This is a re-training of a horse, a wild mustang, that is very troubled with objects on the ground. I use a slow deliberate desensitizing process to help him to get comfortable. This video shows how to have effective timing to help this horse to feel more confident with his surroundings.

He trusts you as much as a horse can trust a human. There’s a ton of responsibility in that. He is in good hands and he knows it. Nice work! I have my two mares home with me now and I use a child’s plastic sled to move manure to the pile out back when the lawnmower won’t go in snow or mud. The sled makes some big noise as it slides over various services and this was some concern to them. Now after careful handling of this sled they don’t take any mind to it at all. I slide it right past their feet and they have zero cares. I have found that there is huge utility in doing chores with them present. The dynamics are interesting and engaging. Not engaging in a sense of there’s a bunch activity but in the peace that can be developed with this form of interaction. When I boarded them I was always intrigued by the relationship that developed between the care takers and the horses. Now I am the caretaker and it is incredible the difference in our relationship. It’s something that is missing in most human horse interaction. I would say that every horse owner should endeavour to be as present and engaged in their horse’s day to day as much as is possible.
