I wouldn't say amazing writting. They hinted a lot that he was still alive by some miracle, never finding his body, no traces of him. Not wanting to visit him in the afterlife.
Honestly Wally was one of, if not the most, interesting characters YJ had to offer. And his death in season 2 was genius in my opinion, a proper way to send him off (though I did wish he was still magically alive)
Greg Weisman had many opportunities to please the original YJ fans. but unfortunately judging by how the revival was going. it's probably best to keep it the way it ended rather than ruining the image of the show.
Given how the show had the best opportunity to close the book of Wally with Artemis meeting him in the afterlife but revealed it was an illusion, something tells me they planned to eventually bring him back at some point.
@@bignerd5529 That was done in accordance to how they treat spirits/ghosts in the show. If they have unfinished business like Secret did, they stick around until that's resolved, then they pass on. Wally accepted his death, so he passed on and there's no way to communicate with him. And like the video says, it means more when it comes from Artemis's idea of Wally than a literal ghost of Wally.
Wally was killed, and kept dead solely for the New 52 continuity orders. In the original comics, Wally was the fastest speedster. I lived in some weird reality for a couple years thinking Wally was the slowest due to this stupid writing before realizing I wasn’t remembering the source material properly. There’s no genius to it, but filling the demands of the DC higher ups.
Say what you want about Young Justice. But the fact that YJ killed Wally West off and actually committed to keeping him dead while everyone got older and moved on is exremely gutsy for anything superhero-related. Especially in the animated series field.
It's especially shocking because they could've easily brought him back. They killed him in a way that easily set up him being sucked into the speed force and returning even faster. And then they just never did it.
To be fair, there were multiple crew statements that if the series had continued, they wanted to bring Wally back. However, it seems like they decided against it when it did get revived.
Honestly seeing how Wally was in this series compared to Justice league, Teen Titans and even the Arrow verse was interesting. Seeing his journey, his weird ideals about magic and love with Artemis was great to see. It's great knowing i grew up with both Wally and Barry along with knowing their differences.
Honestly, Wally's biggest flaw in this show is that he died. More specifically HOW he died. For some reason, the showrunners were committed to making and keeping Wally slow despite Wally objectively being the fastest member of the flash family. If anything, the moment in the arctic should have had Barry die, Wally take up the mantle and have his arc be overcoming the mental block of not letting him be outshine his mentor. It would have meshed perfectly well with how the rest of the show played out with Bart becoming Kid Flash, plus like half of the original team becomes a member of the Justice League, so why not Wally?
It's funny to think that the creators said that the "speed force does not exist" Since it's such an essential part of a speedster's powers, then that might just mean it hasn't been discovered yet. Wally may be the first person to experience the speed force and when he returns, he will be the fastest person alive.
The speed force is not an "essential part" of a speedster's powers. It only became a thing after Wally had became the Flash in the comics. Prior to that, it wasn't a thing that existed at all. You can very easily have speedsters without needing to have a speedforce, as it's a relatively "recent" addition in the grand scheme of things.
Weisman was corrected by higher ups in DC and hd to change their answer to "It hasn't been discovered yet". As a superhero writer for s long as they had been, they really should have known you can't kill a speedster by making them go fast and not show a body. That's always the discovery/entry of the speedforce. If Weisman really wanted Wally dead for good, we should have gotten a body/one of the tech people being able to find evidence of his residue on the snow.
@@batterupman It's become essential for years. It's established that every DC speedster is connected to the Speed Force. Though the type of connection is different. The way Wally dies was even the same in Justice League when he just vanishes into the speed force fighting Luthor/Brainiac. The way Wally kept showing up in one way or another it was clear he wasn't as dead as folks think.
I think its fair to assume wally was never meant to stay dead for the whole show. My guess is he'd come back as flash now being faster and stronger but more lost and confused to the time he's missed with his friends and family and over time find his new place. But because the shows canceled we'll never know.
Throughout the run of Young Justice that he's in, Wally is the most social of the team, to the point he actually nudges and pushes others into social situations they would usually avoid.
Wally portrayal in this show is a big reason why this is one of my favorite animated shows, and goes to show you change change and tweak major parts of a character story while managing to keep the essence of them
Everyone wants Wally to be alive or brought back. Death is a joke in DC, but somehow in YJ, it does still means something. A joke with a serious punchline. And that's because of Wally. I want Wally to come back through the Speed Force and become the fastest speedster, hang with Dick, and be the heart. But multiple writers of the show have stated over and over again, he's dead. The reason he looked like Conner in the Phantom Zone was because Connor thought he was dead, so Wally would of course look the same to Conner.
I’m all for death sticking in a show where it’s become kind of a joke. Hell I was hoping Jason Todd would never be revived in this show. BUT….Wally coming back would feel right.
They handled it very poorly. You don't kill a speedster by having them go fast and not leave a body. Everyone is going to insist he's in the future/speedforce because of how much comic book evidence we have for it. Especially after Weisman was corrected by DC higher ups and had to change the official answer from "Young Justice doesn't have the speedforce", to "It hasn't been discovered yet.".
I have to disagree, Wally coming back would undermine the character development the crew went through. Artemis is one of my favorite characters and that entire season spent developing her character would be for nothing. Especially after so many years of grief. It’s been entirely to long. Him coming would wouldn’t really do much for the story.
@@Theyadorealyssa That's part of my point, guess I only mentioned death being a joke. I want Wally to be alive, but he does/did a lot because he's staying dead.
Oh so that's why Jason is really alive and the Not Deaths of half the cast in Season 4, because death in YJ was really truly meaningful. Face it the moment they went "Nope, not dead" for all the ones in S4 they removed any meaning death might've had on the show.
"I won't let you throw your life away on a memory of what was or even on a dream of what might have been." Just...wow. That line hits hard. As someone who has had more regrets than he can count, that line hit hard.
I know this is corny but Wally was really the guy you need on a team. Compassionate, laughs when things are wrong and knows who people are. The team wasn't the same afterwards.

@@aaronyayger Those aren't signs that he is still around, those are signs of how important he was to the people who are still alive. Greg Weisman has always been very big on permanent consequences ever since Gargoyles.
@@OmegaII Yeah no. Two of those instances having moments where we see Wally himself thinking outside of the person seeing him, means something. You're just wrong.
@@OmegaII So THAT'S why Conner was able to reenter his life like nothing happened, because consequences are real and permanent in the show. And there is no possible way to write coming back to life that could also have consequences (you know like a certain deception audience-reveal that is a waste of time and could've easily been replaced by a near-death coma where it can be left vague if it was just her subconscious or if it was genuine spirit connection or an attempt at closure exercise) and not reset the characters.
I'm still a firm believer that Wally is absolutely in the speed force, tbh. If they continue the series, they have a perfect springboard into exploring a version of his return in the comics. Like, imagine the story that could sprawl from him returning to find everyone had grown older than him, his girlfriend had moved on, two of his best friends had gotten married, etc.... It'd feel like everyone in his life had moved on without him, and I feel like there is such great story potential there which could end up in him taking up the mantle of the Flash like in the comics. Maybe we could even get a Reverse Flash/Professor Zoom/Savitar story line. Plus, I've always been a Wally fan, so it's always difficult to see him get the short end of the stick and get written out/glossed over in the many iterations, lol
I respect your belief, but my experience with Greg Weisman shows tell me different. I did enjoy that Wally was treated with the respect and dignity that he doesn't get enough of.
@@OmegaII For sure, Wally def deserves so much better in the modern comic sphere tbh. My boy doesn't deserve to be sidelined or killed off so often for Bart, the other Wally, or more Barry
@@OmegaIISo being a glorified guest star who only really exists in the season to die in the end because he was clearly the inferior breed of speedster compared to the other two is respect and dignity?
I loved this video. When Wally died, my jaw dropped. They wrote the character so well that he was willing to sacrifice himself to save everyone. I think Wally knew he was probably going to die, but he went anyway.
It has been years since I watched the first 2 seasons of YJ, and I haven't watched any of the others seasons. But, knowing Wally has is still having an effect on the friends he left behind does bring a tear to my eyes
I’m ngl I never say this but ur channel is one in a blue moon. I love superhero’s and the way u elaborate and break them down is incredible. U have a genuine talent for this kind of stuff and I’m happy that u make these vids. Never stop and I wish you all the best
Man, Wally's death still hits. Man was the heart of the team. Quite the sendoff he got with mindspace and hallucination in s3. Made me at peace with his passing
You always do honor to characters and finally seeing a video about my favorite character really touched me. Thank you for your view and introspect. This video made my day!
I do like the sendoff overall I just hate how sudden it was ''You know the beloved character that retired with the love his life and barely got any screentime this season? Yeah he's gonna die his last day on the job'' and not just that a bomb randomly happens
Jason Spisak was a perfect Wally West. Despite my problems with the show’s writing in seasons 3 and 4 and parts of 2, Wally is great. I looked forward to the possibility of him returning and being the Flash. But oh. Well.
your analysis of wally as his own living memory in artemis' illusion really was chilling especially followed by his actual dialogue. i love this show and wally so much
Too bad we KNOW it was in no way him, just Zatanna and M'gann playing a trick on Artemis, since an honest intervention would be too straight forward, and we can't have that on the show.
When you think about it Wally had such a rough season 2 After being pretty happy and out of the hero game His GF “died” and went undercover He didn’t get any screen time When he finally comes back on his last day on the job probably ever he dies
I doubt theyre gona bring him back as much as the fans would love it because Wally death is the only genuine thing they have left that wasnt forced.... They faked Artimus's death.. then the next they faked superboy, nightwing, the bug got crushed by lovo, the girl got impelled by lobo, rocket fake out.. they were trigger happy with faking deaths... Wallys the only thing giving them credibility
I honestly do think he is in the speed force, I'm going to need to rewatch the phantom zone scenes but im pretty sure anyone was a zone hallucination were normal animation models and anything that existed in the zone was in the weird transparent state.
The reason I'm convinced is because when Zatanna did that one seance thing she said that the stuff there was supposed to be in her head but also that they would try to convince her to stay he didn't but he also couldn't leave so that's why I think he's alive but stuck somewhere else most likely speed force
Wally is a hallucination. He's transparent because Conner remembers at that point that he's supposed to be dead, so he sees him as a fellow ghost. Plus, the Wally hallucination never acts surprised to see Conner and even magically "changes clothes" to race him.
I feel like even after this video you could still make an entire video for the JLU wally, he's just that good of a character in all his different iterations
YJ deaths are kinda weird, some are permanent, some are not, and there are million different ways in DC to bring back people. Part of me doesnt want him back because his death had an impact and meaning, but at the same time "if there is no body, he aint dead".
Why would the impact vanish if he returned? That time would exist, the trick played on Artemis still happened, the changes they've all gone through would still happen. By that logic Conner should've stayed dead, after all it just made BB's depression wasted time for the audience since his breaking point was all a misunderstanding.
Watching Young Justice as a kid and seeing my favourite character die definitely hurt hahaha. I was so happy when I was watching seasons 3 and 4 and see his impact on the other members, even after he died. I do wish he came back in some way, but I feel like that would happen towards the end of the story, which is sad considering how the show has been treated.
Well, I shed a tear at this. Loved Wally in YJ and JL. It was heartbreaking that he died but so outstanding how the creators of the show actually stuck to it and approached the aftermath for the other characters. I can't believe this show was once again discontinued...
At the time when i first watched the series i thought they were building up to Wally eventually returning. Now that I've dealt with loss i see what they were doing is showing that his absence was felt. Between that and the ""death" of super boy, i have a lot of respect for the writers and their ability to show the grieving process
I delayed a month to watch this video because of the weight he had for me, as my favorite character. Since S4 Connor Arc i started to think how much he impacted the plot being dead (like with Beastboy in S3) and he returning would kinda make these scenes lost their impact, then in target comics we see the list of people he impacted is huge, but i still didnt want accept he is gone for good. But this video is my acceptance, i thought he had all this impact bc of how mature he was in S2 or how mature he was needed to be in S1 perdita's episode, but no, he was the extrovert guy who brings light to everyone since episode 1, i never noted how he filled where dick and connor's lacked, he was there to help the issues of the other characters instead to have some to solve and he still fill the same role even passed out Your video brought me peace. R.I.P Wally West, you influence not only all these characters, you influenced me too, and many many fans. That was your legacy
Just like wally, your videos teach me how to live too. :) thank you! I really always look forward "when is Implicitly pretentious going to upload a new video, or just did" and it's so awesome!
In every other superhero show Wally West would come back from the dead that's exactly what happens to Superboy but no he's just dead and he'll probably never come back and the other characters have to live with that
i feel like a lot of these videos end with you telling us it was super difficult because you overthought it. im glad you care so much and i appriciate your detication to making these as good as possible. im sorry you struggle with the complexity of your own projects but im glad it means we get interesting videos and not just clipshows of comic books with psychology buzzwords
I think its even more fascinating to me because he was my flash in justice league first as well but even more....it makes me think of Barry...because Barry in the comics arguably had one of those deaths that stuck for quite a long time and which had a rippling affect on the people who cared about Barry...but especially Wally in the comics who struggled to run faster due to subconsciously holding back because he wanted barry to stay the fastest man alive....lowkey kind of why I thought it was ironic that Wally died to to not being able to run faster/or at least at the same speed as the other speedsters in young justice. I definitely still want Wally to still be alive somewhere in the speed force...both because its what happened to Barry(once they retconned the Skellington thing), because I read 52 and rebirth and that was where Wally was hanging out even when we just thought he was just written out/didn't exist in that universe, and no body means there is always still a chance. but I also like everyone growing due to his influence and having to move on.
just wanted to say that Wally was the only memory in the phantom zone that showed up blue like the people trapped in the phantom zone... yes, after all this time I haven't accepted Wally's death
Artemis moved on and all his friends are 5-10 years older than him now? Wally coming out of the speedforce can have him exit at the same age, the same age as everyone else but with no life experience, or he could have been in the future the same amount of time/far shorter time and still be 20ish.
In the comics, Wally West is the fastest speedster. Him dying in the show bc he was the slowest was nothing more than a DEI move before it was cool. Season 2 of Young Justice was out in 2012. The New 52 comics came out in 2011, which removed Wally entirely, until his announcement of coming back as a biracial kid in January of 2014. DC made a firm order stating that this new version of Wally was the only version to be used going forward. DC killed off Wally and kept him dead 1) because the comics at the time didn’t have him in them, and 2) because he had to be biracial going forward per the order. The best character in Young Justice was killed off to meet a quota. Hope everyone’s happy.
Never thought a memory/dream/echo/hallucination character saying "Dude, we'll make it, we'll make it together!" would send me, but here we are, and it's raining on my face. Inside.

Underrated opinion but I don’t Wally to come back. I love him he’s one of my favorite characters. And yes it’s probably possible. But Dick, Artemis and the whole crew in general have done so much to get over him. An entire season was spent on there character development and growth surrounding his death. Him coming back would just undermind everything everyone else went through. He’s my favorite but he’s gone. He was a plot device and a lot of Wally fans need to realize that.
@@STARK0181The series had two seasons that followed up after the second one. Season 3 came out around 2019, while Season 4 came out in 2021. YJ has entered into a second hiatus until the developers decide on whether or not to go ahead with a fifth season.
Wally and Artemis were my favorite characters and couple on the show. I was really sad that they killed him off. Never saw the rest of the show the same way.
To this day... I am glad they let Wally's death stick. Don't get me wrong, I love him, I was crushed with his fate... but that is why it has meaning, Wally made the sacrifice, he left the life then when the call came anyway... he answered it, and even in his last moments, when he understood what would happen... he accepted it with pride and dignity. Characters deserve to have and ending, be it by letting it go from the mission at some point or... by the ultimate sacrifice, but we as readers as viewers need to accept that ending, it isnt always satisfying or easy, but i think just bringing back those characters like every odd week, weakens their meaning. Another character i feel the same on this is Lelouch, i understand why people want him alive but his meaning was his sacrifice, I don't watched the new movie and even knowing that is just a "alternate" ending, i still think that we should have let him rest in the amazing ending he had.
If Jason Bard is capable of making Artemis truly happy, then Wally can stay gone if I may say. I still want to see Mary and Rudy, Wally's parents again. I sure hope they are ok. But if this show would have continued and everything, everything turned to shit, I would desperately want Wally to be brought back. With the way Wally died leaving "no trace" I think it's still possible for him to be alive. But again, if his family, his friends, and the love of his life are happy and ok, Wally can rest in peace. Wally West has been my favorite Flash and one of my favorite heroes since the Justice League animated series, and he was one of my favorites on Young Justice. It was hard to see him gone like that. But he died a hero and I appreciate to see everyone missing him as a testament of how much Wally was and is loved. Thank you for the video.
Plus being the inferior speedster in every way compared to the right genes of the Allens means he deserved to die for not being good enough to not get hit.
A guy who lives his life fast but then learns how to slowdown and appreciate the things around him, great writing

This series is the Reason I Became a Wally West Fan and got deeper into his comics, I Still wish he Came back RIP my Fav Flash 😭⚡️🪦
I will never. Ever. Ever Ever. Ever. Be over his loss in my life.
@@1993digifanHermano if that’s what you got from the show, then you haven’t learned a thing.
I loved this video. When Wally died, my jaw dropped. They wrote the character so well that he was willing to sacrifice himself to save everyone. I think Wally knew he was probably going to die, but he went anyway.
Wally was the team's lightning rod.
I miss Wally so fucking much, best version of Wally hands down
Wallys my favourite character ever not just in young justice but where ever he appears he’s always so endearing to me.
It has been years since I watched the first 2 seasons of YJ, and I haven't watched any of the others seasons. But, knowing Wally has is still having an effect on the friends he left behind does bring a tear to my eyes
trying so hard to not tear up watching this, young justice is one of my favorite shows and wally end always hits me emotionally
Wally wasn’t the fastest, the strongest, not even the smartest. But he was good, and when you’re really good, then sometimes…that’s good enough.
I’m ngl I never say this but ur channel is one in a blue moon. I love superhero’s and the way u elaborate and break them down is incredible. U have a genuine talent for this kind of stuff and I’m happy that u make these vids. Never stop and I wish you all the best
Its weird that he was slowest in YJ but in the main continuity hes the fastest Flash.
IIRC, he lost his speed and when he regained it(teen years), he was one of the slowest speedsters for a while.
Man, Wally's death still hits. Man was the heart of the team. Quite the sendoff he got with mindspace and hallucination in s3. Made me at peace with his passing
Thank you for doing a Wally episode. He's the soul of any team. Seriously, thank you
Wally West, the one character we wished he could come back.
I started watching young justice for robin but returned every week for Wally
Your essays are very entertaining, relaxing and informative. Plus, you have led me to other musical artists I now enjoy! Thank you!
You always do honor to characters and finally seeing a video about my favorite character really touched me. Thank you for your view and introspect. This video made my day!
Still the one of saddest death ever😢 loved the video
I do like the sendoff overall I just hate how sudden it was ''You know the beloved character that retired with the love his life and barely got any screentime this season? Yeah he's gonna die his last day on the job'' and not just that a bomb randomly happens
Jason Spisak was a perfect Wally West. Despite my problems with the show’s writing in seasons 3 and 4 and parts of 2, Wally is great. I looked forward to the possibility of him returning and being the Flash. But oh. Well.
Watching this and somehow it has started to rain in my house
your analysis of wally as his own living memory in artemis' illusion really was chilling especially followed by his actual dialogue. i love this show and wally so much
Too bad we KNOW it was in no way him, just Zatanna and M'gann playing a trick on Artemis, since an honest intervention would be too straight forward, and we can't have that on the show.
You did us dirty by starting off with the saddest scene 😭 great video tho
When you think about it Wally had such a rough season 2
After being pretty happy and out of the hero game
His GF “died” and went undercover
He didn’t get any screen time
When he finally comes back on his last day on the job probably ever he dies
In my heart, he will someday comeback in a lightning and become who he was always supposed to be, the greatest Flash of All. And that's enough for me
A social upbeat friend, is a blessing to have.
Stop coping
Oh god I'm gonna cry aren't I
No, Leo, please wait, I’m not ready to be broken again!
Bro after wally died I couldn't watch the show anymore. It hurt too much ti watch a show where my favorite character is dead
Wally has always been my favorite character in young justice, great video
This Wally West maybe the slowest version of him. But he makes up for that for his other qualities that truly made him relatable and a hero.
“Artemis is so gonna kill me for this”… man I’ve been watching this show for the first time this past week and that was hard to hear man
Well, I shed a tear at this.
But this video is my acceptance, i thought he had all this impact bc of how mature he was in S2 or how mature he was needed to be in S1 perdita's episode, but no, he was the extrovert guy who brings light to everyone since episode 1, i never noted how he filled where dick and connor's lacked, he was there to help the issues of the other characters instead to have some to solve and he still fill the same role even passed out
Your video brought me peace.
In every other superhero show Wally West would come back from the dead that's exactly what happens to Superboy but no he's just dead and he'll probably never come back and the other characters have to live with that
A perfect love essay to a great animated character. Miss ya Wally West ❤️⚡️
This video is such a banger that I'm crying.
How dare you make me feel all these feelings😢another amazing video dude.
i feel like a lot of these videos end with you telling us it was super difficult because you overthought it. im glad you care so much and i appriciate your detication to making these as good as possible. im sorry you struggle with the complexity of your own projects but im glad it means we get interesting videos and not just clipshows of comic books with psychology buzzwords
I was literally looking to see if you had a video about this today great job man
I think its even more fascinating to me because he was my flash in justice league first as well but even more....it makes me think of Barry...because Barry in the comics arguably had one of those deaths that stuck for quite a long time and which had a rippling affect on the people who cared about Barry...but especially Wally in the comics who struggled to run faster due to subconsciously holding back because he wanted barry to stay the fastest man alive....lowkey kind of why I thought it was ironic that Wally died to to not being able to run faster/or at least at the same speed as the other speedsters in young justice.
Wally running that girls heart across the county has always been one of my favourite episodes
You have such impeccable music taste.
I want to see more of Wally in all of DC. I've been rewatching Young Justice was thinking about him and his character. One of my favorites.
Always a treat to get a breakdown on Wally
Love your videos man
I would like to see your essays on Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Just discover your channel and can't stop watching.
just wanted to say that Wally was the only memory in the phantom zone that showed up blue like the people trapped in the phantom zone... yes, after all this time I haven't accepted Wally's death
Great, now i can't wait for a video on Artemis. Excellent video as usual though, Bro. Gave me closure.
Look, if Weisman brings back Wally or reveals he's still alive, it's going to be because he thought of something even more upsetting.
I’ve been waiting for this one...
One of my favorite characters, thank you❤️🙏🏾.
Babe wake up, new Implicitly Pretentious video dropped
A beautiful Sunday morning and upload from implicitly pretentious. Today is going to be a good day
Been so stoked for this video
Bad things happen to good people
Ok i'll rewatch young justice
Never thought a memory/dream/echo/hallucination character saying "Dude, we'll make it, we'll make it together!" would send me, but here we are, and it's raining on my face. Inside.
would love to learn your editing style it just make me feel like home the fact your not at a mill is crazy man content is really diffrent from what im seeing giving me discovery but cartoon network vibe i love it man keep it up
Please cover Razer and Aya! I still miss that series so much
i didn't need to cry today man
I needed to watch this, Wally is my favorite character from YJ
Always nice to see a new upload
shit man i just love your video essays so much. Absolute GOAT. incredibly well thought out and researched. Love ya. Wally West my beloved ;-; edit: dude wtf u made me cry fuck you
Underrated opinion but I don’t Wally to come back.
Isn't YJ still cancelled?
@@STARK0181The series had two seasons that followed up after the second one. Season 3 came out around 2019, while Season 4 came out in 2021. YJ has entered into a second hiatus until the developers decide on whether or not to go ahead with a fifth season.
Wally and Artemis were my favorite characters and couple on the show. I was really sad that they killed him off. Never saw the rest of the show the same way.
I love how all the flash characters are the emotional anchors of their teams
He was my favorite character, he was a funny and social guy. When season 2 ending aired It was first time I was shocked and crushed by a show.
What a perfect video
In retrospect Wally's death is the most obvious. Because he was the most regular guy, super speed not withstanding, his death hits the hardest.
Plus being the inferior speedster in every way compared to the right genes of the Allens means he deserved to die for not being good enough to not get hit.
❤ the insight of the content.
I just want a season 5 😐. Also nice video, very well put together.
I wanted to see him and Artemis have a child so much
