually came in 2nd in The Singer. He did win several performances on the Singer. He is scheduled to be st Maestro Krutoy’s concert in October in NYC. Should be amazing there is quite a line up of singers to be there. They are talking of a solo concert at Madison square garden around the same time. This is the festival "New Wave" in Sochi (Russia). There was a competition of young performers and concerts of Russian artists. Dimash acted as a guest at the jubilee concert of the Kazakh group "A-studio".
Baigali Serkebaev - the author of the song - plays the piano here.
It was a phenomenal performance! Superb low notes at the beginning, unreal high notes at the end. And again the oriental tones in the song!

This was my first Dimash video in Sept 2018. It has been a never ending Dimash roller coaster ever since! Now I am living for a chance to see him in concert.
The Slavic Bazaar takes place in Belarus.
Dimash came in 2nd in the Chinese show "Singer 2017" (formerly "I Am a Singer").
The confusion may have arisen from what must be the many requests you've gotten to react to "SOS" performed during the "Singer 2017." However, the performance of "SOS" at the Slavic Bazaar in 2018 is possibly - certainly is for me - the best performance of any song that Dimash has given. He was in such top form on that night that he could've sung anything in any manner of his desire, and it would've come out indomitably brilliantly.
So, if you're gonna react to "SOS" - and you definitely must catch it, whether or not you do a reaction video for it - the version to catch is the one performed at the Slavic Bazaar.
Another essential Dimash performance to catch is "Late Autumn" (alternatively "Autumn Strong") during the "Singer 2017." Yet another "essential" one is "Diva Dance" at the Bastau concert. So many... So little time...
Thank you. Dimash refers to his style of singing a «neo-classicism». which combines several genres of music into his songs. Dimash talked about injecting the folk and classics styles into modern music, (2 interviews, September and January 2018). Dimash took part in a professional singers competition show in China in 2007 and that's where his career took off. He had 13 performances on that show! All of them are so good. I suggest you check out his 1st performance SOS.

Another thought, when you said "intelligent": I think this is a big part of what draws me to his music: in addition to it being gorgeous, it's obviously SO intelligent. I can tell that if I knew more about music or vocal technique, or the cultural context or history of a song, I could peel back the layers of each song and find all kind of additional things to appreciate. It's almost like having a new hobby! :-)

We love your sincere reaction. I can tell you...you found a treasure. The best of the best. I suggest you start with Singer 2017 series, which was a professional singer competition in China. Dimash is a rare talent, so special and probably the only one in our generation. He is making some pretty 'extreme' music and breaking Music impossibility and all rules with his unbelievable vocal techniques and his 6 octaves. He is a God of EXTREME VOCALS.

He sang Daybreak on Singer 2017 but had lost his voice right before and was cautioned from hitting high notes (which he did anyway!)...but many say that the Bastau performance was how he intended it to be sung and I agree! It’s one of my favorites!!! Just some backstory, it’s a Chinese song and the original artist, Han Hong, wrote it about her adoptive son (from his point of view) whose parents died in a cable car accident but not before lifting him to safety. Talk about an emotional song!!! You can locate it in Dimash’s official YT channel & I recommend turning on the subtitles. Also, Dimash won the Slavic Bazaar but finished 2nd in the Chinese show Singer (what?!! I know!!!). 😁💕
