There is one very important setting (at least in the CL firmware version 5) that can prevent remote control, that is not mentioned in the video. In the SETUP/NETWORK/FOR DEVICE CONTROL page the IP address TYPE must be manually selected to be either DHCP or "Auto IP" (better known as link local). Because if you have a DHCP server on your network and the device you want to control has a DHCP address while your console has an Auto IP address (or vice versa) control will be impossible. The device will still appear in the mountable device list though and Dante audio will work. The reason is, that most remote controllable Dante devices use two IP addresses on their primary Dante port; one for Dante audio itself, and another one for control signals. Any other network device I've ever dealt with will AUTOMATICALLY detect whether there is a DHCP server on the network and obtain an address from that and otherwise default to link local ("Auto IP"). Why Yamaha chose to make this a setting that has to be actively made frankly beats me. On the Tio stagebox this setting is made using the dip switches 5+6 on the rear panel. Same on the Rio V1 stagebox (dip sw. 2+3). The Rio V2 thankfully has a true Automatic IP mode.
Doesn't he demonstrate this in the video? Are you talking about when he configures the ULX receiver and switches the audio and control setting to automatic? Or are you referring to a different setting on the console?
I can see that I was probably not making myself clear enough: I'm talking about a setting in the CL/QL console's setup. The point I was trying to make is, that while Shure devices that are set to automatic IP will obtain a valid IP adress EITHER from a DHCP Server or a find a link local address for themselves (169.254.x.x), you have to tell the console explicitly which of the two you are using; otherwise remote control may not be possible.
@@tillrotter1729 I see. I think he covers this in another video actually. On the console, it’s under Network > device control correct? Then you set the console to automatic and the Shure devices to automatic correct?
Great video! If I use a Dante Speaker system and if my speakers are very far away from the console and that exceeds the limit of Dante RJ45 6e cable length limit of I believe 300Ft, or meters; how can I use that Dante speaker without using any XLR cables? Use a Switch in the middle to reset the wire length limit?!
Yes. Make sure that your switch supports gigabit connection and has its Energy Efficient Ethernet function turned off. The stagebox can be connected to the switch too.
I've managed to get this to work on the CL5 with no problems. I then removed the CL5 from the network, rebooted everything with the same settings and just put the QL5 onto the network instead, and I cannot get it to work. When I reboot with the CL5 on the network I have no problem. I have YET to get this to work with the QL5. What gives!?! Both boards running the 4.02 firmware. I'm just seeing now that there is a 4.04. I guess I need to see if they fixed it.
I've done this setup with a ULXD4-Q and both a CL5 and a QL5 running in redundant dante mode. Gave the ULXD a Yamaha ID per the video but found out that the CL5 doesn't have to have the yamaha ID mode turned on. The QL5 even with the yamaha ID mode hasn't worked yet for me. Also, contrary to literature on the yamaha website (download.yamaha.com/api/asset/file/?language=en&site=countrysite-master.prod.wsys.yamaha.com&asset_id=67996) I can use my router as a DHCP server so my control network is more easily managed and built on the same network as my dante audio network. Again, this has worked fine on the CL5 but everything being equal, does not work on the QL5.
Working in a house where at some point the CL1 lost the ability to see the ULX battery level etc. I'm trying to reconnect it. The device mounts, but when I click the ULX button on the "Wireless" page it doesn't flash the lights on the ULX unit and remains in the same state. Any ideas why this might occur?
Hi Brendan, are you looking for a way to control gain because the RX gain is not working or in addition to the RX gain? If so, you might switch GAIN KNOB FUNCTION to digital gain in the SETUP/USER SETUP/PREFERENCE window to have an additional gain to the RX gain. Otherwise, the "normal" gain should reappear once you patch a console input or a Tio/Rio input to that channel. In any case you probably solved that issue already. 😊 Cheers!
So these mixers are no longer made? I can't seem to find them anywhere for purchase, shame because I was building several Shure ULX systems and this looked perfect, and Shure doesn't say the new TF line is compatible, so I'm going with what I'm comfortable from Midas.
@@Kyosuke2 huh I didn't think B&H, the largest supplier of professional AV equipment wasn't considered professional, but ok, especially since they sell the TF console and Midas consoles that cost $50k.

By doing this, does this create a bridge on the network with control and dante?

Solved: CL1's device control IP address was off from the ULX, once I switched it, they linked up.
If we use 2 mixer console (foh & monitor) can sign both of them?
How do you switch a channel back to normal gain mode? Mine are stuck on RX. gain and I have no control of my gains now.
