    I just recently brought home a 1999 Honda Valkyrie with barely 15k miles on it. It looks new. I love that bike.
    Such a different experience from my 2013 Triumph Bonneville T100.
    Didn’t really need two bikes, but I could not resist that old school Valkyrie; totally analogue and carbureted. So badass.

      Thanks, man. I am. I love riding that thing.
      Get all kinds of compliments on it whenever I take it out.
      Looking forward to taking it on a proper long ride.
      I paid $5,600. Thought it was a deal. It had been sitting for a long time. Spent about $1,700 getting it road ready. Totally worth it. No regrets.
      Cheers

    I have a 14 all dressed out ( I maybe should of bought a Goldwing but whatever) and love it. It's big but it handles VERY well and the bike is VERY quick. 750+lbs bike with a 0-60 of a 600cc sportbike. The bike sat not because of what you said. It was the styling. It was a "love it or hate it" styling. I for one loved it. It was a Go-Bot. It's a keeper. I love mine.

    Have a 2014 in black with Corbin seat. Bought it new in 2015 when they were giving the $3500 rebates on them. Been riding different bikes for over 40 years now and have to say this is the most smooth refined ride I have ever ridden. You don't buy the Valkyrie if you want bags - get the FB6 or Goldwing.

    Craig you are missing the boat. Have 54,000 miles on mine. I'm only 5'6" so a low windshield works for me. Put on a Russell Day long saddle and some of Honda luggage racks. I have taken quite a few trips, the longest being 7,500 miles. It is a great touring bike and I have a blast in the twisties. The bike is just super comfy on the highway and a joy to eat up miles with. You are living a sheltered life if all you think its just a cruiser.

    • @craighanesworth
      @craighanesworth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Kenny. I am not in disagreement with you. However, I also have a Honda Goldwing that has the windshield and a Russell day long and saddlebags and a trunk. If I didn't have the Goldwing I would have definitely done those modifications to my Valkyrie. It is one of the smoothest riding bikes that I have ever been on.

      I to have one ! I bought a black one in Sep. 2014. I put fog lights and leather Saddles bags on it. I have had a least 12 pictures taken by total strangers of it. I park it out side of the Brew Pubs I go to in Santa Cruz, CA.on Saturdays and sit back and watch people walk up, walk around it smiling. They then see me watching ( helmet and leather jacket near by the giveaway) and come over and start asking questions. The biggest common surprise? "It's a Honda?" I truly love this bike that is lacking Nothing. NOTHING ! Handling, comfort,range, acceleration, and styling. But your right. in the over 5 years I've had this bike, I have seen only one other splitting traffic with me. By the way, I'm 65. and do all my commuting (14,000 a year) on my ST1300.

    I owned one for about 6 months in 2019. Bought it used with 900 miles on it. Loved it riding alone. Wasn’t great for my wife on back. So we sold it and bought an Ultra Glide for her to be more comfortable. If I had room in the garage for two motorcycles I would have kept it . I hope to own one again one day.

    I love my 2014 valkyrie. I've only ever seen one other one. I saw it on my way home from work about 6 months ago. It was painted up like an old P-40 Warhawk with the olive drab color and the shark mouth on the front cowls. It even had body panels and rivets painted in. It looked amazing.
    As to why the Valkyrie never took off, it comes down to poor timing and bad marketing. It was Honda's attempt to get younger guys into the aging cruiser market. They were targeting 25 year olds and charging the kind of money only older guys could afford.
    So that's why the younger guys didn't buy it. The older guys didn't buy it because they are stuck in their ways and any cruiser that doesn't look like a Harley made in 1962 is ugly to them. They think it looks like "a buck rogers rocket ship" and lament the fact that it doesn't have a single radiator behind the forks, and doesn't have any "negative space". They have never seen one in person, just in pictures. And for a lot of people, the pictures are hideous. But I have literally never met a person who has seen it in person who thinks it is ugly. They all love it.
    Lastly, Honda fucked around and put the worst god damn seat in existence on it. Seriously.. $18k bike with a seat like a cinder block. I don't know what they were thinking.
    As far as the price for my Valk, I bought mine in March of 2019 from a dealership. The listed price was $7500 and it had 8k miles on it. They wanted about $9k out the door and I told them "The only way I'm buying this bike is if I can put it on my credit card and my credit card has an $8k limit. Make it happen." Sure enough, I got the bike with tax, title, license, out the door for $7,999.99.
    It is my only (running) bike and I use it mostly for commuting to work and around town. But I do ride it a lot. I've put about 12k miles on it in the last year. And fortunately, or unfortunately, my ass has gotten somewhat used to the seat, so longer trips don't bother me as much as they used to. I still would love to get a better seat, but they are too expensive for me right now.
    I did put saddle bags on it from Viking bags. Which made it much more practical. The bags suck by the way. I do NOT recommend Viking bags. At least not the bags I got from them. Absolute garbage. 8 months later and they are falling apart. They were falling apart right out of the box, but now pieces are breaking.
    The only thing I would change about the bike besides the seat is I wish it had a 6th gear. It does perfectly fine without it, but I notice a pretty big drop in fuel economy going from 70mph to 71+mph. literally goes from 44-45mpg down to 39-40mpg.
    That and i wish my bike was the ABS model, which I was told that it was over the phone by the dealership, only to find out after the 280 mile drive to pick it up, that it was not.
    I've never felt the need for a windscreen. I'm 6'3 and I have never noticed the wind knocking me around or causing me any discomfort. I just don't see the point. It just makes the bike look kinda silly to me.
    Lastly, this bike is really not a cruiser. It is more of a muscle bike. At one point (and might still be true) it was the 3rd fastest production cruiser motorcycle in the world. It has the same power to weight ratio and 0-60 time as a Porche 911 GT3.

    I have a red 2014 Valkyrie. It came with stock leather bags, fog lights, windscreen, and just 100 miles. Price tag read 11999. This was around 2017 or '16. The handling and mpg are fantastic. I wanted to upgrade, but why???
    I added hard Corbin bags, Highway pegs, passenger floorboards, battery tender, charging cable for phone and Tour Master 2.0 heated suit as well as phone mount. I want to add a passenger backrest. Despite having a 2018 Sierra Denali, my motorcycle is my main source of transportation including long distance driving. It's a great bike. The only other bike I want is a Rune.

    Just bought this bike. I'm 5'3'' and have been riding a while. I will say that it's a bit high to get leg over and i have to tip toe, or lean to a side to flat foot, but I just finished a 5 hour ride on it and It is amazing. I've ridden GSXR 600 and 1000, ZX14, Honda Fury, Shadow Classic, M109r, Indian Scout and a few Harleys from electra-CVO and this is my favorite of all of them. I don't know how it compares to other sport touring bikes, but I will say that this thing will cruise at 100 like it's no big deal, and still pull harder than any other cruiser/touring from 0-80, rips past 60 like it's nothing. It's been a blast riding this bike and 5 hours on it from TN to GA was the easiest ride I've ever had.

    • @blainejb7
      @blainejb7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to mention, that if you have experience on a heavy bike, this will feel so nimble and easy to turn as long as you can get comfortable with the very light friction zone and clutch. It's a very easy to ride bike for being so heavy and feels SOOOO light on the move and so smooth with that boxer engine. You won't get the rumble of a V-twin at all, but if you are looking for a porsche on two wheels, this is what it feels like. Cannot recommend this bike enough.

      I want an ABS version but they are just too rare. I refuse to ride anything non abs after a near fatal wreck in 2017 as I ride in all weather(hurricane force winds included) only use a car about 10% of the year. The euro cruisers all have abs as on option of not standard and Indian is following suit but the Japanese cruisers still barely offer it at best and it infuriates me to no end. If you ride las much as I do, you WILL run into conditions where it WILL save your ass eventually. Wish there were more abs valkyries out there- I’d have one.

    I just bought a 2014 ABS with 8900 km (5563 miles) on it this week. Of all the bikes that I've had in my 35+ years of riding, this is my favorite. It's funny, after I bought it, I searched online and found only five 2014/2015 for sale on Kijiji in all of Canada. I live in New Brunswick and might be the only owner of one in the whole province :) Reading all the posts here, I gather that having an ABS seems quite rare also. It was a new leftover Valkyrie. Absolutely love it. It was on sale for $8,999.00. They gave me $3,800 on my Hayabusa trade-in. Worth every penny.

    1998 valkyrie lover hear I bought with 38k for a little over four thousand dollars. It's bare bones not even a gas gauge but it's alot ov bike for four grand. I got it so I can two up with my girl . It's yellow and cream with a ton of chrome and gets alot of attention everywhere I go. It was a garage queen well maintained and for a big bike with alot of ground clearance thay handle and corner very well. Iv loved the style since they came out way back then. The only thing I have trouble with is keeping off the throttle with 6 carbs gas mileage is 30 at best. Thanks for the review.

    I'm looking at a 2014 Valkyrie right now to trade up from my starter Shadow Spirit VT750. I'm torn between the Valkyrie and the VTX1800. The Valkyrie is a strange bike but love the way it looks (i am also strange) and you're right about the cost. The Valkyrie I'm looking at now is about $9k but I can find VTXs for only $5 and with not that many more miles! Tough choices. I don't want all the extra stuff that comes with the Goldwing (I already live with cheap throw-over bags when I need them) but I do want a bigger cruiser. Good video! I got a 2014 black ABS with 8000km. Bought it a month ago. I love the bike and its power, but hate, hate, hate the first gear change. I avoid using it if i can. gearing down it'll lock up the rear tire if your not careful and gearing up, its a harsh clunk. There is no way to smoothly, or quickly shift into second. When coming to a stop, i usually stay in second until almost stopped and gear down without letting out on the clutch so im in 1'st when the light goes green. But unfortunately im forced to go from 1st to 2nd, and the clunk. all the rest of the gears and buttery smooth.

    I agree that this a great bike...very smooth,and I love the look. But like you said for the price tag,and basically a naked cruiser it is not worth the cost of almost 20K! Also,I have begun to modify mine,and the parts are not easy to come by,especially a sissy bar with a luggage rack. I think the intent now a days from these manufacturers is to nickel and dime consumers rather than creating a loyal customer base like in the past. Please share any mods you may have on yours,and where you have gone to purchase them. RIDE ON!!

    • @craighanesworth
      @craighanesworth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only mod that I have done is adding a Russell Day Long Seat. I am convinced that motorcycle manufacturers spend no money when it comes to factory seats. I have not found one yet that is good for long distances. For short trips around town I guess the factory seat is doable. I have also purchased some highway pegs (but haven't installed them yet). It seems like if I am going more than 30 miles I need to stretch my legs. Those are the only 2 things that I have done so far. Ride safe!!

    I just bought a 2014 Valkyrie. I like it over all but I have one complaint that does irritate me. It feels like it’s missing a gear maybe two gears. By 60mph you’re in the top gear and revs are climbing. If you get on the highway revs are way up and it’s just feels unnatural. If it had a next gear from 60-85 and an over drive gear to cruse at low revs at 85 plus for flat straight highway travel it would be outstanding. Anyone else experience this? Is there a fix? As it is I just can’t see myself taking a trip on it. Had planned a 150 mile trip this summer but not on this bike, after 60mph revs are up and gas mileage falls off. I’d welcome the thoughts of others on this.

    • @craighanesworth

    Man your video got me researching again, I’m torn between the new Vmax and a Valk. Ugh...

      I love the Valkyrie, but there are little to no aftermarket accessories for the bike. I would just say that if you buy the bike, have it in mind that you will be unable to make any modifications. I am sure the Vmax has a bigger aftermarket which might make it more versatile for you.

    Whoever says that they don't like the bike, and it's ugly....are jealous liars. You bought that bike for the cost of a Sportster. That bike is 10 times more fantastic than a Sportster. Plus, if you want bags...yada yada you can add them.
    I have one of the original Valkyries (which I prefer) I took the bags, and shield off of it (I prefer naked, plus I pull a trailer if I'm going distances)
    There is not a better, more reliable, cooler cruzer in the world.
    I'm not into the tech stuff....electronic this and that...but you have a really nice bike.
    Today you can buy many lesser machines for 18 grand.
    You stold it !

      Some people will just hate on a bike if it's not made by their favorite engine noise generator. Harley riders will literally hate anything that doesnt sound like a Harley. But honestly, anyone that things a bike is great based off the sound.... their opinion doesn't matter anyway.

    Chris it is a great bike but I liked my 98 Valkyrie a lot more because of the look the two tone paint and chrome the newer ones have flat black no chrome and those two ugly radiators ! No offense but I am a classic car guy great paint and chrome and a clean look but the flat black and the two radiators kill it for me! I hope honda brings it back closer to the first generation Valkyrie but since when does honda make something people want? I’m still pissed at honda for dropping the ST1300! THEY GO BY THE BEAT OF A DIFFERENT DRUM!

      No offense taken at all. The bike has a very polarizing look. Had I not gotten a deep discount I don't think I would have considered this bike. I do love the classic Valkyrie.

      Paint and chrome might as well buy a Harley
