I have lived for 7 years in Bay Area.. This guy is speaking truth. Bay Area is only good to live between 21 to 33. If you want to start family, you should get out of Bay Area after you reach 33
Even the environment of bay area isn't good . Drugs , weed , crimes , and other such things would defenitely have a influence over your kids and you obviously won't want that

I studied economics in India and then moved to computer science in USA. I ended up with a 165000$ package which is about 1.3 crores. But at the end of the day living abroad alone and lonely really sucks. I left that, came to India and really enjoying my time here. My suggestion, go abroad to make money -- once you hit your goal, just pack your bags. Don't linger around. It's just a waste of time.
@@ssbishere Studied economics in India. Then worked as a lecturer for an year. 15000 rupees a month in 2013.. nothing was working out. I thought I'll do an MBA in USA. Went for an MBA in USA and in the first semester I found out that unless it's a IVY League MBA, a normal MBA is useless in USA. I enrolled for a Masters in CS after the first semester in MBA. Learnt coding and all that shit and did some pre-requisite courses. In 2017 I landed my first engineering job for 80000$ p.a. I kept climbing the ladder and by 2021 I was at double the pay of my first engineering job. That's the story mate.
@@bardaprasad048153 came back to India bro. That's what I'm saying, don't linger abroad for long. It's not worth it. Finish your studies, make money and come back.
It's not at all, most of the students choose iit because it is the one of the best colleges in India, and the environment there feeds to their knowledge craving, although a 50-60lakh income per year is also enough compared to others, isn't it?
They talk about salary what about taxes huh? It's more than other states. What about medical bills ?? $3500 rent in LA or SFO! Roughly if you making 100k don't expect you'll get all of it .Tax Tax Tax .Plus marijuana smokers every where .
Couple things: $200k base (or 1.5 Cr INR) is a very very rare case. Even a Master's Degree one usually gets as high as maybe $160k - $180k. $200K base straight outta college is for PhDs usually (at Goog), so unless the student has really really REALLY proved his mettle, it's hard to believe that's the package they're actually offered. Also - that $200k is not all cash. It's a mix of base pay + RSUs + initial signing bonus. And this is pre-tax ofc! Also - one point about savings - that IITian grad/or just about any grad with at least $120K can save for up to a year's expenses by living normally(not frugally) because he's only saving for himself and not for a family of four. Even if he's married (with no kids) they can save enough since it's dual income and maybe they're staying in a 1B1B :) I'd revisit the quip about taking 12-15 years to save up for that amount in the Bay Area. And I'm speaking from experience. Companies pay as per cost of living. Salaries in the Bay are inflated for precisely this reason. There are many advantages to living in the Bay Area but if you purely by money points, well there's always gonna be that difference.
@@AnkitaNallana so its not very rare in iit anymore ? and first of all this is base salary , it increases by a lot later in life , even if u see the highest package from harvard its the same as iit . theres a reason why someone company will not give lot of money at the beginning on the first years of job
2.4 Cr is 314k USD. Nope, Goog does not pay that to a new grad. Citadel, Jane Street, Robinhood and other HFT companies do $300k-$320k for new grads but at sheer cost of work life balance.
I would like to put my thoughts. I am living in the Bay area for 5 five years and working in tech. As per my views: 1.) If you are growth oriented and you can enhance your skills, there is no other place in the world for tech professionals like the San Francisco Bay Area. Here, the trend is about stock plans and RSU. In this video, I saw the comparison of base salaries which is very inaccurate. I agree that Bay Area is crazy when it comes to rent but when it comes to all other expenses like food and utilities, there is not a lot of difference. I have lived in multiple states before moving to Bay Area. I would say that 85k in Atlanta would be equal to 130k in Bay Area which is an average salary. But if you are in Bay Area, you have a great chance to upgrade your salary to a way higher amount. I have seen people in their 20's with 300k packages and more. Also, the overall experience of working with the best is a whole different game. 2.) If you are in your mid age (35-50 years) and have kids, Bay Area is tough. Buying a house is even tougher if you are getting started. You can live a satisfactory life in cities like Dallas. It would be surely less stressful. But to all the young people, put all these numbers to rest. Go to the places where big things are happening. That learning is worth a lifetime. You will never regret it.
Singh in USA If you forward to 1.45 in the video, you said that 85k in Atlanta is equal to 450k in Bay Area. It is an insanely wrong comparison. 85k in Atlanta is only worth 120k in Bay Area to be accurate. 15k more in rent, 5k more in food and utilities and 10k more in taxes. Yes, Bay Area is expensive but the figures you are showing in the beginning of your video are skewed by a large number.
I had the same thought!! This comparison is for entry level haha.. 50k dusri jagah pe jyada bhi h to who cares? Manlo tumko google offer deta hai and its 50k less than other offer you got what will you choose? You will choose google. Why? Cause google in 4 years will give 3x of any other company. You can be part of a team which may be revolutionary, getting patent chances are high, chances of giving external seminars are high. And RSUs baby 💰💰 If you are young 250k in bay area compared to any other salary is way way worth boys. My wife had a 150k offer in bay area and 120 k in texas. I never had another thought of cheap texas thingy. Cause she was getting opportunity to work in Visa Apple payment team that’s 10x better than texas company work. Above discussion is for mediocre mentality. Before getting job you should be serious about salaries and money but in young age always choose long term things. Aisa nahi hai ki tumhe salary hi nahi mil rhi h 😂 2 cr mein 20-30 lac ka difference h bas. Bay area is software innovation capital of world.

After living in USA for 15 years, I can tell very confidently that this is misleading. Bay Area wins easily whether single or not. Also, the professor is comparing the lowest of salaries with the highest of expenses. First of all, 99% people don't need a 2BHK.
Chaitanya your example was insightful but felt a bit exaggerated. 2 crore salary would be atleast comparable to 40-50 lakh indian salary as even after 30% taxes, 40% rent, 10% other expense, one can easily save 20-25% of US salary which is great for fresher roles
Similar analogy can be applied to people living in financial district like Toronto and Vancouver v. Those who are living in places like Kamloops and Halifax.

his case is highly unusual, one normally never gets salaries at Ohio in the range of what people get at San Fransisco, and also few things to consider is that although its expensive to live in San Fransisco you are also building your net worth , you can sell of your properties to move to any other state at any point in your life and the value of money will be always more and not the other way around , and also working in bay area for top companies makes you very valuable as companies are always seeking folks with the faang experience and also helps you to negotiate your salary as highest as possible for that state
Big 4 companies are located in many metro cities. Not a reasonable argument to stay in the bay area. The value of money will be more in fast-growing cities like Houston or Phoenix. The Bay area is done and dusted. No room to financially grow there
Also, a lot of companies in the Bay Area provide stock packages. Free money that is not your salary, and with what US Stock Markets have been doing in the last 10 years (and even post COVID lows), significant opportunities for growth. The entire argument that 80K in Georgia is the same as 400K in the Bay Area is simply not true. If you earned 400K, even if you lived a fairly expensive life, where you spent 10K a month on everything (rent, utilities, etc.) the amount of money you save after taxes is higher than the salary you would earn in Georgia before taxes. This doesn't even account for frugal living and taking advantages of tax policies like 401Ks and such. I know people who make close to 120K and can save upto 50K a year living a fairly comfortable life.
@@G4luc Depends on what your financial priorities are. There are a lot of people who want to retire early, and if you're not interested in buying property, if you have a salary of anything above 200K & live smartly & within your means, you can save enough money to comfortably retire by the time you are 40, move out and settle somewhere else. There are many reasons why people like the Bay Area: decent place to live with decent weather almost year round, so many places to go and things to do nearby & very good job market with so many good companies HQd/ operating from here. And plus your argument about the big 4 - the big 4 aren't the only companies that pay good salaries. There are a ton of startups that hire people at good salaries as well, and a lot of them exist in the Bay Area. Financially it may not make sense to live here in the long run, but once you make a decent amount of money, you can move out in the future. The savings with a higher salary are significantly higher in the Bay Area.
@@Jacksparrow-zf9tn Haha. In most cases people live on rent when they are in their first 5-10 years of their career and then buy property. I don't understand the craze with buying property - in a lot of cases, rent is actually the more sensible option.

I agree that this is an important topic to clarify. Many people get carried by converting the salary. But once you factor the taxes, SS costs, and the cost of living, especially in tech hubs of US, the picture and perspective changes completely.
I would like to add a few points from my perspective as some of you have done. 1) This 1.5 Cr package and stuff is not at all fake, you are just comparing it at the surface, take a look at it’s grass-root comparison. 1.5 Cr = 200K$ in Bay Area, which may I tell you is a very nice package for a student. With some carefull planning, you could easily save a lot by your thirties. 2) Some of the comments say that, this high package and stuff is not for average students, NOT AT ALL. All it takes is willingness to put in efforts and you will rock. Do amazing projects in undergrad build an irrefusable profile and sit in the interview. I have seen students who have never worked on a computer get those Mythical packages, take Sundar Pichai, a metallurgy graduate becomes the CEO of google. He was not an exception, he had the willingness to try and put in efforts. 3) I know that not everyone gets that package, but it won’t hurt a fly to try right? JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU WILL DO WONDERS!!!!!

I had commented the same thing and my comment got deleted! Literally no fact checking at all

As per my views:
1.) If you are growth oriented and you can enhance your skills, there is no other place in the world for tech professionals like the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thank you! I mentioned something similar in the end of the video as well 😃
Singh in USA If you forward to 1.45 in the video, you said that 85k in Atlanta is equal to 450k in Bay Area.
What's your profession ?
@@harshilshah8870 hey Harshil, you seem to be very knowledgeable about the bay area PPP.im a web developer, can I add u on LinkedIn?
I had the same thought!! This comparison is for entry level haha.. 50k dusri jagah pe jyada bhi h to who cares?
Manlo tumko google offer deta hai and its 50k less than other offer you got what will you choose?
You will choose google. Why?
Cause google in 4 years will give 3x of any other company.
You can be part of a team which may be revolutionary, getting patent chances are high, chances of giving external seminars are high. And RSUs baby 💰💰
If you are young 250k in bay area compared to any other salary is way way worth boys.

The reality is that people don't see per person purchasing power parity [PPP]. When you calculate salary in terms of PPP you can see what lifestyle you can lead with your salary.
The World Bank is using purchasing power parity conversion factor to correctly represent the PPP exchange rate. As per the WB estimate, 17.12 Indian Rupee is equal to one US Dollar in terms of purchasing power in 2014
Also, India has high PPP so in reality your lifestyle in India will be better
Exactly, someone told the truth.
PPP ki baat toh isko aati hi nhi hai he is bloody illiterate.

After living in USA for 15 years, I can tell very confidently that this is misleading. Bay Area wins easily whether single or not. Also, the professor is comparing the lowest of salaries with the highest of expenses. First of all, 99% people don't need a 2BHK.
I felt same.
What's the usual salary in bay area and how much is the expenses?

Bro I was waiting for this video even before I was born. Thanks thanks alot
Chaitanya your example was insightful but felt a bit exaggerated. 2 crore salary would be atleast comparable to 40-50 lakh indian salary as even after 30% taxes, 40% rent, 10% other expense, one can easily save 20-25% of US salary which is great for fresher roles
In California as a software engineer your salary would be 2 crore , and it is equally to 15 lack in Bangalore, thank you harroon for aware
But you can't have an American Lifestyle.
@@G4luc f*ck that lifestyle if it forces you to stay away from your family
Similar analogy can be applied to people living in financial district like Toronto and Vancouver v. Those who are living in places like Kamloops and Halifax.
The Canadian dollar is lower too, taxes are higher there, and fewer jobs. Canada is good for trade jobs, trucking, businesses but white-collar jobs hmm not worth it
@@G4luc Do you think I made mistake by preferring Canada over US? I recently graduated from Canadian university(25 age) and started software job which pays 70K annually ☹ I am able to save 15 LPA Indian Rupees though 😕
@@immigrationcanada1802 as of now if we will convert with the current exchange rate then it's the US $ 58000, whereas avg starting Salary in the US is 71,000 and in my opinion, you made the right decision as the US is pretty strict in immigration. So I would choose PR and 60 grand rather than stuck in H1B loophole of the US but if I'm a Canadian citizen or PR holder and get an option to move to the states, I would pack my bag and come here the next day as we have so many job opportunities here especially in the IT sector comparing to Canada. But I'm impressed with your saving skills, keep it up, you are proving a point that grass is greener at the other side, it works well for you then keep slaying it, I know few pals from India who are working in Mexico, making and saving more than avg lad here in the states plus Mexican girls love Indians, so that's another perk😉, they hate the idea of coming to the States.
@@G4luc Ah nice 🤗. University fee was less in Canada and I was getting quite a lot of funding. So I selected Canada. I did not need LOAN. So no tensions about that. All 15 LPA goes to my real effective savings😍.
So the conclusion is single life rocks😂😂✌️
Really insightful to choose right job with right pay :) Thank you :)
If someone is single and ready to share the apartment then Bay Area will be the best option for that person.
I am a Canadian PR working as a network engineer n my frnd Toronto is very very expensive, after taking citizenship I will move to Texas.
Texas is the best state
his case is highly unusual, one normally never gets salaries at Ohio in the range of what people get at San Fransisco, and also few things to consider is that although its expensive to live in San Fransisco you are also building your net worth , you can sell of your properties to move to any other state at any point in your life and the value of money will be always more and not the other way around , and also working in bay area for top companies makes you very valuable as companies are always seeking folks with the faang experience and also helps you to negotiate your salary as highest as possible for that state
Big 4 companies are located in many metro cities.
@@KaranBhansali01 if you can earn 150k then stay in a rented apartment save money and buy a house in Washington with Lake view 😂
@@Jacksparrow-zf9tn Haha. In most cases people live on rent when they are in their first 5-10 years of their career and then buy property. I don't understand the craze with buying property - in a lot of cases, rent is actually the more sensible option.
I love your content, really inspiring. I would like to ask what tech you perform in e.g are a web dev etc and if you are a web dev then what tech do you use in web dev like react, angular etc
I am a government teacher in Rajasthan and I live in a small district of Rajasthan. My salary is ₹ 52k per month and Out of this too I save a lot...and I am very happy working for the government of India.
JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU WILL DO WONDERS!!!!!
very informative! puts things into clear perspective :D
No need to study so much for just $150k salary per annum, no offense to anyone but I make that much money every 4 months living in India without any degree
Seriously?
That proves , on single source of income with any great degree cannot make you financially free . So , if you want to get rich ; business or a small side business is the only option.

I think we are all wrong. What is wrong with us? Why can't we get satisfaction living a minimalistic life. Even if you are earning less, you can cut down most of your extravagant expenses. Dude you are given a chance to go to better place so as to make something in life. Money will come, with qualifications you have. Some people struggle all their life just to make a change and some people get opportunities in life yet they are not satisfied. There are some kid out their in a world who is orphan, struggling to make a life out of nothing, just think once about those and then compare it to yours, may be you will get some satisfaction.
These guys are somehow making us think that...
Case1: I have $10 and I take a $10 toy car; I have 0 saving
Case2: I have $1M and I buy a Lamborghini; I have 0 Saving.
Somehow case 1 and case 2 are the same...
Bro... Standard of living bro...
Exactly!! The professor completely neglected the growth potential of SFO compared to Texas. They even considered 15 LPA of Bangalore equivalent to 150k of Bay Area. The guy in Bay Area might be saving 3 times the salary of person in Bangalore. Khud ki Bay Area me job nahi lagi toh pura Bay area hi badnam kar diya.
its all clickbait and he is doing it for the views. Most of his viewers are Indians and dont know the tax situation in California. Any fresher Soft engg job pays you around 100-120k in Bay area. The living expenses and the taxes are super high. Rent is around 2000-2500$/month. then you have food and grocery expenses, cay payments and insurance cost you around 1000-2000$. So al in all monthly cost would be around 4000$. And if cut the taxes your monthly take home salary would be around 7000-8000$. You can hardly save 3000$, which is roughly rs. 2.5L/month.
India me reservation quota ka faida uthao, subsidy me padai karo, foreign jao, settle ho jao waha se India ko gaali do. Simple.
Are kehna kya chahte ho 😂
Simple enough
In this age of increasing remote work possibilities; especially in the realm of IT; one should seriously thing whether one wants to physically live in expensive San Fran Bay area. If you can live in a rural area in the US where real estate is really cheap & work remotely for a google or a microsoft or an Amazon; then why not explore that possibility mate ?
Exactly but getting a remote job is not that easy
Reading this comment Gave me a seizure
they will not pay you a California salary they will pay the salary of the city you live in.
Hmm... thats what most of the people ignore. They r mainly focused on 1.5 crore package but dont even consider the living costs
This video is really confusing in the first the professor talks about how difficult it is to become financially stable in bay area and in the later half you tell us that we can save way more in bay area?
???
It's not how much you earn, it's how much you save (or invest) that makes you rich!
