Wetsand the clearcoat with a high grit, then buff it all out n it'll look good
@@brandonsantillan6336you can use really high grit sandpaper or a compound that shops sell to make it smooth
The most difficult part is the taping.
@@joseconstante1321 masking tape would be advised so you don't spray your glass by accident
Can I send it down with 400 grit paper then spray the 2K over it and that's it real question LOL
Awesome. Only sanding and clear coat. Fantastic. Dude
I've used 2k clear on several older vehicles. It surely qualifies as good enough. Trick I learned was heavier coats are better than light ones. Looks good from 20ft but most importantly stops the clear coat peel from spreading :)
So my roof is dirty and crusty. How do I clean it the best to look at the clear coat that is left?
So wash my car let it dry use 400 grit paper then use 2K and spray it on there and that's it
The longevity of this finish? I'm guessing 18 months? The problem is that, if not removed completely, the failing clearcoat underneath the newly applied clearcoat exemplifies that old Jewish proverb: If you build your house on sand... 😅
I use the same clear. Best clear coat in a spray can for sure!
Looks great!
After seeing your results, I'm going to try this on my BMW. Glad you said it took 2 cans - I would have only bought 1.
I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing it this way. I used to work in a RV paint and body shop and we did it for customers from time to time. If the paint is in pretty good condition go for it. Your project turned out awesome!👍
Beats a full respray
I actually thought about this in my sleep the other day I’m glad you made a video on this it like tickles my brain
So you just sanded and clear coat... No paint?
Just be careful with that 2K clear. Super dangerous stuff. Technically, you should have an forced air mask, but at a MINIMUM, you should be using that outdoors or in a VERY well ventilated area with a respirator and paint cartridges.
Once I saw the Members Only jacket, I knew it would come out great.

I just came for the comments, lol. But to be fair, he did say it wasn’t the right way and just an experiment. So disclaimer there! 😊
It even made the faded spots look good
Are you repainting and clearing or just clearcoating
Thanks boss! After doing this I should have no problem selling this old civic.
For cars that are renowned for being reliable, they have terrible paint. My civic’s lacquer is peeling on the rear tailgate.
Sanding by hand is crazy but more power to ya lol
Mask the entire car, you wont see overspray on the exposed surface but you can feel it, also surrounding vehicles can get overspray. 400 grit is too coarse, 600 to 800 would be good. Mineral spirits is too harsh, use sprayaway glass cleaner (ammonia free) or alcohol. Might as well clear the headlights, but with final 1000 grit.
The reason people dont do this is that the clear and base a bonded together when sprayed. Doing this means that the weak point is the base. Sure it works and it should last a while, but how long it lasts will be how good the bas coat is that you sprayed it to.
Ive debated doing this because all my vehicles have this problem. But eventually ill just respray the whole thing in a single stage paint with some hardener from tractor supply for $100. Car paint is insanely priced now adays. From the prep to labor to the actual paint cost. Ill go with a tractor paint lol.
Is there a full step by step video?
thank you lewis starting my paint project soon
That’s way better than where it was !
How long did this last? Especially without matching paint.
Aren’t you supposed to avoid the 2K from hitting your skin?
All right you convinced me 2kis the way
Fantastic job bro!
I’m bout to do my whole ‘02 accord like this. Won’t be perfect but it already ain’t perfect sooo
So many DIY guys say it's easy, and then break out the 2k. You need a face shield respirator for something as poisoning as that. That no longer makes it as easy as these vids are saying
Dam that’s real nice I’m gonna have to do that soon
I like single stage, with multiple colors., it's a lot of work, but the paint doesn't peel, 🎉🎉 it's awesome.
That still looks great I'll have try this on my truck roof noone will see it anyways
The clear under the new clear will continue to delaminate or fail but this works for a year or two or more, and it’s cheap, so fuck it lol
If a proper prep and good 2k clear is used, it will not continue to peel. The new clear will provide the proper u.v. protection to prevent further failures.
@@whatugonnaduhey man, any tips? So do I first wash the car, then wet sand it with 800 gritt first, then use 1500 gritt , then tack rag , then 2 coats do clear coat?

You clean with wax and grease remover or rubbing alcohol. Not mineral spirits.
@@outlandishbottle9279mineral spirits is like a baby version of lacquer thinner.
Mineral spirits will leave a residue that will allow for fish eyes to appear
U didn’t use any paint right ? Just a clear coat?
Please....go check out channels with professional auto painters. Most of them have videos of how to do this simple fix properly and affordably at home
@@urbansolis I would watch somebody like Paint Society he’s had some really informative videos on these type of diy paint jobs
Painting over 400 is crazy
This is a cheap fix on a cheap car. Do not do this on a car you care about. Also don't use mineral spirits use wax and grease remover.
It looks good but the dry sanding with such a rough grit is scary, could’ve took too much off
you could go down even to a 160-200 grit for the clear removal, maybe even down to 120 grit. And for home paint jobs, using low pressure air (40-60 psi) you can blow off the car in between coats to help minimize the dust trapped on the surface to cut down on the cut and buff at the end
That’s pretty aggressive, you’d have to come back up to 400 (ideally more like 800) unless you want sand scratches all throughout your clear. The risk of going through the exposed paint would be way too high if all you want to do is just re-clear
By paint do you mean using actual paint or just clear coating it?
Ohhh so he's a painter too niiiiiiice
Did he duplicolor then clear or did he just clear it?
So after you use sand paper ,you clean the area and then just use clear coat?
So you sprayed right on top of the clear coat oxidation?
Great results. I ordered the same 2k clear coat almost a year ago. I have just been debating myself on how to prep the car. Thank you for the video. It gave me the push I needed to jump in. Much respect 🙏 🫡.
Great job
You could put a couplenlayers of base on before the clear because judgingbby how much clear was missing the base had probable started fading too, but thats not bad if someone just wants an improvement and notba perfect paint job, do you know how well its held up?
“I’m gonna teach you to fix your car, this ain’t the correct way just an experiment” wtf
I'm giving him the still made it work seal of approval. 👍 So many cars on the road are much worse condition than this and many auto body shops just spray on eurethane coats and wheel buff it down anyway. 😂
Doesn't mineral spirit leave residue?
It came out super hazy, because the rattle has not got enough preasure and any kind of wind would cause oversprays. Can you show the after cut and polish?
Thank you! I have a 2005 Acura which is in pretty good shape except the clearcoat and I don't want to pour a lot of time or work into it because with 215K miles and at almost 20 years old I don't plan on keeping it much longer so a fix like this is good to make it look good for the rest of its realistic life (the interior has irreversible damage like cracked dash and perforated seats that are tearing between perforations)
Have a 2007 Camry and trust me. My interior was worse than you could imagine happen aftwr what monstrosity you already described. Google Toyota cheap interior issue on 2007-2010 Camry and Lexus if you want to know. The dashboard would melt and stick to your hands. I got it fixed by going to one of those car seat and upholstery shops, they put a faux leather same color as my dashboard and now my dash looks brand new. The upholstery all over the car got changed as well and it looks brand new. Now was thinking to get the car poloshed but wanted to paint clear coat, which the paint shop duped me out of by claiming he will do it all, but did a bad job of polishing ( no wet sanding, just polished portions of the car and then shampooed and slightly waxed)
2k is the real deal and dangerous because of it. Full respirator like in the vid, minimum.
How long does it take before it starts to wear??
Good results!
So brother all You did was re apply clear coat? No paint and it turned out that good? That’s sweet man thank you !! Have a car similar color and condition have you had any issues since you did it? How’s it turn out after buffing?
It’s probably cause the area he sanded wasn’t through the base coat went through just some clear coat
Think u forgot the most important, (wet sanding)
Thx for the advice my truck needs this.
Gonna attempt this
@@adamjlogeren6628 got most of my materials just waiting for the wind to stop, since I only have a car port. I Wana out up some tarps to help with the wind but the wind has been nasty lately
If you do this do yourself a favor and wet sand with high grit wet sandpaper. Like 1 or 2 thousand grit. 400 is a bit harsh.
For painting or window tint...
IT WILL BE WINDY THAT DAY PLUS 2 MORE. SONOVAMFRRRRRRRARGH
All it needs now is a good cut and polish and coating and it would look mint.
How many coats did you put
I just plastidipped my accord back in the day when the roof was bad lol nice video though
You should really be adding plastic at the bottom to at least protect the unmasked areas from overspray, other than that, nothing beats that 2k aerosol clear!
You said primer paint clearcoat. But it looks like you just removed the clearcoat, cleaned it and resprayed it with clearcoat. Is that right or did you remove some steps in your process? Would like to try the same thing!
I would definitely get a plastic car cover for the car, cut out what you’re spraying and tape edges again. Otherwise you risk overspray on your other panels, plastic
how is this turning out long term now?
My oaint chipped down to the netal so i have to fill it after sanding and smooth then do paint process. Any tips for filling 😊
Just did this and you left out the painting part before doing the clear coat. Now it looks like I sanded the shit and then did just clearcoat. It looks terrible.
Went too hard with the sanding or your paint is too far gone. He didn't paint it. Only clear coat.
It’s better than what it was. It’s actually what i was thinking of doing just haven’t had time since ive been lazy. And who cares no one is gonna look at the top part anyways
pretty
Go ahead and buff it lol
I don’t see the paint spray you use for this ?
Didn't the sanding leave scratch marks on the parts where there was almost no clear coat left?
Is this lasting?
good job
Every real body guy is laughing there ass off
You made it happen though. Nice work
I respect it
mmmm 🤔 did you use an oil remover or cleaner after the mineral spirits!! then use a micro cloth.. then use the clear coat???
Good shit Luis! You made me feel confident in doing it.
I jusy got done using some mcguires conpound shit but i can still see the oxi marks so maybe ill do this in a few months. I was worried about doing this wrong and drips and unglossed surfaces as i did with desk top several days ago. Lol
I like to use if it’s not sun faded like that and just little scratches or some overspray or something I just wet sand, clean it up and then clear it
Lol hermano, man this was brave.
Sand it down with 800 grit and water with a block, less scratches to fill for a smoother surface but it’s not a repair that will hold or look great
Finna do this to my whole car
I Didn't understand, did you paint with actually blue paint or just sand and clean it and then just apply the clear coat? Am I right cause i have the same problem in my car so I'd like to fix it myself
That's what I got but I think when he said he painted it he means he sprayed the clear coat
I’m sure that there’s over spray all over the car 😓cover the vehicle
I don’t get it, so you just sanded and then clear coat no paint at all?
That overspray must look horrible
You should be using denatured alcohol to clean not mineral spirits. Mineral spirits is for cleaning after using oil based paints. It will leave a residue behind on the surface when used the way you used it here
How much was the 2k ?
There about 24 bucks on Amazon. It's literally the best clear coat in a spray can.
