Awesome video, Graham! Your tips on keeping Gonioporas healthy were super helpful, especially with the insights on aquaculture and water flow. It’s clear you’ve put in a lot of time and experience into understanding these corals. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the reefing community-really appreciate it! 🙌 #ReefKeeping #GonioporaCare

Always watch these videos. 4 of my Goni are doing ok. But one just starting closing up. Maybe I’ll dose manganese. My last icp showed it was ok but the one before said I was low
I purchased AF Mn and have a roughly 350g system. I dose 5/6ml every 3 to 7 days (broad but honest) and still have not the best of luck with goni while all other lps thrive. Are all Mn suppliments similar potency? If you're system is Mn deprived, is there an amount that is logical to dose and a frequency? All information I've seen out there seems broad and skips this critical factor / info.... any insight would be appreciated. Thx and enjoy your channel.
The different supplements do seem to be different concentration. Reef Factory manganese is twice as concentrated as ATI. I would recommend sending out an ICP test to see if you have any manganese, it could be your other corals consuming it as well.
@@queencitycorals what is a safe measurement to dose to the best of your knowledge for 100 gallon? only 3 gonies in the tank but do have a mixed reef full of corals including some Acropora.
@@aaronyounger452it’s not that simple. All for reef adds some traces but if a particular species requires more of an element then you may still need to dose it. All for reef is not a complete solution and is not designed to be.
@@aaronyounger452 I’m aware it has traces. It’s not a complete solution to replace all trace elements. It replenishes some traces in a theoretical ratio used up by coral during calcification. It does not however replenish all traces used by the system unless perhaps that system is very lightly stocked. There are podcasts with Claude from Tropic Marin explaining this product and its limitations. It adds KH, Calcium and Magnesium but the traces are minimal.
Correct me if im wrong but. . Dont gonis close up when trying to feed. In the process expelling some of their water content. Doesn't this push food out and away from the goni?
I've had mine for about a month in the tank and they hate me. Its aquacultured but I have yet to get them to extend fully. The polyops come out ever so slightly but they do not extend outwards. Just stays on the base.
The amount of just flabbergasting stunning goni species you have is phenomenal
yep i feel the same way, i got their lime light one and its doing great. The extend up to about 4 to 5 inches sometimes

I will like to try them again, no luck with goni. I will have them again now that I been dosing the manganese and keeping estable.

Ok, thank you for the response.
How much to dose in 100 gallon mixed reef with a few goniapora? I've been dosing only 5ml a week, maybe not enough
Unfortunately you really need to send out an ICP test to see if you need to increase your dosage.

What kind of maganese do you use? Where do I buy it?
We use Reef Factory, it can be purchased from BRS and is the cheapest per ml of manganese.
Simple solution dose tropic marin all for reef. It has all the trace elements you need while maintaining your calcium Alk and magnesium levels. Easy

@@insanity4224 it has manganese and many other trace elements in it so in it so yeah it can be that simple.

It will if you feed them forcefully, I typically just let the powdered foods fall on top of them and allowing them to eat the food

I would definitely recommend trying to dose some manganese.
I can’t keepe a torch alive in my tank but have success keeping goni
where do I get the meganese ? thanks
Triton, ATI, AF sell those. Important to do icp before dosing. Good luck
We use reef factory, BRS sells it and it seems like the best bang for your buck!
Just totally avoid these corals
That’s the easy way😂
