He was a great singer and an enormous talent, but he became an extreme hedonist who was repeatedly arrested for impaired driving putting innocent lives at risk. He like Whitney Houston blew their fame and fortune. Enjoy the music, but please don't celebrate or emulate the person behind the music.
@@johnbaker5828 If you look into his life story you'd understand. He lost his Mother, Boyfriend, and Record Company all within a short period of time sending him into depression. He thought his only way to escape the pain was to do such and drugs unfortunately are so addictive its hard to let go. He donated so much to charity and helped others anonymously and has done a ton for the LGBT community. He was flawed as all people are, but the important part is he wasn't a hedonist searching to be a menace to society but someone who felt alone, misunderstood, and lost. It may seem like wealth and fame could make all of that go away but it doesn't. Star People '97 by him iterates those feelings of money solving nothing.
The blend of George nailing the hell outta that 1950s Elvis-esque swagger, his brand of effortless 80s cool, & the stripped-down nature of this song (given how over-the-top the 80s could be) was simply perfection 👌🏿 The boy was just LEGENDARY. We miss you, George!
It's amazing that George produced this album almost completely by himself! His first ever solo album which won awards left, right and centre - but very much deserved! For those of us who grew up alongside George's career, it doesn't seem all that long ago, for myself anyway. He was the complete package of songwriter, producer, musician, outstanding vocalist, brilliant performer, great stage presence with the ability to always connect with his audience, philanthropist and even dabbled in some acting. George had it all and more! A very mature artist and young man from before the time his career took off. It's very few people who are ever truly blessed with such genius. In my humble opinion, George was certainly amongst the very best.🇦🇺💖🕊🎶🎵
I was lucky enough to grow up at the same time as him and his career (I was 12 in 1982). I followed everything from the birth of Wham! to his solo career. I was (am?) crazy about him and his work.
@@lucybrignall8579 I have to disagree with you there to a certain point. George wished to be famous and loved for his song-writing ability plus performing, and he was. He simply didn't wish to change himself, yet be true to who he was and his goals. Becoming a famous worldwide singer-songwriter at only 18yrs really blew his mind and it certainly did when he went solo with Faith. He loved performing, his supporters, and working on albums but hated the Music Industry and what came with it. He dreaded having to do endless interviews and promotion of his work. He simply wanted to write and saw the rest as a waste of time. It should be the record companies doing the promotional work, although he can't escape having to do some too. After the release of Faith, it was chaotic for him and he was burnt out whilst still incredibly young. No-one cared. It got to the point that when he released his next album, he refused to promote it. Yet, who hates the video to Freedom 90? It's full of super-models, both sexes, and a great video. Yet Sony was still up in arms. All the guy wanted was to grieve for his first true love, whilst resting his worn out body and mind. That's not to much to ask considering the circumstances. What good is a burnt out star to anyone? Yes, his life would have been much happier if everyone had stood back, (press/media, record label etc.) if they actually took the time to know him personally and understood that he needed time to himself due to the vulnerabilities he had, but the media were obsessed with him and refused to let up following him around endlessly. This didn't mean that he was miserable 24/7. George had his private life and amazing private times. His cousin posted a video, although it's not our business as it's George's off time, but shows him snorkelling with family. It's those times that we don't get to witness, nor should we, during his down time that he experienced great joy too. He was surrounded by a small, extremely loyal group of friends that he could be himself around. In a nutshell, he wore his heart on his sleeve and felt very deeply. When emotions are so close to the surface like George's, it makes it so much harder to appreciate great times when constantly hounded by media. Imagine the frustration? It was simpler things that made him happy such as donating money to whomever needed it, lounging around at home or on holiday, the things that we all take for granted. Appearing at Charity Events or in television skits. He was a great sport when it came to stepping up to raise money for a good cause. We don't see too many others who are well-known doing this. I agree that George didn't get to experience the happiness he thought he would get after working so hard for it. Yet, he enjoyed some wonderful times during his lifetime and made a pretty penny that made it easier as well. There's a line in one of his songs that says "....the road that I had walked upon, Well it filled my pockets but emptied out my soul". He had stated that his future albums would be available to be downloaded by anyone for free as he had been well paid over the years and didn't require anymore of the public's money. Unfortunately, that next album wasn't meant to be made, but George enjoyed a wealthy lifestyle none the less and did enjoy many things that most could never afford to do. I would never state that I wished he was alive still, as he is finally at peace and deserves to enjoy this. Sure, fame bought him great misery, but it brought him great joy too. Maybe, it balanced out somehow?💖🎶
@@LilithUnicorn Same here, except only a few years apart. Weren't we blessed for having to have experienced the entire phenomenon of WHAM! and to follow this up with the legend that is George Michael. From start to finish, it's certainly been a ride! Hardly a day rarely goes by that I haven't listened to something of George's great work. Only moments ago I was watching him on some videos. He's like a faithful friend who is always around when needed. He was even singing 'Spinning the Wheel' whilst I was connecting with a very hard floor and broke my predominant arm in three places! Was he implying something?, I often ask myself. Yes, it was a great time and still is, as George gifted something of himself to us whenever he released a song, which we get to continue to enjoy to this day.💖🎶
This guy is something else. He understood style beyond designers but there is so much more..... he lyrics especially in 'older' shows emotional connection and intelligence beyond most
holy shit I just realized what this song is actually about, he's wanting more solid commitment and "faith" isn't like a vague hope but both faithfulness from a lover and faith as in, something real he can put his faith into
good call. "this foolish notion" is exactly what faith is. but for some people thats all they have, and for some people it pays off. faith is dumb, but to make a song, and a hit out of it is great. love this guy.
Tonia Folkes media wasnt nearly as big and world wide as it is now and its time has past for most people because they have niki minaj and all those , amazing song tho
+Tonia Folkes I dunno... but he guys, can I make a suggestion, and I think my bud Tonia would agree!!! We CANNOT forget these classics, these PIONEERS that paved the way so that people, GAY and STRAIGHT... male and female, can be free, be happy and feel good like Nature intended. Nature Bless America!!! We need to have more gay artists, add them to your IPADS, folks.. add 'em to your playlists. Look, Madonna, Nicki,... they are queens, and I LOVE them, but I know they'd be in full salute if we were to say, hey... we need more of our own angels on stage, screen and belting.
Wow, this man had it all. The voice, the looks, the moves, the kindness -- truly a legend, and absolutely one of the best vocalists in all pop history. I remember the Freddy Mercury tribute concert, and how everyone struggled, like really, really struggled, to do justice to Freddy's vocal mastery. Except George Michael; there was no struggle; he just stepped up and rocked it, with all the power, range, and heart-uplifting nuance that is available to the human voice. I briefly fantasized that Queen would continue with George Michael at the mic, but alas. :'( ....Ok, I'll stop ranting now. This song is just stunning; thanks for the memories, GM. ❤
Too true. I remember watching the Tribute and when they introduced GM I thought “really? George Michael singing a Freddy Mercury song”? Then I was totally blown away. He also did an amazing duet with Elton John on Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me and I just realized he did a cover of The First Time (Roberta Flack). What a talent. RIP George Michael. Gone too soon.
I remember hearing the surviving members of Queen wanted George to be their new lead singer after the tribute concert. George declined, saying he could never replace Freddie. While I understand that sentiment, it's kinda frustrating. George Michael & Queen would have been a GREAT pairing together throughout the rest of the 1990s.
@@djnary2896 omggggg yes. I wished for that to happen, even like, occasionally? Like, an album? Maybe six? A world tour or....five? You know, just a wee collaboration. It would've been amazing.
Saw him in concert when I was 16 years old (August 1988) & it was one of the highlights of my life! I didn’t stop dancing & singing through the entire performance! He was 25 at the time & his stamina running around the stage while singing was astonishing! ❤️ & miss him so much!
I first saw him in the song father figure which came in my recommendation ( 1 year before) and instantly he became my favourite singer. I'm 16 now and I'm very proud to be one of his fan. Hope his soul is singing to all the angles above their. Ohh he himself was one of the angles (though a male😅)

I had the opportunity to see him in concert and he was absolutely EXTRAORDINARY!!! Gone way too soon. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world and continue to RIP George Michael ⚘⚘⚘⚘🕊🕊🕊🕊

I guess like every parent he just wanted him to have a normal job and not fail in the business :-) BUT George proved him wrong with not listening to him.
My dad told me that his brother loved George Michael, he said Faith was his favorite song. Sadly, both George and my uncle passed away.I never got to see my uncle grooving with this song
Well as long as we all know that Jesus Christ is LORD and Christianity is The real Faith then I don't really have a problem with you folks...😅 P.S I love George Michael. Anyone here listening to last Christmas??? Anybody???
How can you say that you love George Michael when George Michael was an openly gay man; and your god clearly hates gays? Just a few: Leviticus 18:22 ~ You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. Leviticus 20:13 ~ If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. Jude 1:7 ~ Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Timothy 1:8-11 - Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
Anyone who thinks that George Michael was anything short of a brilliant songwriter, singer, performer and producer of his own work is an idiot. GM we love you and miss you. #gmforever #nextgen
Oh,, George! What you did to this little girl in the 80s!! I knew nothing of your torment, your sexuality, family, etc... I was enamored by just YOU! Today, as a 47 year woman who has lived a lot of life, my eyes well up thinking of all you went through in your short lived life. Love and miss you, and your talent so much.
Every time I hear the church organ playing Freedom in the intro I am struck by the profundity it achieved, despite being a few seconds of a simple 80s pop song. It conveyed George's reinvention and rebirth - a new beginning - so beautifully. Followed by that rocking steel guitar; that joyous, infectious beat. It's appropriate that George was of Greek descent - his voice and charisma were surely on direct loan from the gods. It is bittersweet to hear the song's promise of what was to come today, knowing its maker's story is now over. I regret I lost my appreciation for George after Faith.. following Listen Without Prejudice he seemed to become dour, bitter, complaining, frustrated. I regret I didn't understand at the time what he was going through; the heavy burden fame, his insecurities, sorrows, fears and near death placed on him. But I sure appreciate him now, blessed with a talent that ran so wide and deep it still moves and inspires, even if it is only an echo now. I still can't quite believe he's gone; death seems impossible for a man who was so full of life. I guess leaving on Christmas day carries some symbolism - another birth - moving on to the next adventure, whatever it may be. I hope in the twilight of his consciousness George Michael found the peace that often seemed to elude him during his life. He gave so much to so many. Resolution - freedom - is the very least he deserved.
The man was a musical legend and this probably one of the most iconic videos ever , George will live on forever through the wonderful music he created and left us

yes he was gay but goddam he was a beautiful gay man and that's coming from a heterosexual woman and not just that, before people knew his sexual preference they all listened, jammed, danced and pumped his sounds in the car and how many musicians does anyone know that has had a number one chart topper featuring nothing but the most highly photographed..the highest paid and sought after super models?

This album ruled the world in 1988. Still a great listen to this day.
1988, the year I went to University...so many beautiful memories and this was the musical backdrop!
i was in jr high in 88 this song rock then

The blend of George nailing the hell outta that 1950s Elvis-esque swagger, his brand of effortless 80s cool, & the stripped-down nature of this song (given how over-the-top the 80s could be) was simply perfection 👌🏿 The boy was just LEGENDARY. We miss you, George!

How did he die

He had a fatty liver.
Such a shame it didn't give him any comfort.
I was lucky enough to grow up at the same time as him and his career (I was 12 in 1982). I followed everything from the birth of Wham! to his solo career. I was (am?) crazy about him and his work.
For some reason him & Don Johnson
From Miami Vice just summarize that entire era to me style wise.
Yes, it was a great time and still is, as George gifted something of himself to us whenever he released a song, which we get to continue to enjoy to this day.💖🎶
Too bad he is gone he was a great singer. Love his music

He was the definition of ICON. Great looks, great talent... A sad loss.
holy shit I just realized what this song is actually about, he's wanting more solid commitment and "faith" isn't like a vague hope but both faithfulness from a lover and faith as in, something real he can put his faith into
😮😮
good call. "this foolish notion" is exactly what faith is. but for some people thats all they have, and for some people it pays off.
faith is dumb, but to make a song, and a hit out of it is great. love this guy.

Неперевершений Джордж Майкл ♥ тепер 2024 і завжди, на диво талановитий музикант і досконалий артист!
This is a timeless classic! I loved this song as a kid.

I am as I do every Christmas.
How can you say that you love George Michael when George Michael was an openly gay man; and your god clearly hates gays?
Just a few:
Leviticus 18:22 ~ You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

I’m impressed
Such a talent, gone too soon. I think about him every Christmas Day.
