Love your Lightning Hopkins lessons! Just got a guitar for my 52nd bday and inspired to learn acoustic especially blues and Lightning Hopkins ....thank you👍👍
I love this. I love you for doing this. I love poor lightnin's aggressive playing on this track, always have. I came home from work with intent on learning this by ear.. then i found this! Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart
As a person who's suddenly avoided getting calluses by using easily bendable 10 strings on electric guitar and suddenly decided to use 12 strings on an acoustic guitar I can surely tell you learning this song has made me a professional fingertip butcher.
Yeah, but that makes you tougher! Your fingertips will harden over time - as long as you keep playing. I took a break from acoustic for a time this summer to focus on electric blues lessons, and now I'm paying for it.
I watch ALL the blues guitars teachers on TH-cam. This is the ONLY guy (including Hawkins, Hatcher, Davids, etc) who sounds like Hopkins. He's got the timing RIGHT. But can he explain it? For example, when EXACTLY does the upper string strum happen during the shuffle? I've been counting it out and I can seem to find it. Is it the 1/16 note before the beat? Anyone?
...or is it just that there is a rest/muting after the strum? I am new to this but I love it. There must be some accomplished player out there who knows this.
Hi, I don’t know if you still monitor this after all this time, but I have a question please: when you’re playing the basic shuffle, you appear to play the 3rd fret of the 6th string? Please can you explain? Thanks again for your fabulous lessons.
that is really awsome playing, i am just beginner dutch player and i love the bleus, where can i find your lessons? i defenitely looking for these tabs,
My You Tube Channel is called Old School Blues Guitar. I am working on a new website and I sell some lessons on Udemy - Traditional Blues Guitar for Beginners (Electric) - working on an acoustic lesson this summer. Greetings to all my subscribers in Holland - hope to visit sometime soon.
Bro all his songs are pretty much the same just different placements you can play this at half speed and just sing the Shotgun words and there ya go. Same with a lot of blues players, John Hooker has maybe 3 different progressions he just plays them back at diff tempos or slaps a capo on, but if you can play Crawling King Snake you can play Sally Mae Weepin willow boogie chillun etc. Bring me my shotgun is a very simple song to play and very slow
It may not be - I had this electronic tuner that had really sensitive controls. I took me a while to realize that it was not set to 440. Sorry about this - I will try to re-do the whole thing when I have time.
Not only a great lesson, but BOSTON Patriots?? That's old school right there. Respect!

Great lesson ... the part at 2:38 about raking the fills with the first finger and no chords is a bit tricky to get ... will work on that.
Thanks for this amazing lesson about an amazing Lightnin' Hopkins performance!
I love the closed captions subtitles-"I LOVE TO LOSE HANNAH." lol
thanks for making a straight up video without any bullshit. i think i finally get how to do his licks
Sounded Very Good.

It takes a while to build up the fingers and the finger tips. No pain, no gain.

Can someone help me better explain how to use my palm to help with the rhythm
Love the lesson, love the shirt... hate the Patriots, but not really I remember pulling for them against the bears... They are just too freaking good!
See in
Many thanks for this lesson! I'll send some loot to the paypal too! Fantastic lesson, great teaching, Cheers!
Thanks!
Is that a Froggy Bottom?
