Sounds of Solidarity Ensemble - Helîme & Arix

On 15th April, we, as the Sounds of Solidarity Ensemble, performed to express our grief and sorrow for the thousands of people who died, and millions of people severely affected by the Turkey & Syria earthquakes.
The first lament you hear, sang by Suna Alan ''Helîme' is about about separation, longing and helplessness.
It was followed by a Kurdish lament ‘ Arix’ remembers the victims of the 1939 Erzincan earthquake. On the night of 1939 December, the earthquake that caused tens of thousands of casualties in Erzincan and many neighbouring provinces also occurred in the village of Arix in Sivas. The loss of life after the earthquake in Arix village was higher than in other places because Arix village was located on the earthquake fault line. The number of people who died was so high that in the harsh winter conditions, more than one person was buried in some graves.This situation remains in people's memory as a terrible event. Because of all these sufferings, laments are sung by women at the graves in Arix village. One of them is this lament called "Arix", sung by a woman named "Tûre".
The beautifully organised event was a great success, bringing so many great artists together and filling the Royal Albert Hall with the most amazing audience who made us feel hugged.
