I actually get a colour in my brain though, like it just smells " brown" not really how smooth it is, it just gives me an actual colour.. can't really explain it!!
Interesting video Peter. The Memo ones I'll check out soon. I don't have much experience with the leather notes in perfumes but since many years I like to wear Daim blond by Serge Lutens in autumn combined with my black leather jacket with pleasure.
I love leather. My first niche bottle is Godolphin. Just tested French Leather two nights ago and the shirt I wore that time still smells a bit of it now. You're right, opening is nothing to shout about but love the mid and dry down. It's unexpected since I don't like Rose. Waiting for a good deal to make me pull the trigger. The Bottega Extreme is a nice one too.
Just tested African Leather and French Leather is so much better on my skin. And I don't think AL will last even half as long as FL both on skin and clothes.
I know I'm very late to this but firstly Rasasi La Yuqawam is a great "cheapish" choice. On the pricier side I really like Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours which is a really suedey suede
Hi Peter! very appreciated you included some designers in the list, BUT, I'd strongly recommend you try out some vintage designers, specially with the leather note there is a huge difference compared with what's in the market today (included niche). I've done a video featuring this note in a timeline, with a few great 80's and 90's releases. Cheers!
Awesome list Pete! I have been trying to get into leather. Just a little strong for me. But, hopefully ill find a few I enjoy. Ombre Leather was actually quiet lovely when I smelt it the other day. One I will definitely consider picking up. Those Memos were quiet nice as well. African Leather was my favorite. Ioved the cardamon in it.
FragranceView I have been binge watching your videos for the past couple of days. My dog just died and I been having some tuff times. So, these videos have been really cheering me up. Your enthusiasm has really brought some joy to me!
Hey Peter, great video as always! I too quite liked the Bottega Veneta and had to scrub Italian Leather haha. But I am generally unimpressed with the whole Memo line. My favourite leathers that I think you may also enjoy include: 1. Papillon - Anubis for the smoothest and most plush suede note I have ever come across with a smoky incense. 2. Charenton Maceration - Christopher Street which is this really cool tension between modern and vintage perfumery. Have a good one and looking forward to the next video!
Love leather fragrances. But it can become slightly too heavy and sickly after a while. I’m not into paying loads for a good fragrance so I’ve opted for the Rasasi version of TF Tuscan leather. The raspberry sweetens it up nicely.
Great video Pete. I have vern enjoying Cuir Andalou by Rania J, The Hedonist by Cult of Scent and the suede-y Tom of Finland by ELDO. The Bottega Veneta is a love.
I bought a decant of ombre leather and it reminded me of John Varvatos dark rebel, a killer leather fragrance that can be had for cheap. Dark Rebel Rider is a daring take on leather as well.
I personally LOVE the smell of Leather but i cannot like it as a fragrance. I struggle with the concept of wearing a scent that smells like a bag. BUT... I do love the smell of horse saddles. (I have horses) especially after a sweaty ride. The smell of the saddle with the mixture of sweat of your horse is divine to me. Its intoxicating! On that note, if you can get a bottle of Manuka essential oil, it has that very smell I described. (To me) Very sweaty horse saddle smell. But I also smell a slight cheesy undertone which is not unpleasant but not really nice either. That with Nargamotha oil, castoreum and labdanum would make a nice leather accord. Also Mango leaf absolute is a sweet mango fruity and lotus opening with new leather and its also present in the drydown. There are a few naturals that smell like leather. Check them out if you can. You might find them interesting.
Great review Peter..for me nothing beats TL, yet..I've been hesitant in pulling the trigger for Memo's African leather. I think I may gift myself..Cheers!
Nice to see Irish Leather get a nod; it doesn't seem to get as much love as the others from Memo. A feminine-leaning designer leather I like very much is Alaia. Enjoyed your picks.
Great list. It's good to see some love for the Bottega Venetta, a great designer that's underrated, also it gives me LDDM vibes, tht leather, patchouli and vetiver combo... Cheers Peter
I left out Tauer's 03 Leather, I owned it for a while and a friend kept telling me I smelled of Antiseptic Cream... a particular brand called Germolene, and as soon as they said i was like damn, you're right. Had to sell it...
I was so excited to try French Leather but unfortunately it didn’t work for me at all. To me it smells a bit too synthetic, my nose and brain aren’t able to translate this into a leather scent. It’s a little sweaty as well and feels overall rather cold and aloof. I might give it another go though, it‘s been a year or two since I tried it... Btw. I‘m just wearing Jabir on my right and l‘Oudh on my left arm. Surprisingly I love the Tauer, don‘t like the Kemi. I don’t get burnt plastic from l‘Oudh, to me it actually has a rough and dry leather vibe, a little inky and medicinal but somehow very cosy as well (due to the Sandalwood I guess), whereas Jabir is more like a classic rose patch scent with with a touch of wet camel - too much patch and camel for me 🤷♀️ Anyway, thank you for the inspiration, I wouldn’t have tried any of the two, if you hadn’t mentioned them :)
how strange, very different experiences to me!! thanks for sharing!! I didn't get any caramel note in Jabir, or too much of the Patchouli! So funny how different people experience things so differently! I showed the Tauer to a few friends and family and they got the burned plastic industrial vibe too, but I guess maybe not everyone gets that! It dries down much better, it's only in the opening top notes in the first couple of minutes!
I personally love rather fragrances and I get what you mean by brown and black leather smelling differently. In my opinion brown leather is rich and warm while black leather is cool and smooth. I love TF ombré leather ( I just got a bottle) and Memo Irish leather is my absolute favorite Leather fragrance. I'm surprised Italian leather was a scrubber for you, I like it and I like Russian leather too
Nice Bro. Not much experience with leather fragrances. Been wanting to check out Ambré Noir, MEMO Paris African and Irish. Only leather fragrance I’ve smelled was CH Men, thought it was okay. Don’t love it like most do. Enjoyed the vid ✌🏻
My top are acqua di parma leather and ysl noble leather , by killian royal leather. Being irish i'll be trying that Irish leather soon 👌 Glad i'm not the only one who has something with tomato leaf , i've yet to find a fragrance with that in it that i like. It just makes me wince when i smell it for some reason.
One of my favorite leather scents is from the indie House of Matriarch. I love Destrier! Such a great scent. Sometimes I get a brown, well worn leather scent and other times I get a black, polished leather scent. Maybe because of changes in my body heat or something. IDK. Anyway, I agree with you that there is a difference in the color of leather and the scent. Great review, Peter!
Please make a review of women's leather perfumes for the many ladies that follow you. Id love to wear a leather scent and would like to know your recommendations❤
Lol sorry . As soon as I was done typing this comment I heard u starting to talk about the parfum version lol whatever anyways ya definitely give it a try
FragranceView I think it is less Animalic & ashy & more fruity/wearable To my nose but overall it has a resemblance to Tuscan leather but only as much as the majority of leather fragrances do
The timing of this video is immense. I'm on a leather mission atm. Leather blend is a lot of fragrance for the money, great stuff. My favourite is mona di orio's cuir, fancy doing an expensive niche video?
I feel exactly the same way about Italian Leather. The tomato leaf just comes off as untasteful, and it's quite present. Irish Leather is my favorite in that line. I wasn't sure about French Leather, but I'll give it another try. Bottega sounds interesting, thanks for the recommend. I quite enjoy Acqua Di Parma Leather. It's very potent though, so 1 spray lasts all day, 2 sprays are suffocating. However, it has this joie de vivre elegance you get from opening a brand new luxe leather bag.
Because I'm deeply in love with leather note. I can definitely tell you this is the best review I've ever seen about it 👏👏. Second of all you are absolutely right there is a big different between the smell of black leather and brown leather. Those who loves leather they can tell the difference. Third of all bro could you do more videos regarding leather scent. There is a huge range of leather perfumes out there. Leather mixed with different other notes. Hahahahah so very true. Sometimes you have to kinda sell your soul to the devil to get your content out and that's just how it is. There's gotta be something you can do to sell your channel more, some kind of compromise you can make. There are a lot of youtubers out there who are entertaining and have a lot of views yet their content has little value. Keep that in mind, that if you have to sell yourself and compromise on your values a bit, that your content is worth it. You are one of the most upstanding, consistent youtubers I've come across. How can you get more viewers? Maybe if you shared more of your daily life? More collabs? More giveaways? Network more?
I am honestly not bothered about views or subscriber numbers... it's only feeding the ego. Non of that is important, as long as the people that do watch get some value from it, then it's all good
Thanks for this list of fine leather .I do have my eyes on Ombre Leather and I will check out Venetta.Have you heard of the house Ajmal..I'm thinking of trying out Santal Wood or also Santal Rose ...Thanks
pretty good selection. but one is missing for sure. B683 by Marc-Antoine Barrois made by Quentin Bisch. For me the best leather scent on the market. cheers
I’m not a big fan of leather fragrances partly because there’s not much out there for women. It is probably because leather is mostly considered masculine note. I sort of like Bottega veneta for women and Kelly cleche by Hermes. But they are not one of my favorites. Do you have any suggestions for women who might wanna try leather this fall? I don’t recall many TH-camrs talking about feminine leather scents either.
Really enjoed this Pete. When you mentioned black leather, I was like...is he going to say it?...should I say it? I think you know what I mean. lol Whip it good. Btw, if you ever get a chance, I would love to get your take on some vintage designer gentleman's scents - De La Renta, Aramis, Van Cleef and Arpels, Bogart, Cerruti, Boss, Ferre, whatever you can get your hands on. Thanks mate!
Did you try YSL Noble Leather ? I bought a full tester on Ebay recently only for 60 € ! It's very strong and beautiful :) I have heard that ROGUE by Rihanna it's a nice affordable scent, similar to Bottega Veneta ( the women's one ). xx
You NEED to try Sadel by Svensk Parfym. It’s hands down the best leather fragrance in my opinion, and my favorite fragrance of all time as well. It’s amazing!
@@FragranceView Definitely, picture F***ing Fabulous and Tuscan Leather having a child, its TL's opening with FF's drydown. It just depends on the wearer's preference
Pretty different, the Matriarch is mixed with loads of woods / pine / cedar / oud.. quite green, a lot of distraction from just the leather, though both come across as black leather. Black No.1 is a bit more like a rough older black leather biker jacket Irish Leather is like pure straight up brand new polished black leather car seat in a luxury car
try La Yuqawam by Rasasi...smells like Tuscan Leather but way cheaper and lasts as long as Tuscan. There are many reviews here of that one.......all agree that it could be considered an actual clone of Tuscan..and a bit less harsh and easier to wear.......Thanks, Bob
Leather is a interesting scent to talk about with others. It's very much " To each their own". Everyone has their own favorite smell of leather..There's just so many natural leather smells to love. I personally love the smell of leather that's used in horse saddles. To me it reminds me of good time out ridding. lol, it'd be easy to guess my favorite..
@@FragranceView Nice, Thanks Peter! Would you consider Destrier a cleaner or more dirty scent? I'm pretty open to either.. I'm going to order a sample either way. Just curious to get your take on it.
To me it smells like a polished but old in warn saddle, but not dirty... well looked after and smooth. It's mixed with Hay and actually uses Horse Hair Tincture as a note...
FragranceView, oh yeah, I remember you did talk about this in a video. I remember thinking to myself, “Horsehair tinctures?!” Lol, that opened up my whole notion of tinctures. I’ll have to go back and watch that again. Thanks again!
What is your outro music ? Always puts me in a trans This video was just what I needed thanks for the diagnosis on ombre leather I don't think I would want to smell like straight up leather needs something else in it ... Might go with Ferrari since the other two are hard to find Amber blend by Davidoff is really good too but hard to find also
You need to try bvlgari au the noir -- I have no idea what the official notes are but to my nose it's straight forward no BS genuine leather, smells niche/classy, like a black leather handbag, no sweetness up top to kill it, similar vein to ombre leather but I like it more, minus the hilarious mark-up, its priced fairly.
I have smelled a lot from that range, in the slim coloured bottles.. maybe I missed that one though, I don't remember a leather one! I'll have to revisit them
Memo is not affordable tbh they r costly too! I tried African leather i didn't like i like my leathers leathery n masculine n AL smelled to me more of a fresh spicy sweet one... i am excited to try Moroccan leather as well, as u mentioned...
I said more Affordable than the high end Niche... the price is for a 75ml not a 50ml it's still a chunk cheaper than other Niche brands with leather scents. But I rattled off quite a few designers!
Did you ever smell Monsieur Rochas? It's discontinued already but it was a nice fragrance not sweet at all, it was a very nice mixture of leather and tobacco. I also want to ask why do you put Tom Ford as niche fragrances if Tom Ford is a designer?
Just a mistake, I think of the Private Blend more as a Niche line, and his other line as Designer, and when I mentioned Ombre Leather I wasn't thinking about that.. I am used to talking about Tuscan Leather. But the price is relatively on the higher end up designer anyway - doesn't matter so much. I don't think too many people are that bothered about the distinction.
I'm not bothered about the distinction either, it was just that I didn't understood why the difference, because in my mind niche fragrances were from companies that specialise in fragrance making and evidently Tom Ford as other designers do, only put their name in the fragrance without creating it. I love your videos and I've learnt a lot from them! Thank you for your answer!
Davidoff leather was a like for me but not love.. something about the animalic/oily feel wasn't as enjoyable as I would've liked. But definitely one of the better done leather scents in the designer game. Also, check out Armani Eau de Cedre if you have a chance. I was surprised to get a good amount of leather accord despite the name..
Memo, nope. Ferrari , from the few I've sampled from this house, nope I would like to sample Davidoff sometime. Sounds really good. Like Bottega . I've got the original too. Didn't care for my experiences Issey Miyake . Pass ! I would like to sample other designer leathers though. Honestly, I am going to sample Polo Leather . I think there's one. I very much like Polo Vintage Green . Some people don't like it. Got a sample of Ombre Leather . It's not bad .I've sampled Ombre 16 .Some forward floral aspects to to it. Course I love Tuscan Leather. I get some depth from Ombre Leather . Love the spice aspect that comes from it. I do get spice in 16, but the floral part comes forward more. There's a violet to Heeley's . Ends up a little bizarre . I'll sample Memo again Peter . I used to like Rhino , but it reminds me of the antiseptic that barbers put their comes in . Things change. That Ferrari though, no . With Memo, I don't need things to be overly different . I need them to be discernible . There's one that I do like, and it's easily recognizable . It's Atelier Des Ors Cuir Sacre . I think that's how you spell it. Yup, I have it out now. Been sampling leathers lately . I'm not being snooty , but there's just something that I enjoy about it. It's a tiny bit of this , some more of that, but well balanced. Kinda like the house. Just wish it wasn't so damn expensive. You need to like vetiver . Wish it lasted longer. Oh well. Always enjoy you take on fragrances, even though at times we differ.
never cared for Leather. Russian Tea is the only one i like....but it does have a tea note in the beginning that slowly transitions to leather- so My nose gets tricked lol
Peter love your channel I'm one of the first subscribers and I watching everyone of your videos But in this one you are not quite right Can you tell the difference betwen the smell of brown and black paint Sorry for my English
no, paint smells like pain which ever colour it is... but black leather smells black and brown leather smells brown, and I've even smelled a blonde / white leather too...
excellent list my brother....surprised indeed to see some designers which are my favorites ...esp leather blend :)
It's a good one!
Totally right. Black leather are mostly strong I reckon and the brown are mostly a little bit smooth. Thank you for the tips.
Thanks!
If it was a bit cheaper I might buy that Memo, but it's pretty pricy!
Just tested African Leather and French Leather is so much better on my skin. And I don't think AL will last even half as long as FL both on skin and clothes.
I did full reviews of both of them a while ago
I like your detailed approach review. I hope you do more reviews. Maybe best Oud fragrance under $200 ..
I know I'm very late to this but firstly Rasasi La Yuqawam is a great "cheapish" choice. On the pricier side I really like Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours which is a really suedey suede

Sounds good

I have come to appreciate Tuscan Leather more. But, Ombre Leather is more my speed because it is not as harsh as TL.

Do you have any suggestions for women who might wanna try leather this fall? I don’t recall many TH-camrs talking about feminine leather scents either.
Sure - Atelier Cologne - Oud Saphire - it's a sweet fruity jammy suede, very nice! work well for a woman in my opinion
try Rasasi La Yuqawam
Thanks guys. I ‘ll try : )
Imo Midnight in Paris by Van Cleef & Arpels, a soft and sweet leather.
Smelled a few Aramis, not for me... too old school. All of Hugo Boss is terrible
Did you try YSL Noble Leather ? I bought a full tester on Ebay recently only for 60 € ! It's very strong and beautiful :) I have heard that ROGUE by Rihanna it's a nice affordable scent, similar to Bottega Veneta ( the women's one ). xx
Never warn it on skin, but I've smelled it in stores on paper and liked it - not tried Rihanna's scent
You NEED to try Sadel by Svensk Parfym. It’s hands down the best leather fragrance in my opinion, and my favorite fragrance of all time as well. It’s amazing!
I've not smelled anything from that brand
Great list Pete! Thank you!
Thanks :)
I bought Ombre Leather today. Beautiful opening before it dries down to an absolute sugary almost gourmandish fragrance. That was unexpected
Hopefully it still smells good though ?
@@FragranceView Definitely, picture F***ing Fabulous and Tuscan Leather having a child, its TL's opening with FF's drydown. It just depends on the wearer's preference
I love Leather Blend, garners complements.
Glad you like it
How would you compare Irish leather smelling black, to the black leather matriarch?
Just curious. 👍🏻
Pretty different, the Matriarch is mixed with loads of woods / pine / cedar / oud.. quite green, a lot of distraction from just the leather, though both come across as black leather. Black No.1 is a bit more like a rough older black leather biker jacket
Irish Leather is like pure straight up brand new polished black leather car seat in a luxury car
FragranceView awesome.
try La Yuqawam by Rasasi...smells like Tuscan Leather but way cheaper and lasts as long as Tuscan. There are many reviews here of that one.......all agree that it could be considered an actual clone of Tuscan..and a bit less harsh and easier to wear.......Thanks, Bob
I own a full bottle of it :) I've reviewed it years ago
did you find it leathery?..lol......
As I said in the video, I purposely left out any fragrances copying Tuscan Leather..
but yeah it's great.
Matriarch - Destrier is the closest I've smelled to horse saddle
Hurrah for Tuscan Leather! I wouldn't wear it personally but love it on men. The photo/painting on the background's making me miss the Mid East a lot.
Thanks the framed photograph is me sat on a camel in Egypt in front of the Pyramids at Giza in Cairo :)
What is your outro music ?
Always puts me in a trans
This video was just what I needed thanks for the diagnosis on ombre leather I don't think I would want to smell like straight up leather needs something else in it ...
Might go with Ferrari since the other two are hard to find Amber blend by Davidoff is really good too but hard to find also
It's there isn't it ? Ferrari is also the cheapest in the whole list, very affordable
I'll have to revisit them
I love Ferrari leather essence 😙 God it gets me lots of complements at work and among my friends 💪💪💪
Glad it works well for you!
Godolphin/Tuscan leather/La Yuqawam forever! If you want a bit lighter, buy Aoud leather.
Tuscan Leather should be first in that list though ;)
Thank you for your answer!
my fav so far is adp leather
yeah that one kills me, not a fan of the citrus combination with the leather.. doesn't work for me
My favourite Note 🤗 leather 😍
Any thoughts on Chanel Cuir de Russie?
Not my cup of tea
Davidoff leather was a like for me but not love.. something about the animalic/oily feel wasn't as enjoyable as I would've liked. But definitely one of the better done leather scents in the designer game. Also, check out Armani Eau de Cedre if you have a chance. I was surprised to get a good amount of leather accord despite the name..
I'll check that out, cheers!
Italian leather is the best of the memo line imo.the tomato leave takes a back seat within one minute i would say.subjective stuff..
I can smell that note for a couple of hours, and it's cloying for hours too, I reviewed it in full
Memo, nope.
Ferrari , from the few I've sampled from this house, nope
I would like to sample Davidoff sometime.
You sound more picky than I am ? did you fall through a dimensional hole to a new universe?
I changed my mind already with Cuir Sacre. Mehhhh .
XD . What the hell Peter.
I do want to try the Davidoff
Any of those leathers Porsche worthy, Peter?
Not sure what that means buddy, you can wear whatever you want if you're driving a Porsche
@@FragranceView what would be your top 2 fragrances out of those to compliment the panamera leather ?
That's a bit of a weird looking Porsche, I am more a 911 fan... but probably Memo Irish Leather..
and Davidoff Leather Blend
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Supreme leather by Polo Ralph Lauren!
It is nice! I have the oud and wanna try the cashmere but the performance on em is lamentable and the price is outrageous!
I've not smelled that one
memo African leather is fucking amazing
Glad you like it
never cared for Leather. Russian Tea is the only one i like....but it does have a tea note in the beginning that slowly transitions to leather- so My nose gets tricked lol
not for everyone
Imitation man is high on my list at the moment.
Never smelled it
Surprised you hate Italian leather!!
yeah the tomato leaf and resin combo kills me..
Knize 10!
I know you don't like Roja but best leather is Roja Great Britain.Period
Personal opinion is very personal
that's why is called personal..:)..no offenses..i do like your taste a lot and respect your opinion..
What are you just done??????
Joking :-)
Don't understand the joke? lol
Peter love your channel
I'm one of the first subscribers and I watching everyone of your videos
But in this one you are not quite right
Can you tell the difference betwen the smell of brown and black paint
Sorry for my English
no, paint smells like pain which ever colour it is... but black leather smells black and brown leather smells brown, and I've even smelled a blonde / white leather too...
@@FragranceView it's not the leather.Thy are another notes which make you feel of different colours leather
