Marcelito had a terrible childhood. His father was in jail and his mother abandoned him to others. He eventually ended up living alone on the streets from about age 7 to 17 (not sure of the exact ages). So, he may very well have lived in a box at times. His singing (self taught) rescued him from a life of poverty.
