Renne, all you have to do is is go on a CGC site and punch in the code number of your book (on top) and it will give you a complete description and explanation to why your book received a certain grade. Manny things could affect the grade regardless how good the cover may appear. I learned that the hard way!
Wow! Your a lucky guy picking up all these CGC classic comics and I'm sure your daughter will be a tv presenter soon she's got a great personality and great presence and very funny!
To answer your question about the labels. A green label book usually has 1 major flaw i.e. centerfold missing, popped staple ect. And they grade the book as if it didnt have that flaw. So in the case of that batman book with the centerfold missing it would be a .5 blue label. Also a 4.0 green label doesn't sell for as much as a 4.0 blue label. As to why one got a blue label and one got a green label it was probably just the graders preference. When you send books in with a popped staple or missing pages you can tell them you will take the lower grade blue label over the green label if you want. To help you with page counts golden age books are usually 12 pages to the centerfold (not counting cover), and silver age books are 8 pages to the centerfold (not counting cover). Hope this helps.
Hey Rene, the difference probably is because the 4.0 has an early Joker cover. Collectors will focus on key issues and key characters as well. The story with the gorilla is not a valued, unless in the story the villain is Gorilla Grod. So, Joker, Penguin, Cat Woman, Mr. Freeze, etc. the early villains are more valued.
Hey Renee.. I seen your videos on here last year but never watched any because it said Storage Wars. I got into Storage Auction Pirate months ago and just last night you were on a live Stream with Locker Nuts, Wades ventures, Jebus, what the Hales, #hustlegrindrewind, and a couple others. Now that I seen the true you at random and come to know you are not scripted like I thought that whole show was. I'm liking n subscribing. Thanks for your videos man, and thank you for being a real person doing this. Fuckin hell yeah on this hoarder house in hope you make a video of every three feet worth of stuff yiu find. I'm so glad I have someone new to start watching. It's like when I was a kid, watching Three's Company and out of nowhere discovering The Fall Guy.
In answer to your question about the difference between the .5 and 4.0 books graded by CGC. I would say the big difference in the grade would be the outside condition of the book, there both considered incomplete because of the missing pages. With your shipping manifest from CGC there should be a paper that gives all the notes of each graded book. It gives you an idea of all the defects that CGC detracts from each book. I do find it interesting myself that there is such a margine between each grade. But keep in mind that sometimes books can come back from CGC that are not properly graded. I know of some people who have sent a book in to CGC, cracked the case and sent the same book and get a completely different grade. It happens unfortunately, hope that helps...
The bigger reason for the difference is the green label doesn't count the missing page against the grade whereas the blue does. As per the reason why they did the labels differently, no clue. You would need to check the notes for that.
Regardless of the low grades, those are books you don't see but once in a lifetime! and if those are the prices that you are sticking by they will fly off the shelves so to speak! Congratulations on a Big Big find! I haven't watched the show in a while, is it still on the air!
Hey Rene! To answer your question- they will give a higher grade with the green label, and a lower grade for a blue label with the same condition. A GREEN Label will still look at the whole rest of the book and grade it based on the condition of the whole book.. for a blue label- page missing, the entire rest of the book can look great, but the grade will be crap. Hope that help! -Slade
Normally they will give you the option to do a Green or a Blue label. Keep in mind you're not CERTAIN to get a 4.0 if you wanted to re-grade that one as qualified. It might only get a 2.0. You should see if it's the same condition visually as the 4.0 one. The difference between blue and green is all about sale value. People pay higher for blue because that means the book isn't restored and it's "complete". Since yours isnt complete, it earns that .5 If it's something like a page missing that does not affect the story.. and if it's a BIG difference in grade- i'd probably lean to that green label.. the .5 makes it seem like it's a very beat up copy.
Hello from Northern Ontario,...still looking for a very nice antique walking cane,...I am sure I can find one on eBay,but looking for one from your collection, for balance and memorabilia
Red Raven 1 was the first in the series of the Human Torch. It did not have the Human Torch in it. Human Torch was the second issue on and kept the title.
The .5 for a missing page and the 4.0 for a missing page makes no sense to me whatsoever, Now Joker covers are worth more than the average Batman....but there is no way that should affect the grading! The grading company had to have made a mistake. I would contact them. Two other things I might point out....key books very frequently sell for higher than list value. One reason for this is they do not come up for sale that often....especially in good condition so frequently the most recent sale is out of date. I also see CGC graded books often going for much more than grade simply because of the guarantee of condition. Subsequently a graded key issue in good condition....well I would offer it at a higher price simply to see what happens.
The .5 the colors look more washed out which greatly effects the value. With the older books if they are left out sunlight will cause the colors to fade.
Gotta feel awful for this poor old man. He bought all these books over his entire lifetime just to have his family sell it off for pennies on the dollar. Everything he collected ended up in Rene's hands......probably 5 Million dollars or more when all is said and done. What a tragedy it would be if EVERYTHING I own ends up in a stranger's hands because my family didn't even bother to cross reference.....IN THE DIGITAL AGE!!!! With ONE book (AF#15), Rene paid more than half of the entire hoarder house. He still has over 80 thousand issues besides that one......PLUS all the other stull. Great move on Rene's part. The family must feel like fools.
omg the batman 25 beautiful. Keep that one brother. Not to be rude, but you need to get a few heavy hitters to rule in on some of your prices. If you sell the batman 25, you should be able to get considerably more than 2k and the captain america 29 I think should net you 5-6k with minimal effort.
It’s for the “assigned grade” that C. G. C. gave to the Book, it’s not defect-relavent. :€) That’s a nice Black-Cover on the Batman #75! The Human Torch Series has a single issue (Marvel Comics #1 perhaps?) before the numbering commenced for the Human Torch on-going Series, staggering the #ing by 1 # to account for same. :€)
Early Human Torch issues were dual numbered due to an numbering error by the publisher. Eventually they got it straight. Couple pieces of advice with comics. Get ye a copy of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. Bookmark www.comics.org to look up things when you do not know what is going on with a comic.
You should call CGC and have them explain to you (and to all of us) why they gave you a GREEN 4.0 and BLUE 0.5 for the same defect of being incomplete. It seems sometimes, depending on who is working, someone will decide green or blue. Perhaps it has to do with the value of each. Only CGC knows...They are many odd discrepancies. Regardless, that CAPTAIN AMERICA 0.5 looks great and is very rare, someone will pay way more that the supposed value of an 0.5, if you auction all those old Human torch, Sub Mariner and CAPTAIN AMERICA books on COMIC CONNECT or COMIC LINK watch them sell for multiples times what your daughter read out they were worth. Good luck....:)
blue label is more sought after than green label you can get the green label redone as a 0.5 blue label as well and yes value will be more for the 0.5 because real collectors stay away from anything other than a blue or yellow label book from cgc
With .5 graded Batman comic you should try to have them go with a green label which would have been a 3-4 apparent grade etc Makes it a little bit more sell-able.
The qualified grade means the comic looks like that apparent grade but has a major flaw such as a missing page inside. The universal grade is its actual grade, which with a missing page drops really low.
also cleaning a book is major a 6.5 white to off white pages book will demand way higher value than a cream to off white pages book and white pages is even higher some book i see you as being a good bit low on and some i see you shooting for the stars on a rocket henry ford the 1st commissioned and built but i love your channel and love yall on storage wars
It's amazing how two years in a kids life changes so much great to have all ur memories saved on TH-cam
Your daughter is great. Very quick on her feet, quite a comedian
Renne, all you have to do is is go on a CGC site and punch in the code number of your book (on top) and it will give you a complete description and explanation to why your book received a certain grade. The Font, Graphics, and Art Work of the 1930's - 1960's was SO cool!! I agree, those Red covered comics just have a "pop" to them!!
BINGO !!!
i love these old comics
that batman with robin riding along was most excellent. Should sell handsomely. Titania was fun to watch. Thanx Rene.
Awesome Family, You guys make me smile!

Fantastic comic collection
some great collectors items you got there, i bet they sold like hot cakes!

Those Batman black covers look great!! The black covers can get messed up due to folds etc.
Yeah I like em also
That one with the circle of flames is a georgous book. I never had comics before but if I seen that as a kid I'd have bought the for sure.

Hello from Northern Ontario,...still looking for a very nice antique walking cane,...I am sure I can find one on eBay,but looking for one from your collection, for balance and memorabilia
Hi Rene how much is it to get them rated?
Pearl Harbor was 1941, Beautiful comics with nice grades!
Thanks , I am losing all my memory
Scared for life renee singing Tatiana needs her own show
Great vid. Again, so jealous.
Human Torch actually started at #2 (i believe its because the number one was Marvel Comics #1). So number 4 is actually the 3rd book in the series.
Actually, it was Red Raven Comics 1 (Aug 1940) which became a one shot. Goodman continued the numbering with Human Torch Comics #2(1).
she sings great
Red Raven 1 was the first in the series of the Human Torch. It did not have the Human Torch in it. Human Torch was the second issue on and kept the title.
