Hello Fellow Amphaulics, Friends, And Supporters Of The World Famous BBI AMPS: Thank you for this video Luke. This vintage amp is a darling. Bipolar transistors WOW, that reminds me of a bypolar blonde I use to know. Love the electrolytic filter caps. If I'm not mistaken this amp is SWR & DRIVE sensitive 😅. Well Done, God Bless, stay safe, & my best to the family. TMP, Unit 22 from N.J. 😊
ive got 2 big ol epd irons i bought new..got em after seeing the 2 you put in the guys power supply a long time ago..them 50v boxes were the shit back in them days.
I was hoping for SA results. Not being critical, just curiosity. I liked the higher V. MRF's because I didn't need so much iron. If people want a 50V regulated supply at 40-50 amps, you need to make it. Your all-in-one a good approach. Astron's VLS series cost over $500 and most only go to 30v. I found 28v a good compromise. Kenwood TS-930s had 28v MRF422's as finals. I want to take another look at that diagram some day.
Bbi I have a question Hope you will answer it I have a messenger v 4 2x8 how much is the amplifier worth it only works on AM some reason it won't work on ssb it does about 700 on am thanks have a good day. ✌️🇺🇸✌️
@@artnascar9748 so beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Do you have your idea of what it's worth and then somebody on the other end that's going to purchase it also has an idea of what it's worth. It depends on the condition the amplifiers in that kind of sounds like it's not completely brand new virginal stock. We also have to determine what transistors and what are the numbers in them so like the m4v messenger I made four or five different versions of that with different transistors and the transistors determine a great deal on what it's worth
Actually, a second dumb and quasi-related question. Have you ever heard anything about/done anything with the HG150-28 ICA has for sale? I'm finding precisely nothing about this transistor at all.
@@user-ef3nu1eh7z oh that might be the case but I doubt it. The guys that usually end up buying this thing have got a fairly good working knowledge of radio. It's usually an overdrive issue

Great video! Cool historical perspective and I love the full technical detail.
Wow dude I'm always wowed. I should have asked if you would have built my 2x8. I did call you in 2016 but you were really busy.

Neat amp, definitely a product of the time it was built in.

a 48VDC LiFePO4 battery would be a good option. As far as Astron's, no need to use a weird 28V Astron, why not just get two and run them in series.
how about a hybrid tube modulator 100 watt driving 8 solid state finals, they would sell
can you tune one of these 50v boxes to say 6-7mhz?
@@minibikemadman I don't know why you can't the transistor works from 0 to 30 MHz
Can you build like with for 2 meter 144.100 SSB with preamp? driven by Icon 9100 with 120 Watt PEP

@BoxBuilderIdaho thanks for responding back it has two 2879s toshiba's Believe it has 8.455. and it's in really great shape and clean inside.
M4V's are worth some doe if it's in good condition. You probably would get at least $500 for it, even with SSB not working as you say.
