    I remember learning the history of French toast in a previous video from EpicureanRd. Button Up is making French toast at next level, everything looked great though. I love the mom-and-pop hole in the walls. Thanks for sharing, nice work guys!!

      Button Up Cafe is actually one of our favorite hole-in-the-wall breakfasts on Oahu. Glad you enjoyed it.

    It is funny to see that Young is so sure about white rice with Locomoco. Even the lady behind you noticed your conversation 😂.

      Yes, she was absolutely emphatic. Never get between a Korean Lady and her opinions about Kalbi!! 😉

    I agree with Young. Fried rice is already mixed with meat and sauce. Best to eat entree with steam rice and mix it together to be "like a fried rice"

    • @steveandyoung
      @steveandyoung 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So you're saying we should just pretend the steamed rice is the fried rice's cooler cousin? I'm all for it!

    Thank you for mentioning Hilo as the original place. Though two places claim to be first, Cafe 100 or Lincoln Cafe. Lincoln has passed through several new owners now known a Koji's. Their loco deluxe has 2 patties, portages sausage, kimchee, on a bed of rice and mac salad. Cafe 100 has different meats besides their basic. Both are limiting their hours because of staff shortage. Love your vlogs and review of all the local places.

      Ah, the age-old debate of Cafe 100 vs. Lincoln. Maybe we need to go there and try both to see who does it best! C'mon, twist my arm! 😉

    The best breakfast in Hawaii is at seven eleven. You can even enjoy it while sitting in H1 traffic.

      Well, we might disagree with you on that, but Seven Eleven is definitely the best late-night snack joint for us.

    As an Asian, i am strongly agree with Young. I believe fried rice should be enjoyed in its pure form. This is especially true when it comes to loco moco. The meat in loco moco is already seasoned, and the gravy is quite salty, so combining it with fried rice would make the dish extremely salty. Additionally, fried rice has a strong flovor on its own , which might clash with loco moco and take over the taste. 😅

      I guess there's a point to be made either way! It’s like trying to mix classical music with heavy metal; both are great on their own, but together? A recipe for chaos!

      You’re right-nothing says “gourmet” like a meal that doesn’t come with a side of cardboard! We’ll keep that in mind for next time!
      Actually, this is a very "local" place, so it's not very fancy, but the food is very good. 😉
