If this Grinch ruins Christmas every year, is it a different one from the original? Do they both exist together? What if the new Grinch fight the old changed Grinch as the final boss?
Actually when I was a kid this was one of my favourite games, I played it a couple of months ago and finished 100% and I still liked it, not my favourite but fun and I want to beat it again.
Man, when I was a kid I was never able to even beat the first level. Then I got older and was ONLY able to beat the first level. This game was ridiculous.
Brock McKelvey I couldn't even beat the demo version that came with the Grinch DVD. I hated the demo, just as much as anyone else would hate the full game.
it USED to be Burn it, but that's before Jirard considered that while he may hate a game, doesnt mean that everybody else in the world would, but in this case..... i think this game may have to be sent into the mountains, where we hopefully wont hear from it again...
Somebody once told me Hands off my macaroni Milwaukee pasta bandit found dead "He was picking up the gun, with his finger and his thumb raising up, pointed straight at his forehead."
He enjoys playing games yet he doesn't do it for fame. And I feel the same. Is this what you wanted to see? It wasn't from Jirard but it did come from me.
I actually liked the game. On the Dreamcast that is, apparently the graphics suck because of the PS1 version being the lowest common denominator. The controls weren't that much better, but the game still looked much better. I didn't bother with all the presents, just what was needed to get to the next level, and I bet this game sucks to a completionist, waaaay too many presents. But I still liked the game world, I mean, why would you expect a game to follow the movie or book? Both of those mediums don't really lend to extension very well. The movie really expanded on the general who-lian consumerist society, so the dump makes sense, and the power plant, gotta power up the christmas lights somehow! Wholake, is the oddest of the bunch really and probably the only uneeded level used to pad out the game. I just think it's a bit much to lambast the game because it wasn't a movie play by play, aren't most of those mindless shovelware? This game at least tried to expand upon the subject and make it, you know.. a game? I hate the tie-ins that have bland levels and then you watch a cutscene pieced from the movie itself, is that what people wanted? I don't feel this game deserves the hate it gets, maybe on some platforms yes, but not all of them. It took a challenge on itself and tried to make something more from the movie's linear story. You got to play as the villain for once, and you did villainy things. The core pranks were mildly entertaining, but I'll bet the game would feel empty without anything extra to do. Albeit, they added ~too~ much stuffing with the present requirements. As for the controls, what 3D game at the time actually had good controls, very few. It was such a new frontier, only what, 3-4 years old?
I actually remember rather liking this game as a kid, although I only ever made it maybe halfway through and that was when I didn't have access to a lot of games to choose from. Still, thinking or looking back on it fills me with a bit of nostalgia and makes me want to play it again to see how I'd like it now. I remember enjoying unlocking access to new areas and opportunities by collecting the blueprints, and solving the puzzles of how to accomplish each of the quests. I feel like the kind of surreally bizarre art and game design actually lends itself well to the world of The Grinch, in a weird way. None of this is to say the game might not still be terrible if I picked it up again now, but hey; you never know.
The kids call him teddy, as in teddy bear, not daddy. This may not be a great game, or even a good one, but it's still one of my favourite games from my childhood and will therefore always have a special place in my heart.
I noticed the music also kinda sounds like spyro except the part where when its about to get good but then just replays for no reason ruining the entire track.
Hey Jirard, thank you for the video. As much of a pain this game must've been, it's a great Christmas gift. Thank you. And I hope you have a happy holiday yourself. Keep up the good work!
The Gaming Paladin The Pumpkin King is a pretty decent 2D Action-Platformer but unfortunately it's nothing to write home about. Nothing amazing but it certainly isn't awful either.
Actually he occasionally picks games where they won't take away too much time or have a huge completion task. So in reality, it's less about dedication and more just giving himself a break.
Way to go Jirad, another great video. It so cool to take some game that I could care less about and make a compelling 20+ minute video about it! That's shows your skill as a writer, editor, and over all content creator. Happy Holidays player.
I actually found an ad for this game (I think) in the bonus features of an old DVD copy of the Jim Carrey Movie, it said I could install a demo of this game directly off of the disc. Fortunately, my computer knew better and made sure to have compatibility issues preventing me from playing what I thought would be a fun game.
For the record, I've fallen in love with this intro. It took me a while, but with more times I've seen it, the more I've find it so impressive. My overall favorite oart of it is the ending of it where you see Jirard's reflection in the animated tv screen. *Kisses pinched fingers* Perfection. Please, please, pleeeeeeease don't replace it. Happy Christmahunakwazaka everyone!
I got this game as a present when I was a kid and I used to love it...and hate it. I had a love-hate relationship with this game. I remember it being really hard to complete 100% back then, specially due to the controls. I really liked the atmosphere and gadgets though. The game had a lot of potential but it probably was rushed due to the release of the movie. Nonetheless this game will always have a special place in my nostalgic heart.
Same, but I never got as far as you. Also, despite being perfectly old enough to play to it when it first came out, I didn’t get it until a few years later. Still, pre-adolescent me really cherished this game.
trust me you may have loved a lot of things as a kid but if you actually give everything a watch/play/listen without nostalgia goggles on, oh boy you'll realize how badly you were torturing yourself but didn't know it at the time. This game is actually horrible, not on the level of Superman 64 but close to it, I've played both of those as a kid loved the Grinch game, hate it now, hated Superman 64 as a kid, want all copies of it burned as an adult now.
i salute you for undertaking that endeavor. i never had that game as a kid, but i did have a gameboy color grinch tie-in game that probably came out that same year. i don't remember playing it that much, but i seem to recall mediocre puzzles. i think i lost it at my grandparents house, or at least that's the last time i remember playing it. thank goodness that wasn't the only gameboy color game i got that year.
Still better than Sonic '06. *Vietnam flashbacks* Nothing, NOTHING, is worse than that spawn of Satan. *EDIT: Now do The Cat In The Hat: The Game. So demands your lord and saviour, THE INTERNET.*
Sounds bias being a speedrunner of this game but I see a lot of shining positives to this game for its time I'm probably blinded or not knowledged enough on late cycle PS1 Games, still really enjoyed the video regardless even if I do not fully agree!
When you said in Dodger's vlog that you were completing this game I wanted to give you a pat on the back, because I was one of those kids that played this thing on christmas and hated it, but boy, while I was watching all the BAD memories came back. Fuck giving you a pat on the back, you deserve a hug, a medal, a statue and at least a year's worth of therapy.
The Grinch and Bugs & Taz Time Busters for PS1 were both games I loved when I was very young, and they're close to my heart. It's wild to see they're both made by the same studio (3:00)
Never knew this existed, and I definitely get why. I'm glad to see something that isn't a mainstream recent release. I hope the rest of your holiday season goes far better, Jirard. And as Footofaferrret says, DFTBA! ^.^
I gotta say I don't understand the gripes with the graphics specifically. The art direction is good. Looks just like a Dr Seus book. Tech wise it looks like any PSX platformer. He says it lacks colour which just isn't the case at all. It's almost as colourful as Spyro. The game is still a huge piece of shit but the graphics and art direction are better than many PSX games. IMO it looks way better than Siphon Filter which many people love.
I remember playing this game when it came out, I'd have been 10 years old. I remember thinking it was weird, then getting stuck at a laser protected item in someone's house I think? Found out years later (by complete chance) that you're supposed to burp on the lasers to reveal where they are. I'll never forget this game
he'll feel a lot better on christmas morning, when Projared, PBG, Alex and all of his other friends, scream in horror as they find this game under their tree. trust me, you always feel better, when you make your friends suffer. >;)
Why NoT? His videos are always good. Hell, I can’t think of a single Completionist episode that sucked in any way. It goes without saying that every episode he releases is bound to be a good one in some way.
Your dedication to gamingkind is remarkable. You've played so many bad games, long games, and grindy games, that I wonder how you are still able to keep going.
Just stop before people really question whether or not you are a small child or just an idiot. [Edit] I cringed harder at this comment than I did seeing Gerard painted green.
I like this game. Probably because I played it as a kid. But I also learned some tips which might make it more bearable. Also I like the OST, though I guess it can get repetitive in-game. Pretty sure Max is required at least three times. Unlocking mail rooms, getting an item from the room with the bell pattern, and getting pained like a skunk. But I know of a couple other uses too. Instead of scaring the rats in the dump, you can lead them with Max. And you can keep him on top of egg plants to passively get eggs (well, he might have to be on-screen though).
oh you see it's worse than the Grinch, it's the corporate practice of making a licensed game and getting it out by the holidays, no matter how shitty and out of tune that it is.
I was one of those kids that got it for Christmas one year. I didn't haaaaaate it. But I remember growing extremely frustrated with it not knowing how to make any progress in the game. It just exists in my realm of knowledge of odd games that I played that nobody else I know had lol.
Half way through this review I got a Tylenol ad... I knew this game gave you a headache, but that was too convenient to be algorithm. Congrats on the big sponsor dude!
So this is the point where I say I actually really enjoyed this game when I was a kid with no taste who didn't know any better. No seriously, this was one of my favorite games.
I started out hating this game when I was a kid... But I'll be honest, it kinda grows on you, and well, I remember it with fondness. It's not all that bad, really. At least it's good for passing the time.
Jirard, I know this is coming a couple weeks late, but I think you should play the GBC version of the Grinch if you want a good palette cleanser, or something redeeming for next Christmas. I know that sounds weird, but that version is legitimately a good game. The Game Boy version of the game was developed by Konami along with being published by them like the console and PC versions, and it shows. The game plays like a cross between Pac-Man and the classic Metal Gear games on the MSX, has an art style and presentation FAR more pleasing and memorable, and I even think that Konami reused the engine from Metal Gear Ghost Babel (AKA MGS on the GBC). I honestly think it's a hidden gem for the Game Boy Color, and it was the only version of the game released over in Japan. Sure the game is fairly short and simple, but I think it works far better to make for a better tie-in product for a film and better game in general. Maybe you could do a twofer next Christmas with both Metal Gear Solid and The Grinch on the GBC since both games are fairly short and incredibly similar in core mechanics. Either way, I hope you had a good holiday season despite... _This,_ and hope your new year has been going well so far.
Happy New Year's, Jirard! I hope Christmas was good for you and the whole team! Just watching this now... Oh man. Oh man, I am so sorry... That game looked painful. This was almost Sneak King bad. Actually, which was harder to force yourself to complete--The Grinch or Sneak King? Great video though, even if the game sucks. Here's to 2018 having more games! Can't wait to see what you play next!
This is the worst review for a video game i've ever seen, this game was as good as challenging, why the hell do you criticize the graphics on a ps1 game and the music is not cachy? i could listen to that theme for hours. All the creative puzzles involved in this game are amazing and clever it even has an open world with some kind of grinding on it. Take away the fact that is not completely following the theme of the movie which nobody really cares about and the game was a ps1 masterpiece. This game reminds me to sheep rider hell those games were fun every time you turn on the psx you find something new.
So instead of an episode about Freddy Fazbear Pizzeria simulator AKA FNAF 6 we get the Grinch. I honestly have no idea which is the worse experience. And of course this evil piece of coal was shoved out by Konami, because of course. But still from me to everyone, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy St Lucia Day, Happy Boxing Day, Happy Omisoka, Happy Yule and Saturnalia and of course #FucKonami
I could tell in an instant that those animations for Grinch's movement, and graphics are so similar to Bugs Bunny a Lost in Time that I immediately assumed it was the same developer Behaviour Interactive, and what do you know, that was completely accurate. That's how geeky I have been with games that I could tell the game engine was the same.
I remember both me and my dad really dug into this game when it came out; he beat it at least twice, and I beat it as well, just I had to replay it from scratch dozens of times to finally figure out how to do everything, lol.
The Grinch apparently does terrorize the town according to the Halloween short which takes place before the Grinch stealing Christmas. Not enough of an explanation for the game, but oh well. It's a cool fact. Bonus: It was written by Dr. Seuss.
I had this game as a kid and I actually really enjoyed it. Yes, it was frustrating and yes I didn't complete it because I got lost trying to find a certain blueprint to progress, had no guide at the time and didn't know where to go but I thought it was funny, silly and a remembered experience for me overall. I think you were quite over the top with your review on this one if I'm being honest. I don't think the collection of rotten eggs for some of the gadgets were that big of a deal when you said yourself they were all over that damn place. To each his own, but I couldn't help but feel you were hating on it way more than deserving but I digress.
I had this one back in the day. I remember it being alright, but with some parts being very tedious. For instance, some area where the ground is a minefield and you get sent back to the start after a single mistake. And yeah, it was for Christmas...
Holy moly. I didn't think anyone remembered this game. I hated it so much as a kid I HAD to beat it, just so it wouldn't win. I never could get through it though, so thank you for getting through it for me. I deserves to burn!
If this Grinch ruins Christmas every year, is it a different one from the original? Do they both exist together? What if the new Grinch fight the old changed Grinch as the final boss?
WHICH TIMELINE IS THE REAL ONE?!
The Completionist They cross over for the ultimate battle of heart sizes! GRINCH GENERATIONS!
So he can ruin Christmas in multiple houses.
Extrascript662 No, the old Grinch was redeemed, but this one wasn’t.
John Remmers old grinch would win. Super strength remember?
The three words that best describe this game are as follows, and I quote, "Stink, stank, stunk"!!
PoZitron your a mean game PS Grinch. You really are a shit.
Barry Bend Your noises are really the worst, your coded in a broken state. Your graphics are mediocre. Mr Grinch!
Planet robobot much?
You're a piss poor program with a, glitchy net cooooode!!!
I wouldn't touch that game with a 39 1/2 foot pole.
Dude, SICK cosplay!
ProJared lol
You should do something like it in one of your videos.
Fucking love DnDecember dude
let me be inside you
He'd probably dress-up as Frosty the Snowman or Rudolf or something. I can picture it now. xD
Actually when I was a kid this was one of my favourite games, I played it a couple of months ago and finished 100% and I still liked it, not my favourite but fun and I want to beat it again.
never finished but I enjoyed it
This game is a guilty pleasure of mine, I play it every christmas and I still love it.
Guess I'm the only one that really loves this game. My first sandbox game, amazing soundtrack, and great atmosphere
No, I played it when I was young. I do love the game
I also love this game and grew up playing it (:
Man, when I was a kid I was never able to even beat the first level. Then I got older and was ONLY able to beat the first level. This game was ridiculous.
Brock McKelvey i beat the first couple levels as a kid
Brock McKelvey I couldn't even beat the demo version that came with the Grinch DVD. I hated the demo, just as much as anyone else would hate the full game.
I got through much of the Who Dump as a kid. You need to think outside the box stop being so normie
Brock McKelvey oh shit this was my exact situation! lmao
Brock McKelvey Wow, you suck. I beat this game as a child.
Donate it?! You mean to another person? You MONSTER!
Czah5 the best solution would be to Destroy it!
Czah5
The rating should be recycle it.
I think it used to be "burn it".
it USED to be Burn it, but that's before Jirard considered that while he may hate a game, doesnt mean that everybody else in the world would, but in this case..... i think this game may have to be sent into the mountains, where we hopefully wont hear from it again...
I honestly hate people who donate trash. If you think its worth throwing out, its no good for donation. Simple rule.
Finally, Jirard completes How To Be A Dick: The Videogame.
But no rhymes in this video? What a shame.
Nana-Kyoto I know right? So many opportunities
Somebody once told me
Hands off my macaroni
Milwaukee pasta bandit found dead
"He was picking up the gun, with his finger and his thumb raising up, pointed straight at his forehead."
He enjoys playing games yet he doesn't do it for fame.
And I feel the same.
Is this what you wanted to see? It wasn't from Jirard but it did come from me.
Nana-Kyoto I love your poem. I love your profile pic :3
NC did rhyming for the Live action Grinch, why didn't Jirad did it?
Hes a mean one, Jirard Khalil.
1:01 ALOLA-SHREW!!! *Hurls a Pokeball*

“My name is Cindy Lou Hou.”
“Oh, hi mark.”
*Dies happily*
As bad as this game can be, the sneaking music is amazing!

Z3RO19 have you ever played another ps1 game? 🤔
I believe he also owns the Spice Girls game and Barbies Jungle Adventure... he plays them every day to calm down when he gets stuck in mine craft.
the levels look like unfinished Spyro the Dragon levels.
I noticed the music also kinda sounds like spyro except the part where when its about to get good but then just replays for no reason ruining the entire track.
I played this game so much as a kid......
*I hated it*
HailedSpace 25 Luckily I played something worse
My childhood bad game was LEGO Star Wars II The Original Trilogy DS
Glitches, bugs galore!
Pokejoseph Dark times.
Holy crap the Lego Star Wars DS game was terrible
HailedSpace 25 I loved it as a kid
It’s fucking impossible to beat Jabba’s Palace in free play mode
Hey Jirard, thank you for the video. As much of a pain this game must've been, it's a great Christmas gift. Thank you. And I hope you have a happy holiday yourself. Keep up the good work!
Ya got a touch of the jaundice there
Love when you do weird obscure games like this. Keep up the awesome work, man!
I would like to see you complete Nightmare before Christmas - Oogies Revenge for PS2 or Xbox
A... a Nightmare Before Chrismas... VIDEO GAME????
...I think I need a break from the internet.
Don't despair just yet, it was made by the same team behind Devil May Cry, so it's actually not half-bad.
what about the GBA title?
The Gaming Paladin The Pumpkin King is a pretty decent 2D Action-Platformer but unfortunately it's nothing to write home about. Nothing amazing but it certainly isn't awful either.
You guys are getting really close to 1 million subs!!!! Great work!!!
He played this game just because he could, that's dedication
jdnuni
He played it cause it's gonna be Christmas in a few days
And there aren't many Christmas themed games
That's sacrifice.
Actually he occasionally picks games where they won't take away too much time or have a huge completion task. So in reality, it's less about dedication and more just giving himself a break.
he also opted to play the ps1 version over the less painful dreamcast version so mad respect truly
1:30
You just enabled the ghost of Internet Christmas r34 obsession.
i dont say "what" over many notifications, but this one got me really off guard
Boogs I second this motion, “what?”
WHAT YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED THE GRINCH????????????????
This game frustrated me as a child, so watching you tear it up feels soooo good.
surprised you didn't play the dreamcast version
You know, I never noticed how smooth your videos' editing and how great the sound quality is
Caddicarus actually thinks this game is okay.
Indiana Bones did I ask?
And he's right
Way to go Jirad, another great video.

Exactly why Jirard made the donate it rateing rather than the burn it rating.
I already called cps, you're safe now
Wait, What. This doesn’t make any logical sense. 😅😂🤣
I loved it as a kid and still do to this day.

This game still looks better than the movie coming next year
Eh. The dumpster fire from 2000 already put a bullet through the source material's heart; at least Illumination's version won't hurt it any more.
Natsuuuuuuu
"The grinch is a game... with that in mind..." great ending completionist! Hahaha
I can't believe how many people are defending this game. It sucks.
The Grinch and Bugs & Taz Time Busters for PS1 were both games I loved when I was very young, and they're close to my heart. It's wild to see they're both made by the same studio (3:00)
Complete MegaMan ZX please.
we need this
I think one year ago I mailed one of my copies (I had 2) to him.
Yes please
Barry Bend YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSZXSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
No! No more Megaman or sonic again and again!

XDD
Love the completionist.

Good video, Jirard. Now how about that review of Sonic Forces, eh?
U1GX Yes Please!
you commented 10 mins ago his video came out 14 mins ago you watched 4 mins of his video and you say good vid
We know it'll be a good video even before watching. Also, yes, Sonic Forces review, please!
Why NoT? His videos are always good. Hell, I can’t think of a single Completionist episode that sucked in any way. It goes without saying that every episode he releases is bound to be a good one in some way.
U1GX Sonic Forces Jirard to review his game.
Your dedication to gamingkind is remarkable. You've played so many bad games, long games, and grindy games, that I wonder how you are still able to keep going.
The Grinch. More like: The CRINGE
ddawh plays 03 I think you mean "the scrinch" oh what? that's not a real word you say? well this isn't a real game, how 'bout dat!
patriotails Did I hurt or trigger you in some way?:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(
The GRINGE
The CHRINCH!
This game is just meant to ruin Christmas. Y’know, cause it’s the grinch
oh you see it's worse than the Grinch, it's the corporate practice of making a licensed game and getting it out by the holidays, no matter how shitty and out of tune that it is.
I was one of those kids that got it for Christmas one year. I didn't haaaaaate it. But I remember growing extremely frustrated with it not knowing how to make any progress in the game. It just exists in my realm of knowledge of odd games that I played that nobody else I know had lol.
This game was a gem. I loved it as a kid
Heh...when I think of a "naughty to-do list", something veeeeeeeery different comes to my mind. XP
*Gasp!* It's not the Grinch! It's the crappy Jim Carrey version! (Runs away screaming)
Half way through this review I got a Tylenol ad... I knew this game gave you a headache, but that was too convenient to be algorithm. Congrats on the big sponsor dude!
I remember loving this as a kid - hurts to hear you hate on it so much D:
Merry Christmas, Jirard & Co.
Welcome to Episode 4 of me asking Jirard to complete Yakuza 0.
Please complete Yakuza 0.
I can’t believe you covered this game! I complete this game every Christmas as a personal tradition.
If the plural form of mouse is mice, is the plural of house hice?

I actually got this game on Christmas when it came out. I remember enjoying it, but also being frustrated at the same time.

sleepy cabbiege REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I’ve been seeing you a lot around TH-cam
andy johns I get that alot.
Man, these brings back so many memories. I loved this game as a kid.
I saw the Game Grumps play this once. It was terrible. This game is terrible.
Complete sheep raider
El Inconsecuente my man
Jirard should add a “burn it” rating saved for only the worst of the worst, such as the Grinch game
This is my fav kind of completionist video :) when a game is short, terrible, broken, and he still slogs through it xD
0:44 yes please
I could tell in an instant that those animations for Grinch's movement, and graphics are so similar to Bugs Bunny a Lost in Time that I immediately assumed it was the same developer Behaviour Interactive, and what do you know, that was completely accurate. That's how geeky I have been with games that I could tell the game engine was the same.
I remember both me and my dad really dug into this game when it came out; he beat it at least twice, and I beat it as well, just I had to replay it from scratch dozens of times to finally figure out how to do everything, lol.
hell ye new compiltionist video you're the best man!
Woooh Xmas completionist special!! It's the best Xmas present I didn't even know I wanted!
These graphics are fantastic for the PS1....and Mario does the butt bounce too but you don't bitch about that.
I used to play this game with my dad when I was little and loved this game. Gotta revisit it soon and see if the nostalgia still blinds me.
I liked the video in the moment that i saw Jirard say that he doesn't like the Christmas while dressed and with makeup like the Grinch
I had this one back in the day. I remember it being alright, but with some parts being very tedious. For instance, some area where the ground is a minefield and you get sent back to the start after a single mistake. And yeah, it was for Christmas...
"it's a game."
That's the kindest and most accurate comment The Grinch will ever get.
Holy moly. I didn't think anyone remembered this game. I hated it so much as a kid I HAD to beat it, just so it wouldn't win. I never could get through it though, so thank you for getting through it for me. I deserves to burn!
