- Stage 4 of the Gold Coast Light Rail is a 13km extension south of Light Rail Stage 3, linking Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta via the Gold Coast Airport.
A fauna bridge reconnecting an ecological corridor between Burleigh Heads National Park and Burleigh Ridge Park will be provided, protecting local fauna and wildlife.
Stage 4 will improve access and preserve Burleigh Heads National Park.
The light rail will provide new dedicated bridges for bikes and pedestrians across Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks encouraging active travel between light rail, bus and car.
The future southern extension of the light rail will follow the existing Gold Coast Highway corridor alignment.
Stage 4 will provide nine stations between Burleigh Heads and Tugun, and further stations will be investigated between Tugun and Coolangatta as part of the current Multi-modal Corridor Study.
There will be improved connections to the M1 and service roads including a new connection between the M1 and 19th Avenue, Palm Beach.
Light rail presents the opportunity for Palm Beach Avenue and the Gold Coast Highway to be transformed into a pedestrian friendly street precinct.
Active transport opportunities at Currumbin Creek is part of a separate planning project.
Changes to Tugun village access for safety and traffic flow improvements.
A Gold Coast Highway Tugun to Coolangatta Multi-modal corridor study is currently underway.
