3:25 If I had to guess, I'd say that, aside from the intro, the only time you can walk around without any Pokémon is in the Safari zone. Since you don't have any Pokémon, it's assuming you must be in the Safari zone, and that's why it's constantly playing the Safari tutorial. Maybe it's doing the tutorial (rather than starting a real Safari "battle") because you don't have any Safari Balls (do you get the Safari Balls before or after the tutorial?). Either way, no idea why it's making them double battles.
You actually have pokemon in the safari zone because you can surf and such. It's called "The Great Marsh" in those games, so I have really no idea why the Great Marsh options came up
I think the game is coded to assume that a wild Battle when you have no Pokémon is a Safari zone "style" of Battle, since there you can't Battle with your Pokémon either

So, Gen 2 was really stable when it came to battling without a Pokemon, I wonder if they knew that someone would hack in and try to become the Champ without any Pokemon and they would just let them win. And yes, try to fight Silver in Gold/Silver with that Togepi, and see what Pokemon will he have since you never chose your starter
hmm, a lot of these glitches actually give away a lot on how they handle your inventory and certain mechanics. For example, the double wild encounter with safari balls, most likely the game checks whether or not you have pokemon with you, since you don't (and the only situation where you don't have pokemon in your inventory is the safari zone), it skips to the safari zone mechanic. so this means that all encounters are programmed in the same method of the code with a switch statement most likely. and for the pokemon center in X, most likely just something like Foreach(pokemon in party), as such it doesn't give an issue, since your party is empty, so it just skips out of that loop.
I think you’re in a dubble battle cuse the game thinks you have barry with you, and because you don’t have a pokemon and don’t send someting out, the game thinks you’re in the safari zone

@M0nk3yT It's actually what the Any% speedrun does. You use the Coin Case glitch with a specific arbitrary code execution setup to teleport next to Red with a pokemon count of 0. When you enter a battle with a pokemon count of 0 in Gen 2, you win instantly, so it just goes straight to the credits.

Probably Satoru Iwata's coding skills. He worked directly on Gold and Silver, remade the entire source of Gen 1 pokemon from 0 with just reverse enginering and added retrocompatibility for the pokemons. Man was legendary, so I doubt that such a failsafe on the game he worked directly is a coincidence.
You should see what the rival battle looks like in Gold when you don't have a starter. I am curious which Pokemon he picks when he has the choice of all three. Also, try beating gold with no starter and lets see what shows up in the Hall of Fame.
Ruby/Saphire/Emerald crack tip: If you use "walk through wall hack" to speak to the man in the lab next to fortree city (without having a battle with whatever team there is) he'll give you a castform, but if you leave walking through the wall and talk to him again (without having a battle with team whatever) he'll give you another one. THERE YOU'LL HAVE INFINITY CASTFORMS
10:29 That encounter animation is a glitch animation. It is used no where else in the game and is the only wild pokemon battle animation that "fades" to white instead of black. I know this from hours and hours of the pomeg berry glitch to finish my pokedex, before I did it about 20 times (about 1 hour each for the last 15 and 4 hours for the first 5 because I was doing it wrong, so about 35 hours altogether) and got annoyed and just used an emulator, (cheating devices for gba games are expensive ok?) injected my save file, (with r4 card) put in some codes, exported the battery save, injected it back into the cartridge, and I was done. That was a bunch of unnecessary stuff that was about me. (which is irrelevant and doesn't matter) The point is, it's a glitch animation.

Like, if you ever trigger a battle without having any Pokemon (only done through cheating, of course), a unique flag gets raised and something humorous happens. It doesn't have to be a game-breaking glitch. I'd probably make it so that certain strings of text from people always reads from a different, 'redirect' string, calling you out for cheating and making you unable to proceed since it never raises the intended flag you'd get after the normal text.

Gen 3 is my favorite to break because it was the first game I messed around with cheats in. If you walk through walls on the moving truck in a specific way, you can be teleported to a different town. That's how I discovered decamark and the infinite Pokemon in the Pokemon center glitch. It's one of my favorite memories as a kid
I wish we could convince the bushes to cut themselves and complete the entire game without pokemon in the party. You are hte CHAMPION! How did you do it? Well I just walked in and when they challenged me I was like "no" and they were like "Total power move, I respect that" and then they told me I was the champ, so ... yeah.
i remember once when i used a gameshark when i was kid to get all three starters. one time the game glitched when i went to get the master ball from him and suddenly elm wanted me to get a starter pokemon instead. but since there was none there i found myself forever stuck

If you use "walk through wall hack" to speak to the man in the lab next to fortree city (without having a battle with whatever team there is) he'll give you a castform, but if you leave walking through the wall and talk to him again (without having a battle with team whatever) he'll give you another one.

10:29 That encounter animation is a glitch animation. It is used no where else in the game and is the only wild pokemon battle animation that "fades" to white instead of black. I know this from hours and hours of the pomeg berry glitch to finish my pokedex, before I did it about 20 times (about 1 hour each for the last 15 and 4 hours for the first 5 because I was doing it wrong, so about 35 hours altogether) and got annoyed and just used an emulator, (cheating devices for gba games are expensive ok?) injected my save file, (with r4 card) put in some codes, exported the battery save, injected it back into the cartridge, and I was done.
That was a bunch of unnecessary stuff that was about me. (which is irrelevant and doesn't matter) The point is, it's a glitch animation.
Barry is so addicted to messing up the timelines, he straight up abandoned The Flash and just went to Pokemon after they kicked him out 😂😂😂

the thing in diamond/pearl actually seems like a great failsafe, if you don't have a Pokemon it catches one for you, too bad it just crashes
you should try going into areas where you're supposed to get a free pokemon and see if the game lets you play like its normal from that point

Wow... Those Gen 2 games are surprisingly stable when it comes to handling battling without a Pokemon.
Question is... Why couldn't Game Freak implement that similarly into all the newer games?
I'm going to guess it's because Game Freak had Iwata put in a ton of work on 2nd gen's code. That dude was a genius.
The setup is stable, but it also lets you win the game with no effort. Maybe they didn’t like that idea.

Perhaps they can do something else about that? Like, if you ever trigger a battle without having any Pokemon (only done through cheating, of course), a unique flag gets raised and something humorous happens. It doesn't have to be a game-breaking glitch.
I'd probably make it so that certain strings of text from people always reads from a different, 'redirect' string, calling you out for cheating and making you unable to proceed since it never raises the intended flag you'd get after the normal text.

In diamond and pearl at the lab, dawn will say that her Pokémon was ...( the Pokémon you and your rival didn’t pick) I wonder what dawn would have said if you stayed at the lab.
It would've also been interesting to see what Rowan says when he asks if you want to give a nickname to your Pokémon, which you don't have.

Gen 3 is my favorite to break because it was the first game I messed around with cheats in. If you walk through walls on the moving truck in a specific way, you can be teleported to a different town. That's how I discovered decamark and the infinite Pokemon in the Pokemon center glitch. It's one of my favorite memories as a kid

i remember once when i used a gameshark when i was kid to get all three starters. one time the game glitched when i went to get the master ball from him and suddenly elm wanted me to get a starter pokemon instead. but since there was none there i found myself forever stuck
