Michael calls his first rifle “Ol’ Reliable” because, even after 35+ years, his budget-priced .22 caliber Marlin 25 still shoots true and has provided decades of affordable enjoyment. It’s one of those few guns that he just can’t part with no matter how old it gets.
He bought his first gun back in 1985 after he turned 18 years old. Fresh out of high school, Michael didn’t have a lot of money on hand. All he really wanted was an affordable, reliable, well-built, and accurate gun. My first also, I believe in 1977, shot many squirrels racoons and occasional , grouse with mine. Nice thing about it is you can still find magazines for it but a later purchase, a 25N, forget it. Only mag listed for that model is an aftermarket one for around $54.00. (2023)
The Glenfield Model 25 was my 1st firearm also, and it would seem those of us in the Marlin family since the 70's and 80's is quite extensive. I too received mine as a Christmas gift in 1982 when I was 8 years old. Of course I still have it, and I even stumbled upon an '85 Model 25 in 22 magnum a few years ago.
This was my first gun too, my grandpa gave it to me when I was 8 and I have loved it ever since. It's stupidly accurate, I learned to be an expert marksman with it. I got to the point where I could reliably shoot leaves off bushes by shooting the stems from 25 yards, and later moved to shooting grapes from 100 yards, that's a really fun challenge and the 25N is well up to the task. I really like the action, it's so dang smooth and tight and can be operated extremely quickly, I got three shots off on a coyote once in just over a second, I've never shot a bolt .22 that cycles so naturally.

The first one that I bought myself with lawn mowing, snow shoveling and paper delivering money. 1984 K-Mart.
It came with a 4x Tasco scope(junk) and it still is topped with a junk ~$35 CenterPoint 3-9x40 SFP scope now and I can't justify spending more on "better" optics. The iron sights are simple but work and are the only thing that I would consider upgrading.
Amazingly precise and accurate rifle. I'll never give this one up.
Winchester 42MaX subsonic 42gr @ 1050fps and CCI Supressor 45gr@950fps both lead hollow point. You can stack them like coins and they hit hard.
Squirrels and rats beware.

Marlin Model 25 was my first gun too, my parents gave it to me when I was 12 in 1986. Like others here, amongst all my friends, mine was the most accurate of course as they were all shooting Ruger or Marlin autoloaders. Shot everything from pigeons to starlings, hundreds of ground squirrels, rock chucks and many bottles. Learned a life lesson with that gun when I shot a hole through the ceiling in the living room accidentally. That has stuck with me ever since. I am painfully careful with firearms because of that and work endlessly with my kids regarding firearm safety. Still have that gun. Will never leave my family.
My first as well. My Dad have it to me for my birthday when I turned 15. My kids have learned on it too.
I’ve been collecting guns for 25 years. My collection started with this gun as well. Want to thanks Dicks Sporting Goods for what has been a epic journey into the hobby.

I got mine for Christmas in 86 or 87. Mine is as nice as yours. It was my first rifle. I'll never get rid of it.
It shoots everything I have ded it super accurately except stingers. It just doesn't like stingers, but yellow jackets, vipers, federal hyper velocity are all hole punchers.
A Marlin was the first rifle I ever owned too. Mine was the Marlin 80.
This was my first gun as well my father gave it to me and I'll be giving it to one of my son's years from now.

My first gun as well. It was my Christmas gift in 1984 and is in remarkably good condition considering that it was the property of a seven year old who did all of his own maintenance and cleaning.
It was my first gun also, got it for Christmas when I was twelve!, still accurate and I will give it to my daughter to enjoy
My first gun was a very old rare Eastern Arms .410 single shot. Was my fathers first gun back in the 1920s. Harvest many critters back them days. Made Papa proud! Bring home the grub! That’s how we learn to hunt. Now I’m 70 and wish all well for you know it all! Love ya the same hahahahaha
This is my first gun I got it for Christmas in 1977 and I still own it. I put a period correct weaver 4x scope on it.
The Marlin / glenfield model 25 22 long rifle it's probably my favorite 22 I've had a quite a few of them always sold them but always come back to them accurate and well built guns. I've killed hundreds of squirrels of the varmints and a few deer with mine!
Very cool deal deal mine too. Hopefully Marlin makes a comeback through ruger.
I have one I picked up few years ago and did a little repair work and refinished the stock but never shot it other than a function test.
With the high cost of ammo I broke out the rimfires for low budget shooting.
The rifle had that old craptastic tube scope on it so I took it of and replaced it with an old 3×9 Tasco I had in my collection.
I could not believe how accurate that little rifle is. After sighting in I was getting dime groups at 50 yds off the bench.

I still have mine my dad gave it to me I remember taking a hunter's safety course and we had to go to Ben Avery Shooting Range in AZ to qualify and we used this same rifle I shot better than my dad did lol so he said son here you can have the dam thing you shoot it better anyway

Thank you I still got my first rifle and shotgun and handgun . There a CBC bolt action 22 lr and 870 Rem lefty and RUGER MK II Pistol.

My first gun was the Marlin Model 60 in a black synthetic stock with a 14+1 tubular magazine
(aside from the Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works .410 Champion that I rescued & adopted from behind a trash dumpster)
I bought my glenfeld 25 used in 81 wouldn't trade it for anything very accurate mags are still easy to find

1st rifle, 80 bucks in the 70's fro, ,y Uncles Western Auto where they were next to bikes and BB's, picked walnuts and Persimmons to raise the cash.

Swell video. I agree about the hunting course. If nothing else, it covers ETHICS with firearms. I have a meager brace of .22's. Never wanted a bolt gun till I saw this beat-up Marlin 20 for $50 in 2010. The rifle cleaned up well and is a tack driver with it's Micro-groove barrel. Adding an inexpensive BSA S4X32WR scope (optic??) only improves its accuracy. Only other Marlin I own is my Papoose purchased in 1992.

My first gun was the Marlin Glenfield Model 25. Is this what you have? You didn't really show it. I got mine in 1973 for Christmas and it still looks and shoots great.
I will throw my hat in the ring by also saying this was my first rifle which my father bought in the mid 1970s if I remember correctly when I was about 10 years old... I kept it all those years but about 10 years ago I decided to sell everything I own that I didn't use on a regular basis and am now sorry that I parted with it just for the sentimental reasons

Still have it. Only thing not original, are the magazines, which are for a 25, but fit the 20, as well.
I bought an old Glenfield/Marlin model 20 a couple months ago for dirt cheap, best I can tell is a 60s production. They shoot great, my only complaint is the trigger is stiff as a board, I would imagine the 25 isn’t much better

I was going to purchase a Savage 22LR but the man behind the counter suggested getting the Ruger 10/22 Now 12 Ruger rifles and handguns later !!!
My first was a revelation single shot .22. Was the only gun I was very accurate with. No scope. No squirrel was safe.

This gun is the worst ever made. NO. It not. Same storyhere . I sold most my guns , but not this one model25. Is the best. I would buy another in a heart beat.
